You have to remember the Covenant (I'm sorry, but I can't remember exactly which), in which God promised that whatever the church decides on Earth, he will hold true in Heaven. Which means that if the Church says that there is a Hell, then Hell exists.
"And Peter you are the rock on which i shall build my church, i gift to you the keys of heaven, and anything you bind in this kingdom shall be bound in mine and what ever is loosed in this kingdom shall be loosed in mine"

Coincidentaly im currently reading Dantes inferno.

But seriously there has been a hell in pretty much every religion out there, there are different interpretations of it but im sure it exsists and if you believe in there being a heavent then there must be a hell.

As one cannont exsist without the other.

And whats with all the hate on religion to be honest that bandwagon is over crowded with peole who dont have a reason to be on it,bloody da vinci code.

I don't think a movie inspired a generation of hate towards religion. I think it's just that the world is moving towards a more logical/reason-based generation. Then again, we've been moving towards that for quite a while now, so that's nothing too new.

"Well the two links were more intended to give an initial overview of the concepts and kind of show the concept as it has evolved. Granted it is hard to find reliable sources of information on the internet, so I am also working at compiling a short list of books that may help people understand the evolution of the concept of hell, like other concepts, without requiring people to learn Hebrew or Greek."

In that case, it was a good method of giving a background information towards the subject. However, most people are going to come into this discussion with preconceived notions towards the subject of religion, and not really care much about anything else. So unless the source is groundbreaking, I doubt many people are going to spend the time to actually read them, even if they could read Hebrew or Greek.

Your faith (or lack of) is your own.

Respect the Gods and Bhuddas, but do not rely on them.

I don't really have an opinion on heaven/hell/the afterlife, because I don't see any reason to even contemplate it. Whatever happens, happens. Whether or not there is an afterlife, One way or another, I will die. If there is an afterlife, I will sit and live my afterlife. If not, I'm dead, so it doesn't matter.

Honestly, if I had to choose between living an afterlife an not living one, I would choose not to have one. Perpetual existence would probably get boring after a while.

Movies have caused mass hate before. But to be honest i know very few people who have a good excuse for hateing religion, ist just down to lazyness even though transport has gotten better.
