then apparently the Japanese word for gear is... gear? how does that work out?
No, like how Daikatana just means big sword in Japan but it sounds cool here.

What's the deal with that one Pokemon before the starters?

And it looks like none of the new Pokemon are evolutions of old ones. Sad.

Anybody notice new type combinations?

Hmm, not bad. Most of them look interesting to me. But I have to admit that I neglected pokémon after the 2nd generation. This one might just get me back into it. The ghost and dark types seem nice. ^^

Am I the only one that noticed that there is a line of Pokemon evolution where the Pokemon goes from wielding a 2X4 to a steel bar to two blocks of concrete? And that there are two Pokemon wearing clothes?
Machamp wore pants, Jynx wore clothes (well ish)

Monferno wore clothes along with Infernape and Empoleon,

Hitmonchan wore Boxing gloves, them 2 Pokemon aren't the only ones.

i'm actually not really impressed. Usually all the legendary pkmn look brilliant but this time around....no. just no. i can only pick out maybe 5 or 6 that apeal to me visually and isn't the water type just a mudkip/swampert rip off?

A LOT of them are just recreations of old ones. That one made out of gears is like Magnemite, saw a blue Ho-Oh. Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are pretty obvious.

...Gear? Really? REALLY? I'm sorry pokemon, but you guys need to admit you've run out of ideas. the first two gen of games were great, and they had awesome design. Third had a few decent, fourth was pretty "blech" imo, and this....meh. I really haven't played a pokemon game since third gen (that was ruby and sapphire, right?) and I'm kinda glad I left when I did.

Just took another look at them, slightly more "in-depth"...and there's an ice-cream pokemon. Fuck it, why not.
They are not the English names! they are the Japanese names!

That's its, time to edit my OP
This changes things....how? It's still a pokemon that looks like a gear, and it's named "Gear". It being the Japanese name doesn't make it any less un-imaginative.

Damn, I was about to post this.

I like the fact their focusing so much on Bug and Poison, they have been neglected.

Some look cool weird while some look weird weird and dont even get me started on that Ice Cream pokemon. Im sure I drew a pokemon like that when I was 10.

Im loving Shanderaa, Shirbirudon and Pendoraa look like real beasts and Denchura is deffinatly going in my team. Im even loving some of the more cudderly ones like Chirachiino. I also love fossil pokemon and im guessing Purotooga and Aaken are this sets and they seem like fine editions... yes... quite (smokes Paleontologists pipe).

Lets not kid ourselves, where all going to buy it as its Pokemon and Pokemon rocks the hizzey.

Oh dear, I remember when I used to know all 181 Pokemon, both in Japanese AND English...

...I feel old now XD
Back in the day, I could recite the first 151 pokemon in order from Bulbasaur to Mew.
That has since faded :(

I still maintain that the first 151 are the only Pokemon that should exist

Japanese don't use the word "Gear" so it's new for them ,they wont care.

I'm going to make the same challenge I make to every "herp der newz pokemanz arent all der coolerz as teh old onez!!!11" trolls:

If you hate the art style so much, lets see YOUR Pokemon. Lets see what YOU can do with the franchise. Lets see how much better YOU can do. I dare you.

That said, the new games look intriguing. Truly new game mechanics, all and only new 'mons (which they probably should have done since the gold/silver generation), actual differences between the versions besides the critters to catch... enough to pique some curiosity.

No they are using the English name of what they would call a gear, not hard to work out.

I stopped liking the Pokémon designs after R/S/E, but now I just downright dislike them. Every single one is either a redesign of an old Pokémon or just ugly.

So they made a gear pokemon, named it gear, and are using the word for "gear" in a language the people don't know so they won't "catch on"? You really aren't making a very good case for this :/ Unimaginative name is still unimaginative

Okay, what? Almost all of them are just repeats of old pokemon. I see machop, machoke and machamp there, paras, that coral pokemon, zubat, golbat, hitmonchan and hitmonlee (the two pokemons wearing GIS, what??), basucally all of them are just repeats. Please tell me you see it too.
Definitely. The polar bear ones are basically frosted versions of Teddiursa/Ursarang.

It seems they discovered pokemon fusion.
If they actually had Pokemon fusion a-la Shin Megami Tensei, I'd probably buckle down and buy the game.
