The Weirdest Anime you have ever seen?

Dotto Koni-chan. The series is rather obscure (if you search for it in youtube you will not find any clips in English).

The show was extremely random, with lots of weird characters and situations; although to be fair, most of the humor came from the dubbing, which in Latin America was really good.

Seikon no Qwaser (well ok that is more WTF than weird). The series is revolve around these people who can manipulate a single element from the periodic table and it some how involve ALOT of breast milk. To make this even more weird (f*** up than it already is) apparently teenage girls can magically make the milk (no they aren't pregnent which would of been sickening). This sound more like some bizare Hentai series but it isn't.

Thinking about it and reading this thread, are any anime really normal? I think the majority of societies outside of Japan would think they were all pretty bizarre. I know this ones been mentioned before but Yakitatte Japan is my personal favorite bizarre anime. I mean, it's about bread baking and the kids bread makes people hallucinate and do all sorts of crazy shit like die and go to heaven and then come back to life or go back in time. And the openings....

So i tried it out and after an episode my reaction was "Why would you do that, Japan?"

After reading your post I went and had a look-see at one of the episodes without actually looking up what it was about.....

Really, Trigun? You, my friend, are severely unerexposed to the wonders of Japanese animation if Trigun is the oddest show you've seen.

Try watching Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. In fact, I wish to change my answer to Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. And while I'm at it, I think I would like to state that Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is now one of my favorite shows.

Hey Escapist!! I have a question I'd love to hear some your answers for;

What is the weirdest anime you all have ever seen. When I mean weird, I mean out of the ordinary and just plane messed up.

Me? Oh is this an easy question...

FLCL. The story is weird, the characters are messed up, and the ending song is just plane weird.

But, I love it. It's amazing and so freakin random. One of my favorite animes of all time.

What about yours escapist? Your weirdest anime?

I never got this, people always say it's so random and just weird but it the entire thing is such a damn obvious metaphor, the oddness of it all lends to it being an, albeit very Japanese take, on the confusion of puberty and how fucked up it is when you're young and have no idea what's going on yet.

Don't get me wrong it's a fantastic anime that I see as being one of my favourites but the randomness definitely belies a message and isn't just weird for being weird's sake.


My choice though? Excel Saga. The anime producers got it in writing from the original manga creator that they had licence to do whatever they wanted with the show. It's 25 episodes of whimsical humour, pop culture references and not a single second has any semblance of continuity or relevance and it's hilarious, in fact there is a special 26th episode that wasn't allowed to be aired on Japanese TV which was the best of them all and just so quintessentially Japanese.

Have not really seen animes beyong the common ones, but I did see one, "Nagaserete Airantou."
Pretty weird yet funny at the same time, only had 26 episodes though.
EDIT: Just remembered my favourite anime of all time,
Bobobo-bo bo-bobo.
That is the main character's name by the way, it gives weird a whole new level, and it even had an english dub!
Show got cancelled though so no more episodes after 76.

I will admit to being underexposed to anime. I haven't even seen ten different anime series'.
