We don't have to replace our current sun, we could just set up our new sun like a binary star. That would be some consolation for our insignificance. We would need to some way to mitigate the extra radiation and gravitational pull, though...

Everything is better when it's accompanied with a song.

Humans are completley insignificant and arrogant, we evolved over milllions of years and we are still bitches to the force of nature on this planet and some have the audacity to think we can understand the universe?

Well, singular stars are more unusual (even our nearest star is a trinary star system), so lets just keep the one ;)

The surface, the ocean, the ocean floor...

Hell, even inside rocks near the surface. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me too much if we found life inside the crust of Earth too, if we ever manage to work out a way down there.

Mars may have life too, but thats a tuanting mystery at this point. Add to that, its entirely possible their may be life in Juipter (or its moons) and Venus that we are simply unaware of. Mercury seems unlikely as the sheer radiation bombardment suggests life would be impossible their to all but the more basic life. Further out seems to contain too little energy, but who knows?

The big mystery is why we can't hear other intelligent lifeforms in our neighbourhood - are we all alone in this Galaxy? It seems improbable. I suspect its a case of they are so alien, so strange and unimaginably odd (which is fair enough as we only have ourselves as an example of a sentient species to go by) that we don't reckonise their signals, or assume they'll use radio when they'd do something else.

Its possible. Current science suggests that interstellar travel beyond generation ships is impossible, but I call bullshit on that until they come up with a unified theory of everything.

Seeing these things make me wish I was born in a later time period where we can travel through space. Well much better than we can now. Possibly high five an alien, hell yeah.

Ah yes, this is why people look so silly when they get egotistical. Even if they think they'll be remembered 'till the end of time, they look like the speck of a speck in a speck of a speck on a projector.

And yes, we may be a mere projection according to New Scientist:

Awesome link, thanks.

Also if they're getting bigger suns I want a second earth.

It will be flat... religious fundamentalists will live there.... until we destroy them with our mighty science.

Yes there have been many nights where I have actually just sat and gazed upwards at the celestial bodies floating insurmountable distances away, and pondered my place and size in the great scheme of the universe.

I find that picture comparing the sun to VY Canis Majoris to be absolutely terrifying.

This is why I love our own world.

I love the whole world, and all it's craziness!

Hell yeah Battle Toads!

I could be the navigator, or the random guy who dies 15 minutes in. Which ever pays better.
