Thoughts on the Gears of war 3 Ending (spoilers so many you will drown in them)

I thought the ending was great. The final boss battle was briliant and the game in general as amazing. To me it's the quintessential action game. This is a big Arnold type video game.

Yes the ending leaves tons of questions. Where did locust come from? Are they really humans that were warped by the lambency? Who is myrrah? Was she human before? Is she Ruth?

I think a lot of these questions will be answered in future games. I'm sure we'll get a pendullum wars game and at least a couple more games.

What has been answered is that we will not get any more Delta Squad games. So no more Marcus, Dom, Baird and on.

Btw if you really want to know more about the Gears world read the books or search online. There's a great breakdwon on the epic forum.

btw Ts what difficulty did you play the end boss on? you made it sound quite simple so I'm assuming you didn't play on hardcore or insane because I found it quite difficult. Especially later in the fight when swarms of locus show up.

Clayton Survived AND had one of the coolest moments ever for me.

That alone was a great ending for Gears of war 3 to me.

I can agree with that. I did feel like some things were left out.

I think the most important thing they left out is the origin of the locust. After the whole big deal with those locust/human monsters in the second one (I can remember the name now). I was curious to see are the locust born or created or what. I was also curious as to why the queen was human looking.
That pretty much sums up what I thought. I had this big plot twist lined up in my head - The locust Queen is Marcus's mum. But alas no. Shame, but It was never particularly likely :p

To be honest, I haven't solo'd insane yet, but I easily waltzed through that fight on Hardcore on my first playthrough. I did think it was more epic than the OP said though.

Just finished it a couple of hours ago, and I was satisfied. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff left unanswered, but I expected that the moment Cliffy B officially announced they'd make more GoW games after the Delta Squad trilogy. I'm a sucker for happy endings, and that's what I got from the game (on top of it being entertaining to play, as always); yeah, some important folks died along the way, but without those deaths the game(s) would have been poorer for it.
Also, I didn't follow all the pre-release buzz, so seeing the last of the Carmines actually survive was a very welcome suprise. :)

I was playing on hardcore on my own got Downed a few times and killed once but that was mainly because i wasnt sure what i was supposed to be doing.

When i figured how to fight the queen it took a while but i brought her down without any major threat to my life.

Couldn't agree more.

It was a kind of mixed ending though with Marcus understandably despondent given what he's been through, but all the other characters optimistic and relieved.

I cheered when Jack made it's triumphant return. I thought it would appear given Baird's comment early on about it needing a bit of a tweaking. I love that little guy.

I'm not going to lie: The more I think about the ending, the more annoyed I am with it. As someone who poured over the games' intel and read all the books, the conclusion to this part of the Gears universe was a complete let down. Gears 2 and the books were all hinting at a MAJOR conspiracy, something that would completely rewrite the way everyone looked at the world. The COG created the Locust. The COG created the Lambent. Prescott was working with the Locust Queen. SOMETHING! All the books and the games felt like there was one key piece of information that was missing that, when revealed, would make everything make sense. Instead, we get a basic answer: The Lambent is a parasite. Really? We knew that from Gears 2. The Queen even told us! So now, we're left with unanswered questions all around.

What did the Sires have to do with anything? Why were they going to Mount Kadar? Why did the Locust attack, instead of just asking for help? Why was Marcus' dad kidnapped? What was Prescott afraid of? What's on the disk that Adam gave Baird? Why does the Queen look like a human? Why is the Lambent just now starting to effect everyone? Why were the Locust taking prisoners? Why, if they are taking prisoners, did the slaughter the smartest people in the world when they found them? What were the scientists doing there in the first place? Why DID Prescott choose to stay with the COG and not on the island? How did Adam meet the Locust? Why did the Queen kill him? The list goes on...
I know some of these can be answered by speculation, but after building up to something so big, only to get, "Locust Queen is a *****, Lambent is a bad rash," seems like a complete and utter let down.

Very well put, sir. While I wouldn't say the whole thing was a complete let down (Damn it all, I still had fun), I too was thinking many of those questions.

What annoyed me the most though was the questions they posed in the games but answered in the expanded universe. What about those who don't have the time to trawl through the books and comics? How did Dizzy survive the attack on Skorge? Who the hell are these new Aussie characters and why should I care about them? (I'll let Jace off, he was at least mentioned in Gears 2).

I know I can get all these answers by trawling through the Gears wiki, but I think it's poor that I was expected to know more than was presented in the previous games to fully understand what had happened.

...Seriously, would've much preferred taking Carmine along for every part of the game where I was stuck with Sam instead. They even handled Tai in the previous game better - at least he got a minor introduction, but Sam and Bernie just showed up and I was expected to play along.

Edit: As earlier put, Lambent Queen would've been an excellent final boss fight - not that I was disappointed with the Tempest, as it were. And if Epic had said the Locust were human, or something along those lines, I would've been sickened at such an overdone plot 'twist.' Imulsion = parasite was better.

I enjoyed the game but I felt robbed of an ending. I have so unbelievably enjoyed these games and that ending was such a let down.

Marcus Fenix has spent most of his life fightings wars. He has seen his father die (twice, sort of), two brother-like friends die, two Carmines die. He has fought humans, monsters, super monsters, explosive monsters, zombies, massive spiders, on top of a Brumak, in a field of ash-people, underground, on a train, on two boats, on a flying monster and inside a giant worm.
This is a man who was meant to die in battle. Can you imagine him raising a family?
And the advertising, for goodness sake. Brothers to the Last Fight, Brothers to the Last Enemy, Brothers to the Last Hour, Brothers to the Last Bullet, Brothers to the Last Breath, Brothers to the Last Hope, Brothers to the End.
BROTHERS TO THE END. And they survive.

I wanted a hopeless last stand and I got a war hero whose dad has just died (AGAIN) sulking on a beach.
I have invested days in these games and this is what I get? What a joke.

Yeah, apparently that meant to the end of the trilogy and we all just didn't get the memo.
Anyway. I felt the ending was... an ending. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was just and ending. I don't really go for the magical kill-all-bad-things button that too many series have used. And that scene on the beach, I tried to feel something, I REALLY did, I read so much into the line "what's left?" Here's Marcus Fenix at the end of the war. He's lost Dom, his father, and countless other Gears that have fallen in battle. Battles in a war that he has spent nearly his whole life fighting. The line "what's left?" is a small line that holds a lot of weight, but I just didn't feel anything. I honestly did feel sad But I guess I'm content with what we got.
Although, I wanted Clayton to die. I REALLY wanted Carmine to die. And I think it would have been more enjoyable to kill the queen ourselves. No big thing, she's just standing there weak and defeated with a prompt on the screen saying "RT" and then go into the cutscene. But this is just me.
