I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I highly advise skipping WoW.It had good Lore behind it and it's quite fun as MMO, but as game it's a bit dated. MMOs are trying to change th Genre as of late, so I reccomend staying on the fence and keep an eye on the upcoming MMOs instead.
Admitedly every game I've had my eye on so far has failed once it was released. The only ones not out yet are The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 looks promising and is free to play apart from buying the disk. My interest in The Old Republic has waned as of late though, but I think it's still worth checking out.
I'll be honest, I in fact would like WoW to die. So I'm a little bias. I would prefer it if they made a WoW 2 with better more innovative and interesting gameplay.
EDIT: If you get addicted to games easily the stay away from MMOs in general.
I should also mention they I played it for quite a while. I think I got to 30s or 40s level wise. I didn't really stay for the gameplay itself, mostly the Roleplay(was on a RP Server) and the playing with a few friends I made on there.
