What about the ability to do magic?

You can do literally anything your mind thinks up.

Yeah it's all purpose gap filler, but isn't that the point? Doesn't that make it more powerful than anything, because it is everything?

No, i still think that Aizen Sosuke's (from Bleach) 'total hypnosis' is much more potent.

Even if you know about it, you can never be sure of whats happeneing around you, you could be fighting an ally who also thinks theyre fighting an enemy, he could seem to be a good distance away and really be right behind you.

You just do something? Or did I make you think you did it?

Did I write this sentence? Or did I make it seem like somethings written here?

The effect is also permanent until the you come into contact with the blade that causes it, by which time youre likely to be dead.

Also having a healing factor situation similar to Deadpool's. He is immune to mental influence because his brain is contantly getting fried by his super cancer/healing factor cycle. Sure you would be batshit crazy, but thats not a bad thing.

I don't know, I think the greatest superpower would still have to be mind reading. I meann, if you're a powerful mind reader you can tell whenever anything is ever going to happen.

So mind reader + gun > mind control

You would be invincible for all intensive purposes, because anyone who wanted to arrest or kill you could be mind-controlled to love you instead. And before you mention Magneto's helmet, who says we have to play by X-men rules? Really, the only way you could stop a person like this would be with a cruise missile or nuclear bomb - basically he or she would have to be completely unaware that a threat was even present.
Actually "invisibility + non-detection" is far superior. Try to control the mind of an assassin you can not detect, see, feel or hear.

Assuming there ARE superhumans for you to mind-control.

I'm pretty sure immortality would be the greatest superpower. For obvious reasons. Mind control me all you want, YOU'RE. GOING. TO DIE.
Immortality would suck. [http://www.cracked.com/article_18708_5-reasons-immortality-would-be-worse-than-death.html]
Hey, i'll take my chances. When this planet blows up, i'll journey through the stars looking for new civilizations. And since my perception of time speeds up, it won't even feel like a long time. Win-win.
Why is your idea of immortality connected to "not feeling any pain"? Do you think that sun enveloping the whole planet earth, turning it into a ball of lava, is painless?

EDIT: Because I quoted the wrong guy.

I'm gonna add my vote to the time manipulation thing. Obviously that means when you freeze time or slow it or whatever you can prevent your body from aging... Somehow. I dunno, it's a superpower. Plus, it'd just be awesome.

Mind control is great and all, but it only helps when people don't notice it. Lets assume that, given the limited capacity of any brain, you're going to have a limit on how many individuals you can control, a reasonable guessimate would be something like, 5 people under complete control, or about a hundred people under some kind of suggestive control, maybe you'd just have to establish this link once, drop in the suggestion, then leave them to their thing. Maybe at the apex of your power-trip, you could establish complete dominance over a single city (I assume that what you'd do, otherwise, what else would you use it for other than persuading people to do stuff, you can do that with good oration...)

Now, unlike in the movies, the government, and the army aren't stupid, so once they work out you're some kind of mind controller, rather than sending some dudes to stop you, they'll send their robotic pal, TALON-SWORDS. Mind controlled minions tend to be a lot less effective after they've been shot. Maybe they'll take pity, and use some kind of non-lethal ammunition on them, giving you at least a chance to fight back, but it's more likely they'll cut their losses and just kill everything that moves.

(SWORDS- Your robotic pal, who's fun to be around! [http://www.botjunkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/talon-swords.jpg])

(And if you think you've got that one sussed out, there's stuff like the ULB [http://www.botjunkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/060712c_lg.jpg] and, of course, the MQ-9 Reaper [http://doctorbulldog.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/mq-9_armed.jpg])

Also, if the psuedo-science surrounding mind control is to be believed, a psionic blocking device could easily be created at home with through wire gauze or tin foil.

Best superpower is magentokinesis (control over magnetic fields, and by extension of this, electricity). Mind control is for people who aren't able to bring people to their way of seeing things without it. I don't think a lot of people really recognize the potency of this ability:
-The ability to short-circuit any electronic device.
-The ability to neutralize any generator. (nb, aside from batteries, almost all power sources rely on converting rotational movement of magnets into a electrical field)
-Protection from Energy Weapons (except sonic weapons, but I'd wouldn't classify them as energy weapons, and yes, you can bend EM beams with magnets.)
-Protection from lightning strikes (because, let's face it, if you're going to try and take over the universe, eventually you're going to piss off either Jesus, Zeus, Thor (the God, not the superhero, though they may be the same person? I'm not really into comics... I'll know when I see the movie ^^), or someone with a lightning gun)
-Limited protection against Projectile weapons (depending on the projectile in question, though a powerful enough magnetic field can effect stuff we wouldn't classical believe to be magnetic, such as frogs [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1vyB-O5i6E])
-With enough practice, the ability to reprogram magnetic and solid-state storage devices (so, Hard Disks, Floppy Disks, magnetic tape and USB pens)
-Flight ("It levitates bullet trains from Tokyo to Osaka. It levitates my desk, where I ride the saddle of the world. And it levitates... me!" ... ok, this is elaborated on with Magneto, but it's worth being on the list anyway, 'cause, come on, what sort of superhero/villain can't fly?)
-Limited control over the human mind. (magnetic fields have been proven to have an effect on the human brain)

It's like the best bits of all other superpowers combined! Without any of that magic or technobabble most superpowers need to kick-start them.

Doesn't mean someone cant chain you to the bottom of the ocean and forget you or something similar.
But itd depend on the mind control, can you only do one person, do you need to touch them\is there a range etc.

I still think telekinesis you be awesome. Gah! The fridge didnt close fully and I...Just...Sat...Down

What it true that it's very powerful when you put it that way but what happen if someone created Magneto helmet (the helmet prevent any mind/psychic related thing from entering his mind). Also although it?s unlikely but what happen if that person who you trying to manipulate has huge amount of will power or is able to resist the mind powers in some way or another?

No, the ultimate power is to rewrite the Universal Function.
It's the laws of all physics and interactions, which include how the brain functions.
the thing about rewriting the universal function is that none of us are smart enough to consider or even understand the almost infinite amount of factors that make up the universe and altering any of them in any way may have catastrophic results.
But random entropy is fun!

what the fuck is history manipulation? don't you mean time manipulation?

mind control isn't even close to being the best way of manipulating. how about being able to control atoms? quarks? potential control of tachyons, granting you the powers of fate? and you think that mind manipulation will dominate?

try harder.

EDIT: also, by the time we are able to attain immortality, we would be highly modular beings. since you are by definition immortal, you could make heavy changes to your body to create the best circumstances for living in the distant future.
Time manipulation seems to be more of controlling the rate at which time moves around you while your own rate of passing through time remains unchanged, manipulation of space so that you don't suffocate and actually being able to move objects is an added bonus. What I mean is if you were to say stop time, you've reduced the rate at which time moves around you to zero X units/X units or X units squared. However, you will still be able to move around at the same pace as before. Or let's go the opposite route and speed up time, everything around you is moving at a faster pace because you've increased the rate at which time flows around you while your passage through time is still the same as before.

The problem with time manipulation is that if you stop time or slow down time too often, you'll die before a lot of people you know because you couldn't change the rate at which you yourself pass through time. So while you stopped time for an hour to do something, when time starts again, you'll have aged one extra hour compared to everyone else.

History manipulation is taking what's already happened and changing it to your desire.
You would also freeze to death as I assume all particles would stop and as physics has taught us, particles which are not moving are effectively at absolute zero, which would kill you! Huzzah for time manipulation!

Note: I think thats correct but I could very well be wrong.
