That happened to me constantly in Minecraft and Terraria. I would check the clock, finish what I was currently doing, then look...5 hours...

Football Manager (or Championship Manager 2 / 3).

I'm convinced my GCSE results would have been a LOT better if I had never discovered CM2. I had to give up playing when I got a job in order to prevent me getting sacked for non attendance.

There was this game called Urban Terror that I used to play the hell out of back in high school. I'd stay up til 2 a.m. when I had to get up at 6, just because "ooh, I've never tried out THAT gun, wonder how it'll work?"
Also, for some reason, Neverwinter Nights 2. I'm a sucker for anything DnD related (except 4.0... bleh), so NWN2 (especially Mask of the Betrayer) pulled me in like nobody's business.

Civilization, any game in the series really. I put hundreds of hours into Civ 2 back when I was young enough not to have to work for a living.

Sins of a Solar Empire has the same effect. It's technically RTS but the slow pacing gives it a turn-based feel. "Just five more minutes" turns into "it's five in the morning and I have to get up in two hours."

For me it's any game from the Civ series. The third is my favourite of the series and that which I find most addicting.

I just thought I'd see what people consider to be the ultimate "Just one more turn..." game for them. That one where you start it up expecting to just play for a few minutes but it keeps going and going. I suppose this could also apply to "Just one more level" "Just one more quest" etc. However I was thinking of turn based games when I made this.
The bane of my existence would be old school, Heroes of Might and Magic III. Nothing sucks my soul out through my eyeballs faster. I plan to just do one more turn and the next thing I know I've finished an entire scenario and 3 hours are gone. I highly recommend this game to any who have never played it, especially with all the fan love its gotten over the years with Wake of the Gods and such.
Absolutely Heroes 3 would just not let you go!
Thirded.

It was the best of the series, after all.

It happened to me last night. Dead tired at 11:30, I booted up Space Empires V, telling myself I'd only play a few turns, and be in bed by midnight. I pulled myself away from the game at 12:30, and I would have kept on playing if I hadn't been so tired.

Incidentally, Space Empires V is one of the best 4X games I've ever played, although it's a royal pain in the butt to get running on Windows 7 -- and this is coming from a lifelong PC gamer who has a history of getting games running hours after a normal person would have given up and gone off to play something else.

I recently got Age of Wonders: Shadow MAgic off GOG, and it's really addictive!

Civilization IV. Even it's Menu, when you want to quite gives you the option of ''Just... One... More... Turn...''
For me it was originally Civ II, but with the addition of Nimoy in IV, that was a temptation too great. Three more turns and I hear Leonard again? OK I'll play a little more. X-Com and JA2 rank pretty highly in the where did the night go experiences.

I would actually add that one of the reason why I don't get the same addiction with going further with newer games like Total War, compared to Heroes 3 is because of how much longer I have no control. Ending the turn takes longer, loading screens are longer. It all generally serves to slow it down, and keep me from playing for long periods.
I do miss the days of no loading times and instant turn endings.I could end turn 200 times in Heroes 3 in the time it takes Total War to do one. At least in Shogun 2, the only game I own.
