This year is my freshmen year. Generally through Kindergarten and 8th grade I've had intelligent teachers who, well, know how to teach properly. I've had a few complaints here and there, but I've been taught what I needed to know.

This has all changed, due to a recent retirement scheme to hire new teachers for less pay than the older ones, I've gotten a lot of new teachers. And some of them are for god's sake complete bumbling idiots. In the first week

-Me and two other class mates had to explain to the world events teacher what a Muslim was

-In our "essential" health class, we had an incredibly stupid work sheet that gave diary entries of situations that are bad and we needed to change them. One had to do with a child getting a ride home in a car with no seat belts. One of my friends actually stood up and asked the teacher ( a retired basketball player) why we were doing this, that it was complete common sense and a kindergartner would know better then this. This to which she didn't reply.

-Our world events teacher is convinced all Muslims hate Americans.

-Our physics teacher doesn't teach anything, all she does is hand out random bull shit work sheets with nothing to do with physics.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my health book says sexual abstinence is "healthy". Seriously, what the fuck? Bottling up your sexual needs and desires is FUCKING HORRIBLE for you.

-The physics teacher often plays games loudly on her computer.

So, does your school have crap like this that goes on? Do you worry about actually getting a proper education to pass ATC's and get into college?

I hated school... good thing I'm out...
actually most of my teachers were cool, my English teacher and I would sometimes jam since he played the bass and I played the guitar and my geometry teacher helped me a lot through my depression...

Yes, my third period teacher only gives us busy work and gives a slideshow to copy notes from.

Yes I do; I'd rather have a teacher that's willing to teach than one that's lazy.

That is really weak, although not that surprising. Why would anyone want to be a teacher, putting up with some of the kids that come through, for the money they get paid. If funding for education doesn't go up soon, there will be fewer qualified teachers available because they will go do something else. And all the good teachers who genuinely want to teach kids will move to private schools where they get the funding a resources they need to do their job.

I was pretty fortunate to grow up in a pretty well funded school district. But then I went to a pretty weak state college where some classes were a joke (although others were quite good). I'm just glad I'm done with my education before the whole system really takes a dive.

But, keep in mind that there are no rules against educating yourself. It may get you a "nerd" reputation, but who cares what the idiots think when they're flipping your burgers and you're actually living a successful life. Don't let your crappy teachers be an excuse for you to fail.

My middle school isn't like that; in fact, my teachers happen to be incredibly awesome.
I truly hope your teachers don't contribute to the growing idiot population in the US.

Proper education... what a laugh. You do know you're going to need to put up with that same ridiculousness in college too, right? If not even more of it...

Best you can do is talk to your parents about it, good luck.

I'm guessing that you go to a public school? That's pretty bad. For my own experiences, in the eighth grade I some how got stuck in a reading class, in which I proceeded to sit in the back of the class and read and got in trouble for. Sure I never payed attention to the lessons but I was still reading.

Well, it's "here and there".

I don't like to be a grammar nazi, I just thought it was a bit ironic, considering the topic ;)

Middle school I had a math teacher who played EverQuest II so I struck up a deal with him. I would level his character during class time and he would excuse me from all homework, tests, projects, and give me full credit for everything that I missed. Did it fuck me up in math? Yes, greatly. Did I care? Not at all.

Generally it doesn't matter to me if I have a teacher who can't teach for shit or the best teacher in the world, I usually get things on my own better or just going at my pace. I have done it like this every year through grades 1-12 and now doing it in college too is even easier. If your teacher is a moron, then sit back and enjoy ridiculing them or if you are nice, try helping them out.

My school went under construction, and we got some crappy interns who took over grade 12 classes for a short time (honestly... give them fucking grade 10 classes), but other than that my highschool experience was amazing. I made lots of friends, and in retrospect I didn't really learn as much from school as I did from searching around for information by myself.

Stuff like this was why I start self-education in high school, basically I just used the internet and my school's textbooks and taught myself. Worked out pretty well I think, you have to have the right mindset for it though. Even my school's textbooks were bad though, I mean, sure, I live in Canada, but that does not make it right to have your American History textbooks end in the Reagan era (I shit you not, this was in the early 2000s).

ehh, i like them ok. most the kids complain about them but i just think they are whiny bitches who need to do some work.

so what if the teacher is passive aggressive all the time? who cares if one only speaks in monotone? who cares if one sends you to the back of the class (no kidding. junior year of high school) if you annoy him? suck it the fuck up! just don't get on there bad sides. it's not that hard, people. maybe you guys would realize that if you put down your damn bongs and stopped fucking complaining all the time! /rant
These were my thoughts in junior high, but this situation is just so fucking terrible I'm honestly a bit fed up.

The guidance counselors here in Sioux Falls are INCREDIBLY condescending. God I wish I was back in Wisconsin.
Plus, I have to take an entire class just because South Dakota doesn't teach Composition throughout the curriculum, it teaches it in high school as it's own class. Being from Wisconsin, I had done all the work the class would have required me to do several times over, but they weren't going to take that, so they screwed me over for a half credit.

My freshman English teacher spoke English as a second language. Her primary was Spanish(Argentinian). When I say "spoke", I mean "murdered".

I too had an awful physics teacher. I think it was his second year teaching. Every single person in the class failed his tests but since the class was weighted and tests were worth barely anything. For the midterm and the final, he gave each person a crapton of extra credit points so everyone would pass.

First year in middle school we had really good teacher for economy but sadly, she died. I think that everyone who was ever learning economy understands how importnant it is to have a teacher that doesnt make it very boring. Teacher who we got after that was pretty much "meh" but looks like this year we got decent one again.
