i hate bad/sketchy A.I.'s in games. like in Gears of War 2, when your injured, and desperately calling to your teammate (who is right next to you) to save you, but they would rather catch butterflies. (first post ^^)
Nice Yahtzee reference. Im kinda new still but I think ive been around long enough to say welcome to The Escapist.

I hate it when youre in the middle of a game, then you notice some lag going on, then suddenly you drop dead. This drives me completely crazy because my connection is usually good and its just other people slowing the game down. Also it usually happens more than once before the person with the wal-mart quality connection gets dropped.

FIFA 09, when the other team some how goes from Real Salt Lake to being Manchester United in their abilities, being able to counter-attack with ease and stop any offensive advances I make. Or the horrible controls for the game on the Wii. Also, Chris Rolfe's lack of ball control. That just pisses me off to no end, to have to sub out Calen Carr, Patrick Nyarko, or Alfred Stuff (Not a real player. 54 overall, and a beast still.) to put in a guy that won't be able to keep the ball.

In Left 4 Dead, when i'm just running along i have two regular zombies hitting me - it slows me down and i can BARELY move. How does slapping and hitting a person cause them to stop dead in their tracks? I can understand a horde of zombies gathering around you can do some damage but 1-2 zombies? REALLY?
I really hate that. Also when they crowd around you in zombie circle jerk, I know it's a game mechanic but it still makes me RAGE!

Also when I disconnect or crash for like the 6th time in a row in a game, usually at the most important parts too

Single player games: the enemy can do 50-60% of your max health in one attack, have more defense than is logical or fair, or just have cheap AI to up the difficulty instead of actual challenge. SF4, Seth. He has double the health that he's supposed to, his AI is cheap, and I'm pretty sure his attack priority is higher than it should be. Ninja Gaiden 2: bosses have grabs or combo attacks that hit for 50+% of your health sometimes on Mentor difficulty (stupid tunnel worm), ninjas like to spam exploding shuriken and blow their arms off with you to take off 20% of your health so they can blow the rest of themselves up for even more damage later (and all of the explosions make it hard to see), and enemies die from attacks that one-shot them normal difficulty (they walk away from spinning headfirst dives to the ground) This isn't even the highest difficulty level yet. Cheap AI with damage that clearly is meant to be insanely crippling doesn't work when you want to make a game hard. I don't feel like practicing till I want no damage runs.
Multiplayer: In CoD4 when the entire other team loads up with sniper rifles and plants itself in a building (or a few buildings watching every significant area of the map). Also, once when the entire other team loaded up with grenade launchers in a no-respawn game type and fired into our side of the map at the beginning of every round. More commonly on more linear maps (Wetworks), when the entire other team loads up with Fragx3 and lobs them into our side. Basically, I hate explosive spammers. It's like they don't even need their guns.

This doesn't really apply to very many games, but any multiplayer/mmo/whatever game where someone can pay the game company for free stuff. Some spoiled little kid with rich parents shouldn't be able to get the stuff I spent hours trying to get by just bribing the damn company.

Poor AIs make me more angry than anything else I can think of...
Though poor control schemes are up there as well.

Regarding snipers: can we please have enough perspective to recognize that the cheapness (/non-cheapness) and necessary skill (/complete lack of required skill) can vary significantly between games, and even sometimes between LEVELS in the same game? If someone has made a map where there are roosting points none of the starting weapons can get to, there's lots of wide empty spaces, the only non-sniper weapons that can readily attack those roosting points require running through large areas without cover to obtain, and snipers can achieve a one-hit kill, you would have to be an idiot to suggest the snipers don't have the advantage. Conversely, in a game or level where sniping has a long load time, there's little cover or "roosting" spots, some characters can survive one hit from a sniper and keep going, and sniper rifles are, say, the scissors to an explosive weapon's rock, it can take a great deal of skill to be a successful sniper. The fact is that snipers and/or sniper weapons are often the one thing that plays significantly differently in a field of fairly similar roles; it might be fair, even recognizing that you in particular are both a very skilled and fair player in that particular role, to note why others playing those other roles feel disrupted in those roles by the sniper's presence.

(You know, before going back to lining up that headshot.)

[/sniperrant]

Any game boss that is "You, but better." The powers you had to choose between as you gained levels? I have all of 'em. You have 100 HP? How quaint, I have 1000. You have to charge to do that attack? Watch me do it three times in quick succession. That's all the endurance/mana you have for this battle? Grit your teeth as I grow all mine back at a moment's notice.

Don't get me wrong, bosses are supposed to be a challenge. But certain kinds of advantages basically seem to be the programmers crying out, "Look at me! I can't program AI for S@#%!" The memorable and fun bosses are the ones that either make the player feel like a hero as they use all their newfound skills and powers masterfully to gain the advantage or turn everything the player has learned over the course of their playing on its head, making the player come up with new ways of dealing with a problem on the fly. Facing someone who is just "You, only better" often becomes a matter of how fast you can twitch, and generally feels like playing online against someone who's using cheat codes. Which is to say, not much fun.

Shitty Endings and WAY WAY too easy final boss fights...

One that is a victim of both of these you ask? Fable II

Snipers.

I HATE snipers so much. I don't care that most FPS players like being snipers. Its the least skilled way to play any FPS. Try actually playing the game instead of hiding in a little hill keeping your mouse at the same spot where you know someones head will always be at regardless of how you enter.
not true sniping is one of the hardest classes of FPS for you have to find a hiding spot chainge after 1 shot never get seen and be a good and fast aim
I do love stabbing snipers in the back.

That was to keep really good players from just running ahead and abandoning the new guys. Although it is stupid that they didn't at least work in some sort of a grabbing animation.

The whole invincible children thing drives me up a wall. Especially in Fallout 3 and Fable 2. How does anyone expect gaming to be taken seriously when game companies refuse to stand up for themselves. At least Bethesda was honest about their reasoning unlike Molineux's "off message" nonsense. All right what's the "message" of Fable? Going through puberty is a crime worthy of capital punishment?

Doing PVP in WoW as an Alliance character. Seriously, where did all these retards come from? I tell them that the only way to win in Warsong Gulch is to band together and rush into the Horde Mill, and they say "stfu nub." and proceed to run alone into the base and get killed instantly.

fighting game AI (on harder difficulties) I'm fine if I'm playing a human opponent and they do something that takes skill (like get a 20+ hit combo with arakune in blazblue for example) but because the computer can do it as soon as it wants to, and as many times as it wants to, what I would normally commend for skill becomes what causes me to rage quit, solely because the computer does it effortlessly and I have to just sit there and watch my health go down because the computer just hit me 20 times and then does a distortion drive that hits me another 30 times *rants to self*

anyway... that's about it.

When the AI starts to use cheap tactics. Like repeating an attack which makes you fall over time after time after time...

Oh, and unresponsive controls.

"I want to pick THAT up. No! Not that thing, THAT thing." *Sigh* "One more time. Alright, awesome, I got it."

And then you get shot.
