I used to go to a pool that solved the problem entirely. They had kids' changing rooms and adults' changing rooms.

its the human body GET OVER IT! before clothes were invented what did you think we wore? a leaf that magically covered our genitalia? i dont understand whats with this "oh no a penis/vagina/ass! its a vile and disgusting and you should be ashamed for what GOD GAVE YOU!" its not gonna scar them for life like you think. and i hate to say it,dont you think your being a TAD HYPOCRITICAL by the fact that YOUR changing infront of children yourself?

then there is the difference between a garden and a changing room...a garden is out in the open, and a changing room is a ROOM for changing in...

im hate to say it but its people like you that shield our children too much and make them unprepared to face the real world. you cant shield them forever! better show them what things are now rather then later. instead of saying "oh...um...jimmy thats...umm...called a...umm...*continues to act like a dolt*". i understand shielding them from alot of things like drugs, swearing, blood, guts, rape, ect. but the human body? its better to teach children to NOT be ashamed on how you look. why do you think so many people are worried about their looks and nothing else? we need to get out of this rut and evolve here people...im sorry but thats just how i feel...

Breasts and penises are filthy lies and young ones are so impressionable. What if they get it into their heads that everyone has genitals.

What if one saw a bum and realised everybody poops.

OH LAWD THE HUMANITY!

I think a lot of you guys are underestimating what children know and think about if you really think that a kid can see someone naked and not think of anything sexual.

If nothing else, they can clearly feel discomfort about it. I defy you to tell me that you haven't seen or known a little boy not wanting to follow his mom to the ladies' room.

This is so crazy that I barely know what to say. Children should be protected from knowing what human bodies look like?

People walking around naked in a completely sensible place with absolutely no sexual overtones are not a threat to children. This is insane.

This is the most remarkably Puritanical and illogical complaint I've seen in a very long time, possibly ever. And I'm from a very conservative area, growing up alongside a lot of very religious, very Puritanical folks.

I truly, truly hope this is just trolling.
There's this lovely thing called common decency. I don't know about you but when I'm in a changing room I dont very much enjoy seeing people's old sweaty nutsacks. I'm a bit confused as to why asking someone to put a towel on seems like such sexually repressive religious zealotry to you.
It's not about sexual repression, that's the entire point - it's not a sexual situation. It's just a perfectly normal, utilitarian nakedness. People walking around naked in a changing room is not a violation of "common decency". That's absurd.

And the "oh god I have to see naked old people" thing? Grow the fuck up.

Maybe if you had seen more naked old people in changing rooms growing up you wouldn't be so traumatized by something so profoundly stupid.

Edit: I did laugh at the cartoon though :D

Past diaper age, the only objections I've heard is from feeling like they're still in diapers, because they (often mistakenly) think they're old enough to safely wait outside the restroom.

I went swimming yesterday and in the changing room there were loads of blokes walking around naked. It doesn't bother me that they are doing that but, as it was a Sunday, there were a number of children in there too, around 7 years old or so, and the blokes that were walking around naked had nothing to do with the kids (E.G wasn't a parent). Someone also said that there was a woman in the ladies changing room walking around naked while a young lad was in there.

People shouldn't be walking around naked when there are young children around, even if it's a changing room. If i walked around my garden naked and my neighbour's young children saw me i would probably be arrested for it. What do you think?
How DARE people be naked in a changing room. They should all be publicly whipped and then shot!

Seriously, what?

I get what most people are trying to say in this thread about how the human body shouldn't be seen as disgusting, and I respect that. But what about the people who know that it shouldn't be disgusting, but just prefer to not see a naked body. You can't tell me that's religious zealotry, that's just personal preference.
But in this situation, you know the risks of going into a changing room.
That's why I never do and I just wear my swim shorts under my shorts and just take the shorts off next to the pool.
Because it's easier not having to deal with the changing room.

Fuck that idea, I saw plenty of nude people when I was young, it didn't traumatize me.

At my local aquatics centre we don't actually have the old style changing rooms we have cubicles and lockers, so its pretty much impossible to see anyone naked unless they are in the showers. I personally would not be comfortable with going around the chaing rooms and showers naked, I guess others are.

It could be as a result of the old school culture that surrounded P.E in the UK. It was pretty much mandatory to shower after P.E. This is no longer allowed though because of concerns about child safety. My point is though, many of the older generation probably don't bat an eyelid to showering naked in public since they did it in school. It would seem to fit anyway since most people you see naked around showers/changing rooms are either quite old or very very young.

As to whether it effects children, I highly doubt it. Have you ever been around young kids? Getting them to keep their clothes on is a job in itself. I really don't think kids care about nudity, we only really start to care about keeping ourselves covered when we start to reach puberty, when we become more aware of our bodies.

If kids don't care about themselves being nude then I doubt they care about anyone else either. I personally remember that being the case when I was boy. Often when swimming you would see people naked in the changing rooms and it never bothered me. To me it does not seem to be that big of an issue. Its a changing room, most people will probably keep themselves covered but there is the chance there will be people naked so deal with it.

I am not a fan of the nuts of others so I stay out of the changing rooms and use a stall instead. I'm sure that children are smart enough to learn that if they don't like nuts either, they can find a place more private to change. It's really up to them, I think.

This, keep it to yourself if that is what the sign says. You are free otherwise.

And OP: You would be arrested for being nude in your own garden? WTF?! and where the hell do you live? If I wanted to have an orgy in my garden, I'm sure there would be no grounds for arrest, even if all the children in the suburb saw. Your garden, you can walk around naked, why is the child looking over your wall?
But what if it's the childs wall?
First: Children don't own property. Second, I admit, badly phrased: why are they looking into your garden? And it is still your garden, not a public space, you can go nude or smoke a pack a minute in there if you like. It is your property and so long as you don't illegally burn there then they shouldn't be able to do jack to you.

Captcha: klatu berada nikto... WTF?!

I have not seen women doing that a lot at health clubs I have been. At public pools people are often taking their kids and if they have small boys who are not old enough to go alone they bring them with them into the women's locker room, which is only understandable. I don't see way you would think you would be arrested, that is a normal place to change, wash, etc.

I think kids DO care because they are curious. You just need to teach them to be respectful and that the reason some one is naked is that it is their changing area and that is an appropriate place. That is how my older brother handled it when he took me to the pool as a kid.

Years ago here in the states I don't think there were any family rooms. You just had one locker room or the other.
If I had a son or little brother too young to go on his own I would take him with me, just like my older brother took with him when mom was not available. People understood and anyone who might have been uncomfortable would turn a face the other way.

I think it's important that we do not use grown up logic when thinking for kids.

It's not like kids perceive the world the exact same as us. If anything they ignore / do not see / do not care about it since they are psyched that they get to go .

Besides, I turned out allright and if I learned anything from the way I have been raised:

"Everyone has the bloody same schematics for their gender. Now stop whining and get changed in the boys locker room before I slap you into those clothes myself." - Gym Teacher 3rd grade.

So we should not fuss about trivial things like this.
Now should the adults flaunt around with it and show 'weird' behavior around kids, that is an entirely different story.

Don't be so ridiculous. They're in a changing room, its not going to warp them.

Equally, kids don't give a crap about nudity and probably didn't notice that anyone was naked (or rather didn't see any significance in that. So long as no one was being indecent, I fail to see the problem.

If by "walking around" you mean changing and /or showering in their own locker room, that is what have the right to do there I cannot understand you. And a of kids that age are not ready to be sent on their own into a public locker room. I was not permitted to go on my own until I was 8, perhaps 9, so until then if I went to a public pool without my mom my older brother would take me into the male locker room with him. I think that's reasonable. Occasionally there would be patrons there when we came through, and those who were perhaps uncomfortable being nude with a girl present would turn and face toward the wall, which is what you could do if it happens again.
