Final Fantasy XIII, which was ironic since I spent the year leading up to it's release claiming it was going to suck. After it's release I was one of the sole people I knew who loved the damn thing.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, even though most people I've met who've played it claims it be too buggy.
That, and the most recent Alone in the Dark. Just like it for some reason.
STALKER has come to be one of the biggest cult classics in videogames in recent years. There's a reason why it's got such a dedicated group of modders and fans.

So Alpha Protocol is pretty hated, then? Because I thought that game was fucking awesome.

Two Worlds 2, If only because the devs have been speaking and communicating with their fans and the fact that they recently have a promotion to get their games strategy guide and other free swag for 5$

Whatever problems a game may have; I find supporting a development team much easier when they seem down to earth and enjoy what they do.

Mount and Blade.
Who the hell "took a dump" on Mount and Blade? I've never played it myself but practically everyone I've heard mention it has said it was wonderful.

Well the games brilliant in a way, thats why its on the list but it has graphics on the same quality of the Original Half Life (yet it was released 10 years later) there's no story, about 4 lines of dialogue, the game is horrifically unbalanced and unbelievably punishing to new players...

But its a lot a lot of fun ;) and Knowing that every arrow that whizzes past your ear could insta kill you if it hit, potentially putting you back to square one.. it really ramps up the tension.
There's no story? It's a game where YOU make your own story.

Prototype, loved every single second of that game, still not entirely sure why people hated it so much
This. I loved every second of Prototype (well, maybe not those seconds on some of those movement events...). I thought it was a pretty fun game, and I hope they polish it up even more for the sequel and hopefully more people can look past "the buildings look like buildings from a PS2 game" and see that it's a big ball of mindless massacring fun.

Although the worst part was that it was originally going to come out in 2008, but got delayed to 2009 so they could work on it some more. Sadly, they ended up releasing it just a week or two after that awful piece of shit inFamous, and then everyone compared the two (which makes no sense because beyond the basic plot set-up of "you have super powers and don't know why" they are absolutely nothing alike) and somehow inFamous came out on top which is even more astounding to me. To start off, one is one of the blandest third person shooters of this console generation, and the other is an actiony fighting/beat em up style game. Yeah, I'll compare those two games after I get done with this piece I'm writing comparing Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy 13, because it makes about as much sense (read: none whatsoever) to compare a racing game and an RPG as it does to compare a 3rd person shooter and a fighter/beat em up.
And the worst bit is when people claimed that Prototype ripped off inFamous. Yeah that makes sense, a game that was originally going to come out in 2008 suddenly stole every idea it had from some other game that it released close to. They totally delayed the game so they could steal as much from inFamous, a game that hadn't come out and they hadn't played so they would have no idea what it has that they could steal, to put in their own game.

But yeah. Prototype. Awesome game. It just sucks that so many game sites and just general gamers were too busy trying to compare it to some other random game instead of just looking at it for its own merits. But who needs them? I'm getting the sequel as soon as it comes out and unless they pull a True Crime: New York City and screw everything up, I'm going to have another truckload of fun.

Developers can indeed do a lot through fan favour.

After playing (and loving) Turning Point, I sent an e-mail to the developers, Spark, saying in length that I thought the game was underrated due to lacking polish, bad marketing and bad release timing, but that it was a fun experience to me, and congratulating them on a job well done. I casually mentioned I still hadn't played Legendary due to not finding it in stores, but that after Turning Point, I was gonna say "screw the critics" and get the game anyway.

I was surprised to not only get a reply from the lead developer, but one thanking me for my words, and asking me for my address so they could send me a copy of Legendary. And so I gave them my address (overseas, Europe) and I got an awesome goodie bag with Legendary, the soundtrack and the graphic novel based on the game, all wrapped in a sweet cloth satchel.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a good way to treat your fans. They got a fan for life.

Is it me or i get the impression that the same topics are being reashed over and over again. I've answered the same question like...a month ago.

Personnally, i'd say Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days....far from perfect but still a fun game with interesting characters, story and style.

Gundam: Target in Sight. Yeah I know pretty much everyone hated it but I played it to death and loved it.

Hell tbh I pretty much love any mech game regardless of how bad it is.

Silent Storm and Hammer and Sickle, loved those games too.

Jericho.Someone summarised the game earlier but I actually enjoyed the story. It's a bit over the top but I guess the book was like that. There's a whole sub-genre of a strike team vs evil books and I've read a lot. They make a short introduction of each character and some interesting details for all of them get revealed later on just like in Jericho.

Alpha Protocol.Amazing game.

Kane & Lynch:Dead Men.I actually liked it...I can't even explain why.Probably because of the South American revolution missions. Those were ace.

DA2.But that's really a popular to hate game.I think it was amazing and could've just benefitted from a touched up story.

Brink! It's amazing and carries a lot of story and opportunity. It just needs even more costumes :D and some maps.

EDIT:I'll have to add Force Unleashed 2.It was good and the free fall missions were amazing.

Many people said there was something very wrong with Uru (plus, its reception was very meh. Many Myst fans don't realize it exists).

Damned if I can figure out what, its by far my favorite Myst game - even better than Riven.

I'm afraid your recollection of the original half-life's [http://www.gameguidedog.com/game-walkthrough/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/halflife1.jpg] graphics is somewhat rose-tinted. I'd place it more on Morrowind's [http://www.bethsoft.com/images/games/gamescrn_morrowind_03-B.jpg] scale (2003-era) with some graphical elements (texture quality, shadows, certain shader effects) from 2006-ish.

Also, keep in mind the nature of the beast: It has to handle hundreds of animated figures (slower than static models), with customized equipment (slower than single-part models), on open battlefields (slower than the confined play areas of games like CoD), on lower-end computers (as an indie title, it needs to reach as large an audience as possible!) So, it has every excuse in the world. for its appearance.

On topic: Risen. It's a very divisive game, with most of the console players hating it and many PC players loving it.
