Money grubbing prick that it is.
Respect has been gained.

OT: DLC, if you wanted it in the game, then goddammit put it there in the first place.
Most of the time, DLC is added to add stuff in that developers thought of after, or were having a lot of trouble working on.

motion controls and 3D, they don't belong in games and you know it ( except railshooters at the arcade)

What Blizzard has done to world of warcraft. Good thing that there are some great private servers for classic WoW.

The voice acting in Alpha Prime. That is still the only game I have ever quit just because the acting in the cut scenes was so bad.

Casual aiming mode in Red Dead, that is a huge pain in the ass when the genuinely good people get gunned down by someone who doesn't know how to play because they have a lock on system.

EA and Ubisoft's anti-piracy measures... need I say more? Epic fail and may they rot among the eternal flames with the likes of Prince of Persia 3D and any game with those crappy video's with real actors...

But the worst to me: The decision to make Thief: Deadly Shadows with the Unreal2 engine, which utterly destroyed the possibility of keeping the large levels, made Garett die instantly in water and generally messing the game up no end.
Actually, the level size wasn't due to the Unreal 2 engine- it was because of the port to the XBox and its 64MB of memory. I played a Fan Mission for T:DS that was easily as large as many for Thief 1 and 2.

The water thing, though... yeah, that was just stupid.

Crash Bandicoot going multi-platform. When It did , the quality dropped immensely. I would say when Naughty Dog stopped developing it, but I quite like Crash Bash.

Also the lack of good relationships between characters in games. Most of them have a saturday morning cartoon relationship depth, when it can really be taken further

Also, protection missions that go for more than 5 minutes

There's some good ones here, but on a purely academic level, NONE of those even come close to the betrayal and handling of Star Wars Galaxies and the NGE (New Game Enhancements). This was the worst handled event in the history of gaming and I'm not sure it is debatable.

For those that don't know, the NGE was a complete revamp of the entire game...not just a significant change to game mechanics...a complete overhaul of gameplay, strategies, advancement, and even player classes. They removed all the classes and replaced them with just 8. One of which was Jedi, which up to that point took months and months of steady grinding to just unlock and even more time to grind up to a level that is even remotely usable...all the time dealing with extremely harsh forced PvP death xp penalties...

All that work came to naught with the NGE.

And that's only half of it. They developed these changes in complete secret. They didn't consult the player base and in fact launched an expansion a week before the changes were "announced". And by announced, they didn't officially tell us, they brought in some well known players and had them play test the game (most of them hated it...they devs didn't care) and they players then posted of the forums that it was happening and was later confirmed by the devs. The ultimate bait and switch.

The SOE employee who represented the community fought back for the way this was being done and instead of listening to her they fired her. Over night rare parts for crafting became obsolete, whole professions were deleted in their entirety and all the others were smashed into classes that only slightly represented what they did before.

Over time the NGE actually became quite playable and can be fun (not at first...it was seriously broken when it first went live), but the damage was done. No single decision in gaming history has driven away more players to a game in so little time as the NGE.

Invisible walls. If the developer doesn't want you to go somewhere, then why can't they just put an actual obstacle there?
You cant put walls in the sky

I've got a good one.

Eternal Sonata is a great game, but it pulls a serious dick move.

If you lose from the (surprise twist) end boss, you get a game ending, but it's not the real ending, of course. End bosses must be beaten. When you defeat the boss before him, you receive an item, with which you can open the optional dungeon, which you'll need to do, because the actual end boss is virtually impossible to defeat if you haven't seriously grinded that optional dungeon and its difficult bosses.

So close to the end, and suddenly you have to run all the way down that tower you're on, open that dungeon, beat everything in it, be forced into "party level 6", which means the controls change everytime you use them, then run all the way up that tower again, and take on the end boss, with new incredibly frustrating Moving Commands.

Also, that fucking preachy end credit sequence.
