This Vita hate train is getting ridiculous.

I don't hate the Vita. In fact, I actually want the thing to succeed. Not necessarily dominate, but at last act as a more stable competitor just to make the handheld market more diverse. Sure there's iOS, but I find that there hasn't been that much to write home about as there was say last year.

I don't have one myself though. I wouldn't mind getting one, but it's only now that I'm even considering on saving money for the system.

I don't know though if the system as it stands "fails" as it were. To me, a system fails if support for it just drops considerably, if not completely. I don't see that happening to soon with the Vita. Could it be a disappointment? Quite possibly. It's not like the PSP at this time relatively, but there are elements there that can suggest a similar path, and this is coming from someone who actively enjoys their PSP.

PS Vita has no games. This is why.
Persona 4:Golden, Playstation All Stars, Soul Sacrifice, Little Big Planet Vita, Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Escape Plan, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Sound Shapes, Thomas Was Alone. Soon to add Muramasa Rebirth (6/25), Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate (10/25), Killzone Mercenary (9/17), Tear Away (10/22), Dragon's Crown (8/6).

Honestly, the 3DS had less for me before this year. All I am interested on the 3DS is Super Mario 3D Land, Fire Emblem, Castlevania, Monster Hunter 3, Luigi's Mansion, Project X, Pokemon and Animal Crossings. The 3DS has more games, but they both have about the same number of quality games that are worth paying for.

I agree that the Vita's price is steep, and I'm surprised there hasn't been a price drop yet considering there's already been several in Japan. Then again, at $300 you get a year of playstation+ as well, giving you access to Gravity Rush, and Uncharted right out of the gate and several other games on vita and ps3 with new free games every week.

No one has ever really managed to beat Nintendo in the handheld race. But a lot of people say that handhelds will be made obsolete by handheld gaming. And I really want the Vita to do well because of this, but as for not buying one, I can't really be bothered to invest in one when I get a lot of enjoyment out of my 3DS anyway. It's also quite expensive, it actually shares a lot of similar problems that the 3DS had in its early days, but Nintendo turned that around with a price cut and a lot of 1st and 3rd party exclusives. Sony just needs to do the same thing, because it really doesn't seem like they care about the Vita and they aren't actually trying hard enough to pick it up off the ground. But despite this, earlier this year, it outsold both the 3DS and Wii U in Japan, but I think that the tables have turned back since the release of Monster Hunter 3, Fire Emblem: Awakening and Luigi's Mansion 2. Vita really has to get some sales back because the 3DS will soon have Pokémon X & Y to give itself a colossal sales boost...

But I really want Vita to do well when all is said and done, I might even get one if they lower the price and release some more games that interest me.

Actually, just noticed that Sony dropped the price of the 3g version of the Vita by $100 USD back in march. Unfortunately the one people are probably interested in is the WiFi version, since the 3G version is still stuck with one specific company choice.

I see it as the same boat that the WiiU is in, except even slower. While the selection of games has increased, they aren't all that great. A few are, but that's hardly worth the price at this point. While I REALLY want one, I just don't have the money to spend on something I might use a little. And as far as I know, there aren't many ways to emulate on it either. My PSP emulates almost all Gameboy systems, as well as older game consoles, so I can't even say I'll get use out of it that way.

Hate train? Nope. There was two threads about Vita in the past few days. One was a poll asking if it was worth a purchase, and there were plenty of positive comments.
I think it was mine. I did get a lot of positive comments, although I was also fishing for the negatives in terms of usability, content managing and personal concerns.

I have learnt the easy way to not hate any form of gaming platform, but from what I have read there is reason to detest Sony

1: Strong armed into updating. No update, no game for you. Come on, I paid for it. How many more hoops do you want me to jump through to prove my loyalty? I can understand patches to stabilize game play and the Vita system, but at least give me the option to be an idiot and not update.
2: Content manager is required just to move my movies and pictures. I appreciate the idea behind the program but to be honest what I don't know scares me. And there is a lot I don't know about the program, which requires me to be on the internet. Why must I use it to backup my savedata too? Which leads to 3....
3: ...in which any form of a lockdown, be it tech or physical stuff, is to me not a very healthy sign.
4: I want to play my PSP games on the Vita but it looks like I have to buy them again on the PSN.

TB;DR I love the Vita. I got to try my friends' and I am very tempted to buy it. But that does not stop me from disliking Sony.

I actually like the Vita.

The 3D on the 3DS hurts my eyes (I know you can turn it off but why would you buy the 3DS without using the 3D?), the shape of the device hurts my hands, and the tiny screen on the normal version is just awful. On top of that, the games don't look too great graphically. The only choice that won't break my fingers and make my eyes bleed is the Vita. The second the price on the device and proprietary memory sticks(WHHYYYYY?) fall I'm getting it.

Also, dissing the console/PC/graphics card that you didn't get has been happening since...forever. It's part of the hobby.

Maybe we should all just ride this out, the Vita isn't going anywhere and people are gonna hate on the Vita just like people are gonna be hate on anything else, this really doesn't solve anything... I mean, those interested in the Vita should definitely keep their eyes out for upcoming titles and be looking at current ones, or look for any time the Vita is a bit cheaper and snag it if they're interested and have the money. And those who think it will die off... Well, let them continue to have their opinions, if they prefer the 3DS so what? Those Vita owners generally love the system, I know I do.

I know I gave my two cents already, thus making that post a bit... Well, irrelevant but, after reading all posts on the second page and most posts on the first, this topic really isn't... Well gonna matter. Sorry to be a bummer or something if I am.

I bought a Vita day one. It was the first console that I had ever bought on day one as I am usually a generation behind everyone else. N64, gamecube, playstation etc. But Vita was my first day one console. I regret it, very very much. I got Dynasty Warriors NEXT on it, which I adored. I love DW and custom heroes, and I played that for endless hours. Wang Yi <3

But the lack of other games annoyed me greatly. The PSX games took a long time to be released and the Uncharted game was way too gimmicky for me to properly enjoy it. Hated the interruptions. So I waited, and nothing came out. So I sold it. And then the 3DS started getting a lot of games and I am enjoying that system. I don't hate the Vita by any means - but I hate that my first day one purchase of a console was rockier than the Aussie outback.

I just wish it had gone better. I wasn't patient enough to wait long so I sold it and invested it in some new games and enjoyed those greatly.

Well for me personally the Vita just leaves me cold, much like the PSP did. The only games Vita's getting that are worth a look are almost all PSN titles that are also available on PS3. Which harks back to the fundamental problem with Sony's handhelds; they offer nothing but the ability to play games that would be better on Sony's home consoles. Which essentially renders their existence pointless.

The one Vita-only game that interests me is Tearaway, which is more due to the calibre of its developer than the game itself.

Why is it that everyone thinks the Vita is going to fail? Does it kill for anyone to be optimistic for once? Of course the Vita has issues separate memory unit and the price but overall the Vita has been getting great games and has been selling systems. But people are so fixated on it failing, every console has a rocky start you can't expect every portable system to fly off the shells at its release.
What great games does it have? I have one and the games Ive bought for it include Persona 3 and 4, Silent hill: Book of memories, and recently soul sacrifice. Thats it. An argument could be made for walking dead (which I already own on PC) and for Thomas was alone (which I already have on PC) but thats as far as Im going to go

The problem with the Vita has always been its lack of great games and it continues to be the Vita's biggest problem. That is changing but its changing quite slowly because developers dont want to put games on it because they dont sell. Paradoxically there arent many good games on it so people dont want to buy it.

Thats not hate for the Vita its just the reality. For what it does I quite like my Vita but the problem is still there. A lack of great games to make the purchase feel worthwhile. IMO right now the vita has failed to sell but its because of so few games
LittleBigPlanet
Uncharted
Gravity Rush
Sonic All-Stars Transformed
Knytt Underground
Thomas Was Alone
WipeOut 2048
WipeOut HD Fury (as DLC for 2048)
Persona 4 (not personally for me, but I see where its fans are coming from)
Jet Set Radio
Street Fighter X Tekken (hopefully they'll put Tekken X Street Fighter on the Vita as well)

And that's simply named off of the top of my very hungover head

Currently in production:
Lone Survivor
Stealth Bastard
Spelunky
Killzone Mercenary
Tearaway
Whatever I decide to make now that PSM publiding is free ;)

I agree that the hate is very misplaced, the 3DS deserves it more for being closed off and being a carrier for the continued Nintendo copy-pasting and for their STUPID business methods (3DS XL without a charger? Fucking 'tards)

...and that is a hate train how? We'll have to degrade 'hate' to 'dislike' or 'am impartial to' and use a word like 'loathe' or 'despise' in place of 'hate' to convey our emotions soon enough. -_-
Soon enough? You must be new to the internet. People have been using 'hate' to describe 'mild dislike' or 'slight indifference' for years, on both ends. People overstate how much other people don't like something, but people also overblow how much they themselves don't like something.

(Not talking about you specifically) And if you consider all of the people complaining about the Wii U a 'hate train', then surely you could consider the same for the Vita since it doesn't even have a Vita version of the Nintendo Defense Force to roll into threads talking up how great it is. Comments about how it "has no games" still outnumber everything else five to one. It's fine if it doesn't have anything that interests you or if you already own original versions of ports, but that doesn't change the fact that other people might not.

Saying it "has no games" when I've got BlazBlue Continuum Shift EXTEND, Persona 4 Golden, Gravity Rush, Playstation All-Stars, LittleBigPlanet Vita, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, Ragnarok Odyssey, Persona 3 Portable, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VII, Disgaea 1-3, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and soon to be Wipeout, Soul Sacrifice, Dragon's Crown, and Muramasa Rebirth just smacks of moving goal posts.

Why should it matter that I already own a physical copy of Final Fantasy IX and a working PS1? It's $10 to get it completely portable, upscaled to a cleaner resolution and fully playable in the palm of my hand whenever I want with all of the functionality of the Vita around it. Maybe I prefer how quick and convenient the system itself is for all of those games I could also have on the PS3, like say fighting games. Because I can just jump in, enjoy a match or two, and then stop whenever I feel like playing. Maybe being able to get the entire Disgaea franchise (outside of 4, which I hope gets ported eventually) on one easy platform is a huge plus. And I find it really hard to believe there isn't anything on the PS1/PSP game lists that people haven't bought before and wouldn't be interested in. Or if a game is good enough, why should it matter to buy it again? Ten bucks for Final Fantasy IX is practically a steal.

Yeah, the entry price for the system is still crazy-high especially with memory cards, hopefully Sony can rectify that. But it's paying itself back in the games department.

Zero Escape isn't exclusive.

I think what people mean by "no great games" is "there aren't any games that warrant the price, for me." Which is the case for myself. Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice look good, but I have Persona and Zero Escape on other systems and the rest of those games don't interest me.

I don't want it to fail, I just don't want one. Until it hits a price point I find reasonable or gets enough games I want to justify it's price I'm not going to buy one. I believe that this is the attitude of a lot of people.

The majority of those titles are multiplatform games already available or soon-to-be released on platforms people already own. That's not how you tempt people to buy your $250 handheld. When you're trying to get people to stump up that sort of cash, you need to give them every last reason you can think of to pick it up. Marketing on the fact it can play many of your PS3 games is not the way to go about it. The Vita doesn't just need a couple of exclusives, it needs enough exclusives to validate its existence as a console in its own right, not just as an add-on to whatever console Sony is currently marketing.

Seriously? Nintendo are putting out exclusives every month until next year, have seen sales skyrocket as a result, and you think they're the ones in trouble?

The internet can be such a weird place sometimes...
I think your defense is solid and everything towards your opinion... But I think you should also list these exclusives you say the 3DS has, I'm kinda interested as a non-3DS owner but a Vita owner.

See I'm sorta thinking about getting a Vita but I honestly can't really justify it. I got Persona 4 on the PS2 and fell in love HARD with it and am desperate to play Golden, which is obviously a Vita exclusive, so I'm tempted to try and pick up a second hand Vita somewhere. However, I'm not sure I can justify spending £100 (which is what I've found thereabouts second hand) for a single game, so would anyone like to recommend me some games for the Vita? I like RPGs mostly with great stories, but I'm pretty much into any game with a good story.

I have to be honest, I never actively looked for any information on any portable console, neither do I own one.
Yet, I still know some 3DS games and know what the 3DS can do.
About the Vita, I literally have no idea about anything. What games does it have? What hardware? Why should I care? I don't know anyone who has one.

I guess it's just a severe case of the Penguin Effect.
