Platnium isn't exactly a small developer so they likely had more than enough cash in the companies bank to able to develop the remaster of the Wii U game for the Switch.Chimpzy said:Oh yes, I had a feeling something like that was going on. Platinum very likely already has most all the necessary kits and tools voor PS4/PC development from previous experience, and I guess ?500,000 should be enough to support a small team's wages for one year, so that seems a plausible amount. Releasing all ports by april seems like they'd have to haul ass tho, so I'm guessing two possible situations.Yoshi178 said:It was badically be funded fully by Nintendo and be forced to stay exclusive, or platinum will have no funding at all and have to handle the remaster distribution entirely themselves. And thats what basically gave Platinum the kickstarter idea.
1. Nintendo funded the Switch port and it's far enough along for april release. The extra Kickstarter funds are needed to start development of the other two ports, which will then be released at a later date.
2. All three ports are actually far enough along for that april release. Nintendo funded the Switch ports while Platinum funded the other two out of their own pocket. Kickstarter is a means to already recoup some of their costs.
the costly part is more than likely making the controls work well without the use of the touch screen and they would also need to rework some sections of the game that required use of the dual screen capability. like when you go in a building and see and move the characters around on the touch screen to affect some big weapon thats only shown happening on the TV screen for example.
the vast majority of the funds will likely be used to help platinum self publish future games and may even be the reason why we haven't heard anything further about Bayonetta 3. maybe Nintendo is no longer funding that and Platinum is? who knows? Maybe Platinum will use the money to un-cancel Scalebound? who knows?
Maybe Nintendo gave Platinum a break not only because of their strong relationship with Platnium but because Nintendo was basically in a win win situation. either they fund the game and make all the money from sales exclusively on their system, not giving it a chance to elsewhere.
or they still make money by letting platinum releasing on other platforms, but not even having to spend a dime in the first placing by not funding the published remaster for platinum?
