I like jrpgs. Each one is akin to opening a novel and enjoying myself for hours on end. I enjoy the different worlds, the witty characters, the usually beautiful art, and the many different ways to fight in a battle. I especially like it when some form of strategy is needed, but for some reason I do not have the patience to sit through a tactics rpg.
I am currently playing Shining Force EXA. It's a nice change of pace for the main characters to be protecting and building on a castle through the entire game opposed to wandering the world aimlessly looking for the next town or boss to battle. Even the voice talents are pleasant. So far, this is a well-made game. (It is also hack&slash instead of turn-based.)
Honestly, I came to this forum well over a year ago in hopes of coming across other people who played rpgs and enjoyed talking about them. I don't understand this hatred. But then again, this recent era of humanity is absolutely filled with hatred. No one can ever be satisfied anymore. They are given things they like, even things they like that are improved upon, and complain about nonsensical garbage in a vague aim to find some reason to hate it. Not all games are perfect, but I hope people will eventually get their heads out the mud and learn to enjoy themselves again. Go out and buy a game you think you will enjoy, and ignore the mass of infidels that tell you how much it sucks without any valid reason behind their negative bickering. The only reason not to buy a game, and feel free to quote me on this, is if the game has so many coding errors that it is impossible to play. Those games that the developer pushed out the door without testing everything and expects to fix things months later when enough people complain.
Pardon, I was ranting there.

As for me, I find quite a few decent series still. Right now I'm on a Kingdom Hearts binge, but I've easily come to the point that the series isn't for everyone. Xenogears and the Xenosaga series have great story, and 1 and 3 have decent game play, albeit a bit slow. The World Ends with You is a great jRPG, fast paced, and good characters if you can get through the first quarter of the game(Which I know can be a bit much for some). Final Fantasy Tactics(The PS one and PSP) has great character involved story, and is an sRPG as well, for people of that crowd.
No argument here. There's some jRPGs that are -great-. And there are some that are terrible. And some in between. And it's exactly the same with wRPGs. And they all have the same basic flaws.
wRPGs can really suck... don't pick up Shadow Madness. Ever.
I'm sorry, but it feels oddly satisfying that I wasn't the only person in this universe to play the mess known as Shadow Madness. That game was terrible. I have it on my shelf to remind me that there are worse games in existence, and to never make that mistake again.
