A few minutes ago, I was listening (and singing along with the chorus) to One from A Chorus Line.

For those few unaware of it, or don't recognise it by the title, here it is.

And it is pretty safe to say that this is not of thing I would generally listen to, I'm a rock kind of guy, with a bit of blues as well, generally not a man that likes his musical numbers. But I love this song.

So, Escapists, what things do you like that are outside your norm? Stuff that would make your friends say "But that's not what YOU usually like"

Anyone who knows me knows I typically hate pop music.

Taylor Swift and Gangnam Style are the exceptions to this rule.

Also I don't care what anyone says Taylor Swift is amazing and I love her.

I actually like Katy Perry. I enjoy her music and she's pretty smoking so there's that.

And being a somewhat pacifist, when I listen to stuff like Pantera screaming about kicking ass or playing violent video games it sort of throws people off.

Yes she is! I love her, too!

OT: Um, I keep a pretty open mind to things, but the only rap I've found myself liking is Eminem, so that's outside my "norm," I guess.

I was originally going to say J-pop and K-pop on the basis that I hate American Pop but I don't think that would work out since J/K pop is so very different from American pop...

I don't generally like rap though and...it looks like Marter ninja'd me with Eminem but I also like listening to the late Biggie-Smalls.

Other than music, I'm starting to realize that survival/horror games really take me out of my normal mindset if not my comfort zone. My favorite games of all time are titles like Zelda 2, Final Fantasy 7 -> 10, Pokemon RPGs and, Bethesda RPGs going back to Oblivion (I liked Morrowind too I just haven't beaten it). That being said, I've recently played Eternal Darkness, Alice: Madness Returns and, Silent Hill Downpour (I've only beaten the platformer so far) since it's October and you know, scariness. I'm not a massive wuss but I've been startled by Downpour and unnerved by ED. After October I think I'll go back to my happier games and maybe put in Fallout 3 if only to lob a mini-nuke at the Dunwich Building.

I like to get onto a crowded bus, and touch women.
It's especially good if I can make it seem like their fault.
...
...
I don't actually do that, by the way.
No no, I just smell them.
What? They don't own the air.

Well of course there are always good things outside your genre.
Like me, HeavyMetal all the way but for example Gangsters Paradise by Coolio is a really good song, both in lyrics and meaning of the song. I also like Jerry and the peacemakers (think band name is spelled wrong) with You'll Never Walk Alone which might be oustide of my musical genre but when you look at other aspects of my life you would notice it is quite me ;)

While I hate hip hop, I like RUN-DMC. Heck I even bought the best of RUN-DMC ablum ages ago (I only buy albums that I know I going to like which I was right with that one).

Seriously I can like anything nowadays. It's weird. I was strictly a Metal man a few years ago, still love the stuff but I can get into pretty much anything. 'Cept Rap. Can't stand that stuff I swear.

This is still the best song ever made. Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

:3

Ok, think 3IOB style. That was pretty much all I was into.

V reference for people who don't know wtf that is. For the record, the background guitar solo in the background of the first verse is still so awesome

Now onwards to the examples of random crap I like nao!

I'll stop there since if I start posting game music we'll be here all day

Ok,ok i'll stop now.

No one more, this one's a classic:

Now if only I knew how to turn autoplay on. Still you get the idea. >:D XD

I guess I'm somewhat of a hipster when it comes to music usually. But man do I love this:

IT'S JUST SO CATCHY. MY BRAIN.
No but seriously, it's been playing non-stop in my head for months now. And not even in an annoying way, I'm still not tired of it. Weird.

I usually only listen to metal, rock, 80's pop, and not much else. I especially don't like rap. But sometimes, just sometimes, I come across the rare rap song I actually enjoy. Here are some of them:

My dad is a music hipster and takes pride in obscure groups... he introduced me to this;

At first I thought it was stupid, but now I don't know if it's stupid - or brilliant.

lol pos being about stuff out of your 'norm'. How bout not thinking in those terms period. Why want to be normative? or frame your tastes to boundaries by thinking other tastes are out of reach or at least somehow so far from what is not "out of your norm"

I live in bed playing video games and my normal most active part of the day is getting something to eat.
I also enjoy going on hiking trips though.

I don't have a problem with the music, what I do have is how the camera keeps bouncing up and down (hurts my eyes) and how soulless those... girls? look with there blank eyes and there never closing weird looking mouths.
