Meh, that sounds unforgivingly op to me. Several LoL champions get multiple "Flash"-like abilities and it drives me fucking crazy.

Flash may not be as brootal as that, but at least it's balanced.
Explain why that is OP.

You forgot the part where you can't use it while taking damage. And it's not OP, the power levels in Dota are vastly superior to LoL,
If you're talking to me.

Yeah cuz a short range teleport is only good for escaping... You'v clearly never Flashed over a minion wave to hit a max range Bandage Toss for the mostssonal gank ever.
Blink Dagger is better than flash in every way.

- 14 second cooldown.
- 75 mana cost.

It does go onto a cool down or 3 seconds if you take damage from an enemy hero but it allows you to intiate, escape freely.
It's core on some heroes like Enigma/Earthshaker who require it to get into the middle of the enemy team and let rip with their ultimates.
It can be bought on almost everyone though (Pudge and Vengeful spirit are not allowed it)and used effectively, blink daggers make some heroes terribly scary.

True facts lol players, Flash isn't that good.

While blink dagger is a very powerful initiation item, it's very limited in terms of escape. Unless you are already outrunning your pursuers, and will probably get away anyway, the chances that you will go for 3 seconds without taking any damage at all are rather slim.

What's actually OP is Anti-Mage's blink ability. While it does have a roughly 0.4 second cast time, unlike the dagger which iirc is instant, it has a 5 second cooldown and isn't stopped by people hitting you. On the other hand, unlike the dagger it is stopped with silence, but those generally don't last long enough.

Nice tips, although i think i will stick to the bot matches until i eventually decide to play online.

Still do not consider myself decent enough to coordinate with real teammates.

Didn't expect such a great OP.

I've played 600 hours (500+ games) of Dota 2 against unfair bots and only a dozen or so matches against people (now that the bot training is done). I can't say this sort of primer is really aimed at me any more, but I still endorse this post 100%. leet, I'd +1 you if this were battleclinic.

I'd just like to nominate Lone Druid for a spot on your DON'T TOUCH IF YOU'RE NEW list. Micro intensive, his Spirit Bear also has an inventory, so you have to consider two item builds, strategic swapping and so on. He's as challenging as Chen, with the added headache of being a hard carry.

Compared to this legendary Blink Dagger of course it's not. Do you see a Blink Dagger in LoL though? It's actual fact that Flash is one of the few truly overpowered things in the game. You take a glance at someone's Summoner's and "oh that guy has no Flash, lol free kills" is the reaction. Every single time. You can't chase as well with it and you can't escape as well without it, even with characters who have their own teleport

Oh and since it has a mega long cooldown, failing your Flash is one of the most humourous things in the game. Trust me, everyone does it sometimes... Failing a Blink Dagger is nowhere near as funny since you waste far less resources.

True facts, DOTA players: Flash is the only thing we have

Lol, I picked Tinker for my first game on DOTA (coming from a HON/LOL background). I did relatively good, but then again, it was versus newbies; I didn't know he was a difficult charachter. :\

I really like playing with some friends from university, and they recently got me into DotA2.
The thing is, they played DotA for about 6 years, and I just started, and naturally suck. How long will it take for me to be "credit to team"?

Just another piece of advice

- if you want to take this game seriously at all, you should only be playing Captains Mode. It is what the game is balanced around, and unlike AP, the scum of the earth do not congregate there. It is also the best place for meeting people who would be interested in teaming up and eventually scrimming/IHing.

- that said, you must learn to draft before you enter CM, so you should be a good player before joining in.

Hmmm thanks, that looks helpful. Well, one thing I can't put in is commitment. MOBA is not my main game genre and I'm not too concerned with competitive gaming. But still, DOTA sounds worth a try.

The only reason I would get into it whatsoever if not to play competitively, is because the esport is so damn entertaining and well produced that it would suck to not have any idea what is going on (The International was brilliant).

Apart from that, if your just in it to have fun, your in the wrong genre. Even in scumbag AP games where I cannot see a point of being competitive at all, you will receive abuse from teammates if they don't like what your doing, and while it starts fun, its the competitive nature of the game that keeps us playing.

Oh I know, I'm fully aware of the crippling fear that league players have when they don't have flash.
I used to be one.

How long is a piece of string?

I play mostly vs. AI games in LoL.

Competitive gaming can be fun, I just don't like it when people take it too seriously.
