I was just going to say that too. I don't think I've ever been quite as immersed in a game since '97 and Thief 1. You can't convince me that PS4 is more immersive than PS3 based on Thief 4 and its graphics if those bucket-headed guards (seriously, the polygons made their heads look like buckets back in that day) had me holding my breath in real life.SupahGamuh said:You know what other game is amazingly "immersive"*? Thief 1/2.
That's a 15 year old game that didn't needed a stupid "advanced mocap" for it's voice actors.

That pretty much sums it up. A good game will suck you in more than a game made to suck you in. Odd no? At it's core Thief has all the elements needed for a great game. They need to make it both challenging and fun (which can be hard) while keeping true to those things that made it such a smash hit. (which should be easy) None the less trying to make it more immersive (odd how spell check keeps highlighting that word) without trying to do the latter will result in something like Duke Nuke or any of the other pretty looking games that play like crap. I'd hate to see a bad release kill of an interesting franchise.ffs-dontcare said:if they make their game right, it'll be immersive in its own way and suck me in.
I... yeah I get the feeling they keep tossing this phrase around like it's going to cause an epiphany, immersion is far too broad a description and is highly subjective.BabySinclair said:Why is it when producers talk about "Immersion" I get worried?
So they're focusing on first-person perspective for the most part (unlike most other games that jump about disjointedly between first-, second- and third-person?), except for two undoubtedly very common aspects of gameplay? Astounding."Thief is primarily a first-person game. We worked a lot to create a really immersive environment, and integrate body awareness that really makes you feel like you are standing there in the shadows, about to steal that golden cup," Roy said. "To achieve this level of quality, we needed to focus on one view for those sequences. We still use some third-person camera, but only in specific moments when it fits the most, like a navigation segment or performing takedowns."
Jeez I know you're old-school but come on. All my books these days have at least two GPUs and motion controls. I've never been so immersed in books in my life. You should get with the program.Evil Smurf said:Fuck, does this guy know what "immersion" means? I get immersed in books and music, none of which have a GPU.

Sorry, I'm still really sore about that.
You can't jump? Umm instant not buy for me. I mean how uh what? I don't even... *breaks down in sobs* How did thief my beloved thief ever come to this.1337mokro said:Immersion = Glued to the wall praying to gods you don't believe in that the guard doesn't spot you.
Immersion =/= Shiny graphics and not being able to jump.
Immersion has lost all meaning, like the word literally. Unless the PS4 has a holodeck function it's nothing but a cheap ass PC. Meaning that your high end PC gaming master race gaming rig is going to be several times more immersive. Because specs of the machine the game is played on factor so much into immersion.
