Also, why isn't there outrage about the Netlfix writer that took the one guy's "We Like Dave" sign and yelled out "He's got a weapon!!!". That can be very dangerous in a crowded area like that, a cop nearby might have heard that and got trigger happy. Sure, it's a low probability scenario but it's a scenario that exits because of that and he knew what he was doing by yelling that out. It's very much the same thing that white lady did in Central Park with the black bird watcher guy, she threatened to call the cops because she knew an incident with a cop and black guy could potentially go south.

Aka, what a "boycott" is. Definitionaly
Nope, not buying a say Kindle from Amazon and asking Amazon to remove the Kindle are 2 different things. If enough people don't want a product or service for any combination of reasons (just don't like the color or for some political reason), then the product doesn't have a big enough audience and will no longer be sold. That's the natural flow of how things become no longer available.

People who were seemingly all in supporting the push against Chappelle now trying to frame things as criticism or "Why are you focussing on the fringe people ignore the fact they're the reason this whole this started as a controversy". Or almost gaslight and pretend said stuff didn't happen.
"People" "seemingly" "or almost"
So the usual high standard of evidence you use to justify your position to yourself yet inexplicably expect others to be convinced by.

Correct: the former is "not buying something" and the latter is a boycott

Or is the distinction solely "talking about why you aren't buying something, and outlining when you will buy the thing in the future"?

You don't remove things because they're trash, you remove things that people don't want.
excuse me.gif
Yes? That's what I mean? 'Trash' is subjective, subjective is defined by people, blah blah blah. Like, when I said 'Steam trash', I didn't mean just something people didn't like like The (new-)Sims, I meant 'broken, unplayable messes' and 'obvious scams' that somehow ended up through the system. Is EA removing their shit lootbox design scheme from BF2 after enormous outcry 'canceling' now too?
Removing the special from Netflix would harm trans people? What do you think would happen if you remove a special by the most popular comedian that a certain group pushed to get removed that the vast majority of people want to see? You think public interactions with trans people would stay the same or get better? Hell fucking no. And trans people did call for the removal of the special from Netflix. Just because the Netflix protesters didn't, doesn't mean it didn't happen. And no, being able to still torrent something doesn't mean it's "available". You think an app that gets removed from say the PlayStore on android will be as downloaded as it was on the PlayStore? Again, hell fucking no.
Ok, so frankly, I don't care. Be mad or upset or what the fuck ever you need to do if something you like to watch gets removed (though, like I said above, it was never going to fucking happen, ever), the second you try and treat someone else differently because of it you can get fucked. That is some weak ass pussy shit, fit only for little bitches. Plus, if all it takes for you to go 'well, guess I'm a fucking transphobe now' is your toys being taken away, doesn't that just prove everything that these protestors are saying correct?

This idea that we have to care about everyone to the fullest degree all the time. It's dumb, It's emotionally exhausting and maddening; and no-one can really do it, not really, people will claim to but they're liars because everyone needs emotional downtime as such.
Thank you.

This is why I don't care what happens to Dave Chappelle. I don't care Netflix pulls his show. I don't care if he loses his career. I don't care if trans witches curse him and he dies of cancer. I don't care about him, just like I don't care about any of the countless, worthless cis men who somehow have voices and platforms they don't deserve. I don't care. I don't see why anyone should care. Fuck him, and fuck the mediocre excuses for humans who give him oxygen.

Honestly, I'm glad we're at the point of just admitting that we don't have to care about everyone, because I'm tired of having to pretend I care about people so fragile and insecure, people with so little of value to actually say, that they decide to devote precious seconds of their mercifully limited time on this planet attacking trans people. I'm tired of pretending that I care about their careers, or their free speech, or their lives. At this point, empathy for those people is just self harm. So fuck them. Give me one reason why I should care what happens to them?

You can't feel empathy for everyone, and I'm drawing the line here.

This is a solid 50% joking, 50% serious, which makes it more of an actual joke than anything Dave Chapelle has said about trans people.

The funny thing is it doesn't matter with the top list exposure thing,

1) It doesn't people people will watch it
2) The creators get nothing from it either other than exposure because Netlfix doesn't pay royalties.
Again...(I can not believe how many times I need to say this)...that's the point. Of course it doesn't mean people have to watch it, what, did you think they were brainwashing people? Just by having it show up more not only ensures that it does get more views (by sheer dint of being more visible), not only is more exposure for the creators just great in general (the Russo brothers started out directing episodes of Community before making their break in MCU movies), but the point is that it encourages the fact that 'this is normal'. And, before I even hear another "fringe group' nonsense bit, remember this: the most fringe, and small group that will ever exist is you, the individual.

But here is the question i will pose? To whom would you give the rulemaker?
Apparently, to the person who makes the joke. We are obligated to like it. We are obligated to laugh. If you do not laugh at every joke, you have no sense of humor and are a bad person.

People may say whatever they want to you, and you will shut up and not respond. If you do, you're censoring and cancelling them. You must feel what they demand you feel. You are not allowed to your own emotions on an interactions.

That's what I get from the dialogue now.

I don’t have time to read through this whole thread, but my 2 cents after seeing the special are basically that he struck a nerve that seemed to have exposed the true nature of who’s who in that particular sphere of life. The ones who can see the forest for the trees have spoke out in support of him, including the victim’s family.

No you're not.

Not true in the slightest. Nobody laughs at every joke. Even people at the show live, have jokes that don't land for them. However when they don't laugh they don't just up in the middle of the room and scream, "THAT WASN'T FUNNY, I WANT MY MONEY BACK!"

People may say whatever they want to you, and you will shut up and not respond. If you do, you're censoring and cancelling them. You must feel what they demand you feel. You are not allowed to your own emotions on an interactions.
Umm....yeah.....I don't know what you are trying to get across with this....but um...you know...this is kind of the problem.

Again critique and what not is perfectly fine. How many video games have I reviewed on this forum? How many times have I told ya'll that some shit was trash? Does that mean you can't have played and enjoyed a game i clearly thought was aweful? No of course not, you have to make your own decisions and decide for yourself if something was worth playing. Critique is only meant to guide you toward things you will enjoy based on shared experience and likes.

And what's really sad, is that no matter how many times Dave explained to the audience what he was trying to get across nobody listened. People only heard the parts they wanted to hear and get mad about but nobody was LISTENING to what he was trying to say.

For someone who gets called racist, and priviliged a lot....the irony is so fucking deep that it is frankly terrifying.

Or they did listen and thought his argument was bunk because he's not half as convincing as everybody who thinks he's a truthteller seems to believe. People can have different opinions from you without being ignorant.

I would'a settled for some jokes

No you're not.
Then why am I constantly told that? "Get a sense of humor!" "Living rent free in your head, huh?" JOKES ARE FUNNY" when simply saying "Yea, that doesn't land."

Not true in the slightest. Nobody laughs at every joke.
But I thought JOKES ARE FUNNY. That's what the protestors outside of Netflix told me, and being conservative, they were right, weren't they?

Oh sure they didn't say "Dave Chappelle is responsible for these deaths" but they did say "There are reasons this special is harmful this is why (List of names)" pretty sure that the implication is clear enough.

Ok.

That's your prerogative

You can't just bombard people with adverts for something and have them watch it if it's not something they would be interested in watching. Also as I said Netflix pays 0 royalties. For the specific documentary mentioned Netflix bought the total rights to it, they own it permanently, it's not them leasing the rights.

No I mean it as in they really want people to watch certain content and well that's not going to get views especially when Netflix's algorithms are supposed to select content based on what people would enjoy watching as is. Some things have a somewhat limited audience for them or limited audience interested in them. Those already interested in more specialised stuff likely would be seeking it out and have seen it already.

As for "Encourages the idea it is normal" by having to deliberately force it and try to recommend it more and give it special treatment?

Not everything you read on the internet is true. You should do your own research instead of continuing to stay ignorant. But I guess you won't since CNN told you "do your own research" is bad.

What do we have here? One of the most commonly parroted phrases of the 'qanon' conspiracy theorists...all it's missing is a "lamestream media" and I would've gotten a whole bingo line!

Here's the thing, Dr dewormer, the opposite of not believing baseless conspiracies is not a sole keto diet of CNN, and plenty of people manage to "do their own research" including myself who don't believe the first shit a rando on YouTube or TikTok tells them just cause it goes against what they perceive the "mainstream narrative." Also, for a group of people who so often love to view and call others "sheep" "drones" and all the teen cringe perjoratives invoking mindless repetition, you sure do love to mindlessly repeat these tired old phrases without a passing hint of self-reflection.

Talking of online randos, let's try a language that does communicate to the "do your own research" mob mentality...

Jokes are funny. But sometimes they dont land with people and that is fine. The point is that even if the joke is bad it is still just a joke and taken offense to it is pointless and silly. It would be like getting upset about the alcoholism of Homer Simpson, a real serious condition played up for laughs on a tv show.

The reason why getting offended is useless is because it is arbitrary, and something that has no consequences. If something offends you, then what? What happens? Nothing. The answer is nothing. You might be a bit grumpy i guess buy the world around you doesnt fall apart. You dont lose your job, your apartment, your car, there is no offended police come to take you away. So go ahead and be offended it you want, but please explain why something so inconsequential should matter to anyone else around you?
