Things you found out about your parents that shocked you

My dad is not my mother's first husband, and her first husband beat and abused her. That was pretty shocking when I found out about it.

Also, the fact that she used to be Wiccan was pretty shocking, considering she is a really passionate Christian.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the fact that pretty much everyone in my extended family has suffered from depression or bipolar disorder at some point or another (found out from my mother when she was picking up anti-depressants). Shocked me because it means I a highly likely to suffer from a mental disorder (probably depression) at some point in my life because of it. So yeah, fun times all around. XP

My dad used to own this really nice red car (I forgot what was the make) but he sold it when he move to the UK to be with my mum (my dad used to be from the US).

I was kinda shocked to find out that my mother used to be a smoker. I was even more shocked to find out that she was a smoker while she was pregnant with me...

This is neat, I happen to be someone's oldest half-brother and my mum had me at the age of 16.

Anyway, I don't have any world-shattering revelations. My dad occasionally relates a cool story from his days in the navy, which sometimes surprise me (one time, during some sort of pretend military exercise sort of thing, my dad's ship managed to sneak up on a big American battleship and fill it full of an awful lot of ammunition. The Americans were rather surprised when they found out).

Hehe... I remember when I was a kid... my dad used to just file all of his porn on the shelves... it was all in alphabetical order... in it's own little genre section... right next to horror movies...<.<

mostly because this was the 90's and we just didn't have internet... and I only ever used the computer to play Putt Putt Goes To The Moon...<.<

I found out from one of my aunts that my mom had multiple boyfriends (at once) when she was in high school/college. She was also the college slut when she attended.

I asked my mom about this and she flatly admitted to doing it all.

My parents have always been really really open about their lives, so there's not very much left to shock me.

But my dad once did regale my sister and I with the tale of the first time our mum gave him a blowjob. That one kind of stuck out, even amongst all the other tales we know. Up until that point I'd been quite happy to just assume that they only ever had sex with the lights off in the missionary position for the purposes of procreation, but then suddenly they were actually people who had sex, which was very different.

Oh yeah, and we were in a pretty fancy restaurant while this tale was being told, so not much space for reactions.

When I was a baby I had a major issue with crying. No matter what they did I just wouldn't stop. So my parents put me under the kitchen sink and ran the water.

My Dad said quote "Some people would call that child abuse, I say it saved your life."

Whats really ironic is I found toddler pictures of me hiding under the sink and smiling...
so maybe I liked it under there? I don't know.

Might explain a few social issues I have.

Well I found out my dad suffered form depression and had to get professional help about it, not exactly 'shocking' if you know the guy but it made me realise the times I've felt depressed might be a bit more serious than I thought.

The time I found out my dad had 2 brothers who died before I was born (one of which before he was born too) was pretty surprising...


Also, opposite to almost every one else the fact that I haven't found out that my mum smoked weed surprises me. If you ever met her for more than five minutes you would think she was a full on drug taking hippy in the 70's. But alas no, she never took any drugs and I don't think I'll ever prove that statement wrong.

So as not to get off topic, I walked in on my parents doing it a few months ago.
