I agree, that slow start was a bit of a problem, but I persevered because the game very quickly took a nose dive into darker, more interesting detective noir territory.Racecarlock said:Heavy Rain seems to get a lot of love, which is quite a feat considering there's a 2 minute scene in the game where you just sit there and watch a kid do homework. And it starts with 2 hours of walking around houses and setting tables and opening fridges and generally doing things that are basically the opposite of exciting or interesting in any way, shape, or form.
You just made my morning, thank you XDbadgersprite said:Sliced Bread. Sitting there all smug and divided into equal parts...
You know what, though? Fuck sliced bread. So overrated. It requires no skill, there's no difficulty curve and it holds your hand through the sandwich making process. It's clearly for casual eaters, not hardcore eaters like me.
You can count me in too. I haven't liked any game from Bioware, although Dragon Age was "ok".Julianking93 said:Mass Effect.

This is so true. I love that series though.audiblemirage said:The show Dexter, haven't heard a single person hate on that yet.
True, true, but then we get a lot of hate, to the extent that I'm what you could (I suppose) call a closet anime watcher IRL.Romidude said:If Anime was a religion; it's followers would destroy nations at a whim(not that religions don't already).

I....well.....then I guess I'd love a sample of what you like? Your list of why's would be exactly the same list of why I liked ME (both 1 and 2) so I need a frame of reference here to understand your tastes.Stasisesque said:Why Mass Effect especially? I've never come across hate for an independent game, band/song or movie. They all seem remarkably praised for their artistic quality, individualism, deep personal meaning, structure, moral, intellectualism etc. etc.
Me, me! I dislike Bioware, Mass Effect especially.Julianking93 said:Mass Effect.

I hated ME1 for it's goddarn stupid AI, but ME2 was great.
Mass Effect just seems the biggest offender in their armoury of games to me. So far.
A buddy of mine actually likes Majora's Mask more. Does that count?Twilight_guy said:Have you seen anyone who genuinely dislikes Ocarina of Time? Not someone who's just trolling but honestly disliked the thing fairly? They're few and far between.
Okaaaay. Bioshock, for example, I am enthralled by the story - both as told by the diaries, and the gameplay. The gameplay itself I very much enjoy, very basic idea made complex if you desire it; not to mention the moral decisions (no, the pay off was not as good as it could have been, but the game did a fair job of making you think about your actions). The AI was predictable, but certainly not frustrating, and the voice acting was superb - fitted both the genre and the era.camazotz said:I....well.....then I guess I'd love a sample of what you like? EDIT: I'll add Pixar to the list! I mean, I like some of their movies, but seriously, the stories they tell are about as exciting and predictable as watching two blind men duking it out in a UFC fighting arena.

Cool, cool....I also thought Bioshock was an amazingly well done game, and have a better perspective on what it is about Mass Effect that you didn't like, and why. TO contrast, I love RPGs and I feel that RPGs with a storyline and consequence are quite enjoyable, but I would have to rank, say, Fallout 3 as one of my all time favorites because it managed to have an open-world sandbox design while still offering you storylines of depth and consequence (that you could ignore if you so desired). Mass Effect did so as well, although ultimately it had a narrower focus and the open elements were loaded in the middle of the game and not really essential to the main story; ME ended up being very immersive for me because I enjoyed that story, but it was much more linear than Fallout 3.Stasisesque said:Okaaaay. I also enjoy basic (non-realistic) FPSs, big fan of simulation games (becauseI'magirl), enjoy MMOs for their complex lore which you can choose to skip over if you want, you don't need to know any of it, it's just fun.
I simply do not enjoy RPGs, ME claimed to be an RPG of action and consequence, but it still, as all RPGs had a plot you were following - it just gave the illusion of choice. They play, to me, the way Choose Your Own Adventure books do. You might as well just read the pages in chronological order, because you're never going to get your own ending, you're only ever getting the ending they've chosen - but they'll let you pretend you wrote it.
