It'll be awesome all the way, until you quit, then you'll back and think "why did I waste my life?"

those are my experiences btw

Played for one week trial then paid for another month, even spending £10 on it wasn't enough to convince me to even play to the end of the month.

I was enticed in by a friend and it was such a waste of my time after levelling to 40, I don't see how it's addicting personally. All of the really rare interesting stuff has such insane drop rates I just could not care, too much time for not enough. I mean in the time some people spend getting worthless fancy looking items you could probably actually achieve something with your life, you could get fluent in another language, teach yourself new skills or anything it is such a massive time sink and people know that it takes this kind of time, I cannot fathom why you would willingly put yourself in for that.

The ONLY reason I would ever play it is if my PC wasn't able to handle anything better and even then, Guild Wars I think is a much better MMO which almost anyone can run.

I tried the WoW trial with another friend, to make a different friend of ours happy, we tried to get into it but the only fun we could have was dicking around and dancing in stupid places.

Right from the start the quests were mundane and boring, we thought they'd get better as we leveled up, especially as this is when cataclysm came out and everyone was telling us they'd revamped the quests we were doing so theyd be more fun. They just got more mundane and pointless.

The gear we got from every quest would be useless 10 minutes later so I ended up running around naked the whole time.

It really seemed like whatever fun the game had was walled back behind a few weeks of play time (and subscription fees), like youd have to invest a lot of time in a character before you could start enjoying things.

For me though the game degraded into running around with no clothes, dance-thrusting my crotch into the christmas gmomes faces while my friend who plays the game long-term gathers questsf rom NPC's.

Meh if I were you I'd give EQ2 a try. WOW just isn't the same and the new expansion made it , (in my opinion), a theme park gear grind for 'l33t raiderz'. I'm serious the game is 'raid or die' towards end game. It's frustrating and no longer 'fun'.

I suggest EQ2 because it has loads upon loads of content to explore and find. If you are not into a gear rat race, you can quest to your hearts content. It also has ton of fun complicated raids if, that's your itch as well. All in all the community is very relaxed.

No one is mocking anyones 'Gear Score' or iLevel. No one worships the 'guy with the rare mount' or the 'fella decked in raid gear', and hell you even get a home to decorate with items that you can craft or get from quests. *shrug* I think thats cool. ^_^

Just my 2 copper...that I spent in Freeport.

Well, after people have been harassing me and I've been throwing them on ignore, I actually wan to play World of Warcraft. I have a free trial, a friend who threw me another trial, and a friend who told me he'd pay for the first three months.

Here's the thing, I honestly have never been able to stand WoW. I looks utterly boring and a war of clicking. However, recently I've had the urge for an MMO, but Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter, and Maple Story aren't cutting it.

Someone convince me in or out of this.
Wow has a great stylized world. It is really cartoony but pretty fun. Lots of great jokes and references.

Rift has a great combat system. Every class can do almost every role. Its easy to swap roles and fill any nitch in a group or try a different strategy.

Eve has a great economy system as it is very open what you can do. Just like in real life you cannot learn how to do everything. But just like IRL its boring, then when you are not paying attention and end up in the wrong part of town bullies will break your knees. You play this game to get a bigger ship but the bigger the ship/more cash you have the more con artists/pirates will target you.

DC universe if you are playing a console. Ive seen that game and its makes no sense on the PC but for a controller its the best.

You know what I don't understand? I don't understand why WoW is the only game that gets threads like 'Should I play this game?'. For every other game, people just play it. WoW is just another game, and like a lot of other games, it's a little addictive sometimes.

If you want to try it, just frigging try it. All you need is time, just like with every other game. Ever.

It's definitely worth a try, there's a reason the only real haters are the "MMOs are evil" crowd who parrot the term "Skinner Box" and other fancy words they only know from Extra Credits.

Also, I really get the feeling people have never played a game with actual grind if they think WoW is "grind-y."
That's kind of like saying people who haven't had a root canal with a an ice pick don't know what a root canal is even though they've had one with a dental drill.

Grinds are archaic mechanics. Believe me I've played every Final Fantasy game that's not a MMO. Grinds in any form suck. The world is better off without them.
My point exactly. WoW has done its damnedest to reduce grinds in the game since day one. And it's better off for it.

I suggest trying it, if you have any self control at all you stop when you want or need to.
And WoW isn't actually a bad game, it is quite balanced and fun.
I laugh at how serious you are taking my post. Compare playing a game to smoking or crack? Riiiiigghttttt

See, I played the W.O.W. free trial, and I don't think they're getting rid of the grind so much as making the bitter medicine go down a little easier (though I realize this has to be approached on a per-person basis) because grinds equal time and time equals monthly fees for Blizzard. They might have sweetened and jimmied the grind a little but it's still a grind. Maybe they do have purer intentions though, and I'm just being cynical.

All I'll say is, if you have lots of spare time and cash lying about and like grinding for XP and such, WoW is perfect. Any other circumstance, I'd stay away, especially If you can't stand relentless grind

Don't bother. I played it for a long time but I stopped a few months ago, wish I'd stopped sooner.

It's an extremely efficient time waster, and the ratio of fun to time invested is not good at all.

the WoW community is pretty poor - u should try to find a group of people who u can buddy up with. Try to find people who have similar goals/time for the game as you. My experience is that Horde is often more mature than Alliance but i can't vouch for every realm.

If you're into PvE, you absolutely need a guild with at least 10 reliable people with similar time and interest. I cannot stress enough how bored you'll be after a couple of weeks alone in the endgame.
PvP... i'm sorry to say isn't what it used to be.(i was s1-4 gladiator or titled.) Don't expect balance in arena, you won't find it. Alternatively League of Legends has a great combat system and it's free.

guys, i spent nearly 2 years gold farming and or commercially power-leveling with up to 12 accounts running at a time. In that time i was making easy $1.5-3k a month selling the gold to vendor sites at cost. Whether you have an opinion about farmers/game economy blah doesn't matter so much, you must concede however that this is all made possible by the fact that WoW is a long, brutal and relentless grind (which no one with a RL has time for).

If you have a group of friends who play and they're going to bring you in and take care of you and show you the ropes and how to play right, then it could be fun for a while.

The main problem most have is the neverending stream of assholes and children who play and they're tough to put up with if that's all you have for interaction. The mechanics of the game are a bit grind-heavy and you can waste even more time not knowing what you should be doing, but none of it is as bad as putting up with the shitheads.

I've played a few WoW trials. Wasn't my thing, but it was alright. I don't see how it's addictive...Now, Warcraft 3 TFT was addictive...

Go ahead, play it. Never know, you might like it. Just pre-set parental controls firsthand. An hour of WoW a day to keep the creepers away, mmmkay?
