Okay escapists, let's hear your theories on the Universe. Is it infinite or is it finite? If it is finite, what is outside of it? And what about time? When did it start? Does there need to be matter for there to be time? Lets' hear your theories.

Mine is going to sound really weird, but it sort of makes sense.

The universe is both infinite and finite at the same time. My logic behind this is that for something to be infinite, it would mean there is nothing outside of it. And I think that that's exactly what is outside of our Universe, a vast expanse of nothing. Scientists also believe that the Universe is expanding, which suggests that the Universe is in fact finite. But as we all know, anything multiplied by or added to infinity is still infinity. So the Universe, in my mind is a constantly expanding infinite thing that is theoretically. possible to reach the end of. As for time, That's a bit more complex, so I don't have any theories there.

Sorry if my logic seems fumbled. What are your theories then escapists?

I don't believe in time, man made invention.

Thinking of the time it takes for shit to happen destroys some of our theories, such as the big bang, it took a split second for nothing to become everything?, doubtful, if thats the case, it should be called "the POOF, there it was" theory.

"At first there was nothing... and then POOF! THERE IT WAS!"

It's finite, but not as we can understand. If you got an impossibly fast rocket and travelled in a dead straight line through space, you'd end up where you started.

I think that space and energy can exist independant of time, which nicely gets around the whole 'how did the universe start' question- after all, without linear time, things dont need to begin or end. The only problem is that all of our thoughts and the words we use to express those thoughts rely on the existence of time to have any meaning, so a universe without time is one we cannot adequatly describe or express.
Fortunatly we have Stephen Hawking to do all this for us- I'm off to watch Worlds Shiniest Objects...

Well looks like someone won't get many birthday presents.
You sound just like my Mother when I was 7
"I don't believe in Santa Claus, he's not real"
"ha, you don't get any presents then"

Yeah, I've always had a problem with the Big Bang theory. Especially because it's much to similar to "At first there was nothing and then God conjured everything into existence." That causes so much trouble with Religion vs. Science.

I think at the beginning there was nothing. Then, a whole lot longer in time, there was moses who created the theory of god creating the universe. So therefore God came into existance and made the Heavens and the earth by creating the big bang [but from the state of Kansas all this appeared to have happened in 7 days]. And then God was like "Sweeet..." and then he rested even though he had an entire universe to look after, but he knew all so it didn't matter and could do it in his sleep anyways, which just makes one big paradox which will keep you intrested and not even realize I stopped my theorie right here.

The origin and fate of the universe is something the human mind can not possibly comprehend.

The POOF! THERE IT WAS! theory? Sounds like something the Pastafarian's would come up with.

You clearly haven't heard of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.

But yes, it messes with your head, init.

What a bunch of rubbish. I totally lol'd xP. Especially the ending =P.

OT: I don't have any theories on the beginning of the universe, and frankly, it is pointless unless you have an academic perspective. I genuinely believe God kick-started it all, and then just watches it unfold, so to speak.

I have researched a little here, and there, about the beginning and ending of the universe, but my knowledge is limited to my pathetic waste of tissue of a brain.

uh uh! Or it began with a galaxy warlord named Xenu! Who enslaved everyone! Haha!
..
What? It's taken? Oh snap = /.

You just blew my mind with that. Would it mean that the universe is shaped like a sphere? Or a very large circle? And if so, how could you travel in a straight line?

Arrrh... This is why I stay out of things like this.

Why do we care how the Universe started?
It happened....Humans existed....pretty much end of story.
