It's an iconic part of gaming. A characters ultimate attack, spelling doom upon all enemies who dared to be in your general vicinity. The attack or weapon that eternally screws over bosses and mooks alike. Which are your favorites of all of them? And which do you think is the most powerful of all? I submit The RYNO, Sephiroth's meteors, Neku's final attack in TWEWY, and Bahamut's Mega Flare as my favorites.

Though FFVII is one of my least favorite games, Clouds final Limit Break where it shows the earth from space then some big giant beam hits the planet right where your enemy is is awesome. My hands down favorite.

The Gauss Rifle from Fallout3 Operation Anchorage DLC. I did it halfway through and pretty much broke the game with that awesomeness!

While it doesn't fit the bill perfectly, the ending of Riven had you push a button that breaks the rift seal, basically sucking an entire planet down a hole.

Cool.

EDIT:

You just reminded me of the Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3, which is also awesome. Eight nukes + super mutant barricade = Mikuru Beam of Awesomeness.

I don't know what move your thinking of but Clouds final limit break is omnislash, which involves no lasers or showing of the planet, maybe your thinking of the Bahamut Zero summon?

Nukes are pretty poor in real Starcraft II other than looking cool against nubs.

Some of the level 6 abilities in Warcraft III were pretty neat. Avatar for the Mountain King, or Bladestorm for the Blademaster.

I submit, basically, any of the Quickenings from Final Fantasy XII. There is basically no limit to what you can do, because every time you use one you have a chance of getting a Mist Charge and thus getting even more attacks, or being able to shuffle and again, get a Mist Charge. You get a ton of those really quickly, and start with a good opening, then you can easily, if you're lucky, rack up a massive chain of nothing but Level Three Quickenings, and do shitloads of damage. And if you can get a Concurrence too, then you can do a world of pain to any enemy. If you master the Quickenings then you can effectively wipe out most of the game's bosses in a very short amount of time, with minimal effort. And the best part is, with six characters in your party, you can do this between four and six times per battle, if you know what you're doing with the Mist Charges, and effectively rain down destruction upon thy foes. And the game is balanced enough that it doesn't normally become a game-breaker, if you're playing normally, but if you put in the effort it can make the game so much easier to handle, it's unreal. One of the best aspects of the FFXII battle system, in my opinion.

Limit Break? How 'bout Giga Drill Break? Or maybe a Giga Drill Maximum?

<youtube=D7C27_lQdQQ>

If it has to be a videogame, I'd have to say Sephiroth's Super Nova attack. Y'know, the one that takes out the entire universe, but somehow never manages to totally kill your party?

Not technically a Limit Break, but I'm gonna have to say shamanised Jean's special move from Breath of Fire II. It kills everything but bosses, no questions asked.

And Ryu's G. Dragon hits the damage cap every time you cast it right--which, if scaled to match other games' damage outputs, still makes it ludicrously powerful for a one-hit attack.

Uh, you just stated exactly what keeps it from being the most powerful.

Then again, it's a summon, IIRC--and summons seem to be largely illusory in nature.

I actually didn't like quickenings myself. I won't deny that they were pretty powerful, and some of them looked rather neat; but I just didn't like them. First, they broke the flow of the game like an object dropped from a ladder in front of a high speed camera. Most of the battle is spent in (more or less) real time battle letting gambits handle most of it, mostly watching statuses, and occasionally giving an order; then a gambit (or enemy gambit) gos up and the game just yells out STOP! IT'S hamer GAMEPLAY FREEZE TIME! It always felt forced to me.

Second, it was just so random in effect. If you use a fresh party you can be guarentied about 3 shots per volley and everything past that was just praying to the mist charge god and jaging on the controller like a mad person. Cascades were even more uncontrollable if that's believable.

Third, they were just never explained in the game. Now I'm not talking about how there was no tutorial or anything (though there wasn't and that bothered me too). But they are just never even mentioned by anyone ever. Most other games usually mention something about 'fighting with rage' or whatever and a character's limits will have some kind of theme that goes along with their fighting style or story or something but there isn't a mention of anything like that in this game. You'd think that since they are charged by 'mist coins' or something that they have something to do with the mist, but that's something that's explored quite a lot in the story and they never mention quickenings. It wouldn't even be so glaring an issue except for some of the effects: two of your characters (TWO!) can literally rip holes in the fabric of reality as parts of their quickenings, and nobody seems to think that it's unusual in the least. (I always knew Penello was the real powerhouse)

Rant over...

ON TOPIC: It may not be overly done or technically a limit break, but I enjoy the nice simplicity of Chie's follow up attack from Persona 4. She just bolts out and kicks an enemy into the background for an insta kill.

Bahumut Fury in Crisis Core it blows up the moon just to shoot a massive energy beam through the remains of it and mess up anything upon the planet you are on.
