hmm i wanna add my own video but that would strain my fraps too much x)

My Geralt is a madman/berserker type.. Charges at a group without regard for his life. The only thing between an axe and his neck is a quen spell.. :O

yeah i know. not the most tactical of all but heck it was fun xD

I'm loving this game, though I kinda fucked up my talents I think. I filled up ALL of the basic talents to two points each, except for dagger throwing, which is only at one. And I don't even know how Arrow Redirect works. My basic style consists of casting Quen II and rushing into melee, using grapeshot bombs in clusters, and stacking snare traps. I have a real bad habit of collecting snare traps, I think I'm up to about thirty now. Completely cleaned out the traps in the forest during the first act, and the ones in the mine during the second. When spamming melee doesn't work, I start thinking of the other spells and what use they might be, fail twenty times trying out new tricks, and finally succeeding when I go back to my original style.

This game is pretty good, I finished the first with all of the endings. There's stuff I like about the sequel and stuff I miss from the first. I miss being able to flip, so often do I roll towards an enemy and get stabbed because I've forgetton I can't, I miss group style and I miss the semi-realistic inventory (probably the only one), but overall it's very enjoyable.

Just going to throw this out there, the control are much better if you use a 360 controller, yes I know blasphemy, but it just works well.

It is a fantastic game. I'm struggling to decide which one I like best of 1 and 2.

2 had much better (overall) dialogue, sometimes outright hilarious (in a good way).
2 had FANTASTIC environments/atmosphere. Especially Flotsam and its surroundings. 2 also had awe-inspiring design of clothes/armors and visuals in general.
2 had better music.

1 had better story, and in that also a much better and more fulfilling ending.
1 had collectible sex cards :D
1 had better decision-making points, I enjoyed them more at least.

When all is said and done, I was probably more stunned by W2 but thats because of the visuals, for overall enjoyment the story of the first is simply better. That is in no way a bad testemonial for the second Witcher though since W1 has one of the best stories I've played ever. If 1 was a 10, 2 is a 9.5. So...still pretty damn awesome :p

I preordered it on GoG and do not regret it for a second. It is a fantastic game, despite a few flaws and its just so much better when compared to another recent RPG sequel that shall go unnamed.

To me Witcher 2 might be GOTY. The only contender I can think of atm might be Arkham City, we'll see how good it is.

It shall go....unnamed. >.>

That said, Huzzah! for Witcher, CDProject and Andrzej Sapkowski for creating this fascinating universe for us to play in. I hope it wont be long untill I can brawl, armwrestle, throw some dice and laugh of fantastic dwarven dialogue again. I want more :]

Also the Arad sign only does a small blast of wind that only affects one person while in the first one it would effect multiple enemies. Also whats up with not being able to drink potions if your not meditating? That is were I think the game has failed. Its stupid that you have to meditate in order to pull a potion out of your pocket and drink it. All in all so far its a pretty good game.
Once you upgrade Aard it becomes an area affect, which can give you some small breathing room against groups of enemies.

Totally agree with you on the potions thing, how hard is it to drink a potion without going into a meditative trance?!!

I've been playing a bit of it myself. Just a bit though, barely level 8 now. So far...

I've gotten frustrated with the combat system on multiple occasions. 1 enemy is piss easy, 2 enemies are frustrating, 3 are incredibly hard. What am I supposed to do, run away? Once you're at low health there's little to do other than running around like a headless chicken spamming Quen (or whatever that armor spell is) and waiting for Swallow to take effect.
Pretty much against multiple opponents, until you've levelled up you do need to do lots of running away, use Quen (shield) and hack down one enemy before they overcome your shield or keep sniping them with Aard (wind blast) until you stun one and then hit him for an insta-kill.

Better yet, when you come up against a group of three chuck a bomb or two at them! Don't be stingy with your bombs. :)

The blocking mechanic is fucking stupid. I can only block 2 hits (3 with a talent) so if there's more than 1 enemy constantly wailing on me, goodbye defense. Dodging is slow as fuck and prone to free hits, too.
I found dodging to be very effective, but they do sometimes catch you while you're rolling, there's an upgrade in swordsman which makes rolling faster you may like. Also make sure you're double tapping the WASD keys rather than pressing space bar to roll.

I'm also having trouble figuring stuff out. Will I ever need these crafting ingredients I seem to be full of? Are these crafting recipes any good? How exactly am I supposed to engage enemies? How the hell do I counter attacks? WILL SOMEONE REMIND ME HOW TO PLAY THE STUPID DICE GAME?
You probably won't need the crafting ingredients unless you want to rely on traps. Weapons and armour found in-game tend to be as good or better than those you can craft, but if you're good at collecting items you can craft the stuff sooner.

Countering is done by holding down block (remember you can only block if you have vigour points left and haven't spent them all on spells), aim your cursor at the enemy you want to counter. At one point during their attack the dot cursor will change to a sword, that's when you click attack.

I found this only worthwhile once I'd spent time upgrading it but it was then very useful for killing groups of human enemies.

I hate the dice game and didn't bother with it, but it's similar to real life poker, though rubbish by comparison. Your opponent may raise the stakes and you choose to give in or match their bet, left button is give in (a bug sometimes causes the buttons to not show what they mean), right button matches their bet.

Then you roll, just by holding the mouse button down, flicking the dice and letting go.

Compare your hand to the opponents, you want to get pairs of numbers or a run, I'd check the manual for the actual hands you can get as they don't quite match real life poker.

You then click on dice you want to re-roll to improve your hand.

Honestly, it's a shit minigame, I'd not bother with it at all.

Drinking them on the fly isn't how potions work in the books, though.
It was that way in Witcher 1, and some fans were upset by it.

Although, if they wanted to go the canon route, they'd have reduced the number of monsters in the world to about ... 1 monster for every hundred humans you see.

I would have appreciated a longer duration on the potions though or at least they would've paused the potion timer during conversations.

I really have enjoyed TW2 so far, much more so than the first as I found the original's combat system unwieldy and annoying. The story, atmosphere and characters are amazing, the gameplay generally enjoyable and the sound and visuals top notch.

CDProjekt's refusal to include any modern tutorial system when they have a Prologue area that is pretty much built for one is insane, however.

Oh yes.. I know... "Hardcore RPG players don't need that, that's what a manual and the internet is for!". I say to you what I say to all people who say these things in all games.. be they singleplayer or multiplayer.... every time I need to use a resource other than the game itself to find information I need to continue to enjoy the game, is one time to many. I am as hardcore an RPG nerd as you can find. I've played every RPG out there, over the last twenty years.. from tabletop games most people have never heard off, to MUDs, MMOs of all stripes and countless singleplayer RPGs.. and I have never liked being forced to dig through dozens of books and websites to uncover information that should be presented to me by proper tutorials and the writers/developers doing a better job of explaining the game.

TW2 has MANY flaws in this regard.. from a prologue area where people can get into positions where they cannot continue, to its core crafting systems, to its character progression, to its quest log which while a great read can be downright confusing.

Its a good game, I love it, but I hope the developers learn from this one before they do another.

I just finished the game on hard. 8.5/10
The game is ridiculously hard and unfair at the beginning, especially for anyone played witcher 1.
In the first game you were the man, no one could beat you. Even on hard the game was easy. In 2 you can die incredibly easy. And cheap might I say...

Game needs a lot of fixes.
They needed to optimize it a bit more for us with lower specs.

Inventory is badly designed, quest items don't disappear after usage, it a real mess.
Geralt can't carry very much, so you need to think what you need, and you can't guess. It is most likely you will search for a single piece of something in chapter 3...i did...

There are too many unnecessary items in the game.(e.g. lesser and normal mutagens) Junk doesn't have it's own tab so you'll end up carrying it and not knowing unless you select the "all" tab. It can be very heavy.

Targeting is abysmal, you hit someone and then cursor changes to a foe at the back, so you'll end up in the middle of five enemies. (that's what I meant when I said cheap). Of course you can always hold alt...but come on... Combat is basically a kite fest, so you don't really need potions. If they start spamming you you'll die so there is actually no point in swallow. I drank only one swallow during entire game, one moongose a couple wolfs and rooks. That's it, and I was playing on hard.

Mini games are ok. Most difficult task in the game ( for me at least) was finishing arm wrestling competition in chapter 1...omg...

Daggers are just too d..n strong, if you can't win a battle use daggers...Traps are super fun but redundant, only one type of bomb is good, Dancing star. In chapter 3 my bombs disappeared from inventory and quick selection. They didn't reappear when reloaded or created...so I was bomb free for a last few hours. That's some bug...

Most of the bosses are based on "learn a sequence of moves", none of them are really hard they are just annoying...
Don't start the game on insane for the first time...you'll die...many many many times...mostly because you made a mistake, but also because of cheap combat...

Story awesome, characters awesome, dialogue awesome.
All in all could've been awesome, but it's just great. I'm a bit disappointed since I'm a fan but what'ya gonna do...

Cheers

You don't hold alt to lock on. Alt toggles a lock on.
:DDD Didn't actually notice that...thanks...but I wasn't using it much anyway...
Alt is the worst key to use, though ... I used MMB to lock, and it works much better.
Although, I was also annoyed with the default keybindings ... so I moved a bunch of stuff around.

I'm currently favouring instant cast signs 1-5.
Still deciding where I want to put the other keys ... seeing as I don't use the quickselect menu at all (unless I'm actually meditating), I might use ctrl for something more convenient (such as selecting items).

I'm certainly interested in it, but I only really want to play it if I can import my save. Of course, I just tried to play TW1, and remembered why I quit. It's damn boring.

you can import a save but only a save from the very end of the game.

also you dont get all your inventory.

i think only the two equipped swords and your end game armor and a very low percentage of your money. it does affect a few pieces of content tho.
Well, you know, all those moral choices and stuff. Make it a bit more personalised.

It's good. Reminds me of older RPGs. Finally a game that doesn't treat you like a fucking imbecile, which is what gaming seems to be all about today.
