Whether motion controls are a gimmick or not, they're a less effective means of control than a traditional controller.

What also put me off Zero from pre-release materials is that it's the second time the series has been rebooted, yet has pretty much the exact same story as Star Fox 64, and Star Fox SNES before that. I mean, Command was dogshit as far as gameplay went, but there was no shortage of plot threads they could have used if they wanted to make another Star Fox game. But nup, rebooted again.

I think Star Fox is an IP where Nintendo simply doesn't know what to do with it. Doesn't help that the series peaked with Star Fox 64. :(

that's fine. motion controls aren't for everyone.

but acting completely prejudice towards them like Johnny did is just ridiculous.

They're not for very many people, it would seem.

Splatoon franchise says otherwise.
Prove it.

Do you have any information on concurrent Splatoon players? Do you have any information on how many of those players like the motion controls in Splatoon vs don't like them but play anyway? The reported sales numbers alone don't back up your point as there's plenty of reasons someone who dislikes motion controls might own a copy.

And once again, another thread derailed in to pointless bickering. I've mentioned my feelings gyro and motion controls before on a thread 3 months ago, so I see no need to repeat myself over something stupid. How about getting the topic back on track. This is about W101, remember?

The Wonderful 101 Remastered Demo and Panel Heading to PAX East 2020

The kickstarter ends March 6th, with a release date of all systems in April.

Here's concept art to brighten the mood.

gimmick
/ˈɡɪmɪk/
noun: gimmick; plural noun: gimmicks
a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade.
the motion controls in games like Star Fox Zero or even Wii Sports are just as much of a gimmick as it was when the gimmick was being able walk around in 3D worlds with the first analogue stick in Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64. they're both control schemes designed to attract attention.

"Gimmick" has nothing to do with how good or bad something is.
You totally skipped over the first part of the definition; "trick". Wii Sports tricked people into thinking they'd be using them in normal games but the controls only really worked [better] when you don't have to move the character.

The analog stick is still used today, it wasn't a gimmick, it was an evolution over the d-pad. VR isn't a gimmick either, it's not fully ready, but when it is, it'll replace controllers.

The franchise with... optional motion controls? Just like I'm suggesting they implement in Star Fox?

I agree with this article from 2017.
https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/08/d...ont-use-motion-controls/#js_discussion-region

If you guys ever play Splatoon, please don't be on my team...
Most people refer to motion controls as stuff like the Wii, Move, and Kinect. KB/M are technically motion controls, so is VR. When people say motion controls sucked/failed/gimmick, it's referring to the aforementioned stuff.
that's funny because Star Fox Zero motion controls is using the Gyro and Dual screen of the Wii U Gamepad just like in Splatoon.

it's not like any of the motion control types you just mentioned at all...

Maybe the gyro just doesn't work for flight controls like it does for aiming or that the motion controls were just poorly executed. Plus, Star Fox didn't give gamers the choice of which controls to use.

you're just clutching at straws now.

What are you talking about? The majority of gamers didn't like motion controls for Star Fox while the majority like the motion controls of Splatoon. Thus, it's literally what I said, either A) the gyro doesn't work for flight controls or B) the controls were poorly executed. Star Fox Zero didn't even get a 70 meta score, which is quite an accomplishment for a AAA game.

Kinda like how the majority of gamers also didn't even buy a Wii U and then suddenly fully fund a Switch port of the TW101 in only 20 minutes

Sounds like they like the idea of the game, just on a better platform(PC/Switch/etc).

I know I had/have no interest in the Wii or Wii U because of the motion control gimmick but I'm continually tempted to pick up a Switch.

oh please the entire 4 years Wii U was around people on internet forums including this one loved to pretend that the Wii U had no games and now these days you literally have people begging for ports of Wii U games.

and FYI you didn't even have to use the touch screen "gimmick" to play the Wonderful 101 on the Wii U. there was thing called a Pro Controller you could play it with.

Yes, the choice people would've wanted for a game of that kind. Or one that we were just talking about. Maybe a series/gameplay style that always had traditional control schemes. Ya know, like Star Fox Zero? Cough

by your logic we should still be using NES type of controllers because "trying new things is bad"

you also have the choice to just not buy it if you don't like it. problem solved.
