I'm still debating on whether it's safe to go to work or not. I'm in DFW texas and we've been largely shut down for almost a week now due to ice, and now we've got 3-4 inches of snow on top of it. Granted, I've driven in worse, but like they say, no job is worth your life.

I got hit with 14 inches of snow and ice between wednesday night and tuesday, it's snowing (lightly) right now and more snow is projected to come through in the next few days. Cars and trucks, even a few city buses, have been getting stuck in the snowdrifts and ice.
Hell, my apartment complex parking lot has been a solid sheet of ice (several inches thick) since tuesday afternoon.

If schools here in Finland were closed for such an amount of snow, I would be one happy panda. No school during summer or winter!

Maybe you "yankees" should be prepared for stuff like this, if it continues to happen. Buy winter tires!

Oh, why people aren't screaming "Global warming!" yet?
I am a Yankee, but I'm in the south now.

In yankeeville, 8 feet of snow in a week MIGHT get you a day off. MAYBE.

1.) WAAAAAAY back in the fifth grade we did not have a snow day despite there being a little over a foot of snow on the ground. My school happens to sit on top of a hill. I don't know about you but snow tires don't really help when a fully-loaded school bus is at the top of a hill, brakes completely locked up and every person in the bus screaming while cars skid off the road to avoid getting hit by this huge yellow Wrecking ball full of children.

2.) too cold to call it global 'warming'

we've had five days off from school so far, and we're getting another storm on Saturday. I've shovelled about 8 times this winter. Massachusetts weather is bad but this is the worst winter I've seen in my life. And that's a fact.

EDIT: according to some places we've had over 50" of snow so far, which is close to as tall as me D:
