I never really thought about how small we were in the universe, seeing this really suprised me. I demand we get a new sun.

P.S. The picture is really big. Top to Bottom people.

New sun? what like bigger? You do realize that the more massive a star is the shorter its life span right? And yes this video is fascinating, puts things into perspective. We are just insignificant specks trying to make as much noise as possible.
Well I was really just joking around with the new sun thing.

So already in the scope of the planet, I am insignificant...

What does that make me in the scope of the universe? >_>

This means that we can destroy the earth without much consequence for the rest of the universe.

Its entirely possible the "Universe" is infinite in size, according to measurements taken of the 'curve' of space (its hard to explain myself, I saw a programme on it).

Therefore, our 'membrane' (read dimension of the sci-fi 'alternate dimension' type) may contain an infinite number of 'Universe's. And thats before we take into account the probable 10/11 other dimensional planes, meaning there may be an infinite number of infinitely large multiverses.

If that dispresses you with the sheer scale of it all, remember that, dispite all that, you exist - the odds of your existance is/was very small, and yet, we exist.

Yeah, I was shocked when I first saw this picture, but it was kind of in a slide-show in my astronomy class.
It made me feel strangely insignificant.

It gets stranger than that. It I remember correctly, if the sun is about the size of a beach ball then the earth would be the size of ping pong ball and it would be one the other side of the room. Pluto would be about a mile away.

No matter how hard I try, I just simply cannot begin to grasp the size of the universe.
It's like quantum mechanics and trying to picture the very small.
It just can't be done and it is awesome.

You can get a new sun, but I'm keeping mine. We have a lot in common, and I'm finally comfortable with all its quirks.

Its gas is terrible, though.

Those pictures were facsinating. It's amazing to think that we are only one tiny fraction of the universe.

Its an impossibility of our human brains to understand the sheer scale of the Universe, nor of any multiverse that may or may not exist beyond that. And quantum mechanics is incredibly insane to our own day-to-day lives.

Basically, we can do the math and draw conclusions, but simply to imagine it is impossible.

Nice! that definitely reminds us of how minuscule we really are
