I have been playing fallout 3 lately and it got me thinking, how long are we going to be around....a globle event is very likely with the new tech and nukes evryone has and the fact that the world is shit allready is not helping.....it....it scares me to think that every day may be the day we vanish as a race. I.....I don't want it to end this soon. My question is how do you think we will go out and when?

Really, if an apocalypse level event was to happen, I would be the one pressing the big red "DOOMSDAY" button.

EDIT: Misanthropy usually gets you past that fear.

Meh, if anything happens, we have technology on our side.
Turn to the machines! they will protect us.
I know which side I'm joining. The omnissiah can always use more Tech-adepts.

what the fuck did I just say?!!

yes, I don't want the world to end. I want the Terran Empire to exist. and dominate the universe. hehehe. But that will require unification to accomplish.

I predict that the entire race will go bye-bye soon enough. Perhaps not by nuclear war though. There are other ways to mess this planet up. It doesn't really matter to me when or how, as long as it's not right this second. And it's not.

A natural disaster will probably wipe us out. A plague, a super-volcano, or a meteor impact.

When? Some time in the next decade. Before the end of the century, at any rate.

Because.

The world is not dying.

This is a huge amount of human arrogance. The world is not going to die just because we leave, or even if we nuke it into pieces. Life rebuilds itself from the tiniest bacteria after all. As long as even one bacteria survived, within several billion or trillion years life would return, and no matter what the greatest efforts of mankind to destroy it, there will always be life.

We're arrogant, we're stupid, we made too much too fast, and now the current generation are reaping our ancestors' mistakes, and yet we still can't seem to stop making them, or greater ones.

Humans can't destroy the world, only ourselves.

The way we're going with global warming i would give us a century or two. We seem to have science on our side for diseases etc and as disease's evolve so do we- yay.
But for the earth i think we have a couple of million maybe billions of years left before the sun expands and swollows the earth and we'd have to have one mighty meteor that would miss Jupitor to smash earth into tiny little pieces but who knows its kind of a waiting game.

I don't believe in that kind of stuff. Maybe beaucuse I can´t imagine it happening, or maybe beaucuse I don´t want to imagine it happening. At least you can have fun while you live.

Well ironically the more diseases we cure as humans, the more populated the Earth becomes. The world does not need to be any more populated than it currently is really, and every new person contributes to Global Warming. So unless we cut back on childbirth we are pretty much screwed.

I do find it funny that some people think that the human race will never die. Eventually we will all die which is hard to swallow but true.

eh, I dunno, other species like the dinosaurs lasted millions of years more than us... if we last as long as them I'll be happy. We still have a long way to go! I have hopes that we can avoid destroying ourselves... humans are more resourceful creatures than even we realise! Besides, the nuke problem is disappearing quickly... with Russia and America agreeing to dismantle more and more of their bombs, and even other countries responding (Britain, for example, is dismantling one of the 4 Trident nuclear submarines it has), hopefully the nuclear threat will eventually fall to the point that their aren't enough nukes in the world to destroy the whole planet.

The big nuclear war that everyone is fearing is never going to happen. Period. Overpopulation is also not a threat as the world population is levelling out. And global warming... well okay, that could get bad. But humans are very adaptable. Just chill.

The human race will (unfortunately) be fine. Enjoy your life and stop worrying about this kind of stuff.

The world is gonna end in 2012, due to a massive earthquake thing. The trailers told me so.
Seriously though, wouldn't it be funny if the world did end in a similar way to that depicted in these disaster movies? (Just not The Happening, running from the wind would get tiring)

PS witnessing the end of the world would be fricken awesome, you gotta admit

All humans on Earth at least will die one day,but im pretty sure a future in which humans live on other planets will happen WAY sooner then when the sun explodes or something.

The war will happen long after we're dead. I don't really feel like caring about whether or not I'm cremated by 80 million megatons of nuclear fire when I'm busy learning which religions were wrong.

What is with all this "we'll die soon" and so forth? The human race has managed to survive in a somewhat sophisticated state well beyond four thousand years. Why should we suddenly believe that our life time or the life time of people centuries following have anything to concern themselves with? The human race is not doomed, maybe in a million years but suffice to say none of us will be alive to witness the human race's demise.

I just finished reading Spider Robinson and Heinlein's "Variable Star," and I'd have to say that I could see us going out like that. I won't get any more specific because I really think if any of you read the book you'll like it more not knowing how it ends.
