There's this lovely thing called common decency. I don't know about you but when I'm in a changing room I dont very much enjoy seeing people's old sweaty nutsacks. I'm a bit confused as to why asking someone to put a towel on seems like such sexually repressive religious zealotry to you.

Now. Even though the image of an old man drying his jingles with a hairdryer is funny, I hardly believe you see that every day. If ever actually. But if someone is perfectly comfortable being naked, let them be. Like in that picture. If the old guys have healthy self-esteem and don't mind chatting away naked, why do you need to get bothered?

I understand you don't enjoy seeing "people's old sweaty nutsacks", but who asked you to look? They hang below your eye level after all. Changing rooms are for getting naked! I have hard time believing that men just walk up to you, lift their leg on the bench and start talking to you naked. If they do, then you have something to complain about. And that complain should be directed to the person who did it, not all people on earth.

If there weren't changing rooms I don't think I'd go to public swimming pools. I personally wouldn't enjoy wearing my swimsuit under my clothes just because someone is terrified of seeing my boobs.

Kids think about nudity in an entirely different way than adults. Adults think of it as 100% sexual, and as such freak out when them or their children ever witness it.

Kids on the other hand? Not so much. Nude people get the same reaction from kids as a dead frog does. "Wow, that's kinda gross. Ooh, what's over there?" They don't care.

Besides, you want to talk traumatising? Try being a gay child in a female changing room. So much horror...

OT: I haven't used a changing room in a long time, and I was a young teenager in a room with other young teenage males that were more sexually mature than me (psychologically, not physically. Stay with me) so I always used my towel to get changed (because if you got naked in a room full of immature boys that know what sex is, you are asking for trouble). But whenever I see a naked person I look away, or up, or stare at my feet. Not because I find it gross or disgusting or anything, I actually have two legitimate reasons. The first is that I'm pretty sure the rules are that you can get naked, but you don't make people look and you don't look back. Secondly, I'm too polite, and unless someone gives my permission to look, I won't (and even if they do, unless I actually need to involve myself in their nakedness[footnote]Maybe they accidentally got a fishing hook stuck in their penis, or a crab has clamped down on their boobs or something.[/footnote] I still wouldn't look).

I am 100% in agreement with this (sarcastic) post. The idea that our bodies are inherently disgusting or morally filthy is ridiculous, and is largely only an American viewpoint.

It's funny because in the UK, most people just wash in their swim suits if there aren't private showers but not the old people... the old people seem to want everybody to see everything.

I was taken into a locker room at a Community Pool when I was a kid and there were a bunch of 60+ year old naked ladies after their water aerobics classes, drying off and getting dressed. Didn't hurt me in any way,.. or maybe that's why I don't like raisins? I don't know.

Point is: It's just some naked people getting dressed in a room that's there for that very purpose. It's there for people to strip down after exercise classes/sports, shower, dry off, and dress in their casual clothes. It isn't a 'sex' room, for goodness sake.

I'm an artist and I believe the human body is beautiful. Even the not-so-perfect ones. Nothing wrong with nudity. I think it's probably more damaging psychologically to make kids ashamed of their bodies.
Heck, me and Spirit are hardly ever dressed around the house unless it's cold. Saves money on the AC in the summer. ;]

I went swimming yesterday and in the changing room there were loads of blokes walking around naked. It doesn't bother me that they are doing that but, as it was a Sunday, there were a number of children in there too, around 7 years old or so, and the blokes that were walking around naked had nothing to do with the kids (E.G wasn't a parent). Someone also said that there was a woman in the ladies changing room walking around naked while a young lad was in there.

People shouldn't be walking around naked when there are young children around, even if it's a changing room. If i walked around my garden naked and my neighbour's young children saw me i would probably be arrested for it. What do you think?

It's not a big deal. It's a locker room. People get naked in them. Children should be taught that there is nothing unnatural about the human body; not that it's a source of shame.

If it's innocent, same gender, changing-room nudity, I think being concerned "for the children" takes prudery to new heights; and I would feel for any children that you have being brought up in an environment that nudity is somehow a shameful state.

I'm honestly more concerned about explaining violence and greed to children. I think explaining why America went to war in Iraq is far harder to explain that why a man or woman is nude in a changing room.

Nudity is just nudity. People's body hangups are the problem; not peoples bodies.

I think there should be a separate changing rooms, one for those who want to be nude and the other for those who don't.
