Thoughts on the sexualization of the new Fatal Frame?

Finally a good reason to own the Wii U.

I won't buy it just for Fatal Frame, but a few more like this and I'll pick it up.

I've got all the best H scenes from Fatal Frame off Youtube already. Great stuff!

I know everyone on this site turns into a puritan as soon as things like jiggle physics and boobs are mentioned but COME ON! The boobs those physics are acting on aren't exactly melons, and you won't be seeing the perky bounce bit at the end ever anyway, as you will be viewing the character model from behind. Unless you intend to play the game seeing only where you've been and not where you are going.

If she had arse bounce physics when she stopped or farted or something, then maybe that would've have been going too far.
Man, I'm a porn enthusiast. I love boobs. But when boobs jerk around like they've slapped around when in reality someone just took a few steps....that's just dumb. Besides, this is supposed to be a freaking horror game. I imagine it's going to be a little hard feeling scared for your life when you have to turn around and get distracted by the main character's boobs jerking all over the place. I'm not even bringing the treatment of women into this mess, I'm simply saying it's immersion breaking.

Her boobs are way to small to be moving that much. Like maybe if she was running fast and then stopped suddenly. But not after taking a few steps. Hell, properly supported large boobs don't move that much after taking a few steps.

It's icky. Pure, stalwart, undeniable squickyness. It makes me squick like a schoolgirl who's just seen a really big spider in the bathroom.

Those breast physics are pretty damn funny, though. I mean, breasts don't even move like that. It's like they're sacks of fat that an 11 year old has padded her bra with. It's hilarious in its failure in emulation of the mammaries of homo sapiens.

Even so, I love Fatal Frame, girly runs and overly sexy outfits aside, and I really want this to be localised.

The jiggle physics? Oh, come on! At least not in a serious game. In a completely not going to touch the sexism of it(because it's a bit obvious) I'll focus on the tone. How the fuck would this add to the tone of the game? So when she gets startled first she jumps then her breasts bounce a half a dozen times? The only way I can see it working is if they pull a Spec Ops. First you need to establish the trope(senseless fanservice) before you tear it in half cackling like a mad man.

That did make me think that the male equivalent of this is floppy dong physics and we've only had that once in an extremely silly game, Mount your Friends. If there are more examples, please keep them to yourself.
That's not equivalent at all. Breasts are a secondary sexual characteristic, penis is primary. It would be something like flowing beard physics.
Oh my god. I want flowing beard physics so bad right now. Glorious!

Anyway, I didn't think the second picture was too bad, at least from what we saw. The first one, though, wow, no thank you. As for jiggle physics in a horror game, why? That's actually rather distracting. Can we play as an old woman with a purse and a polaroid instead? Now THAT would be innovative.

I just hope this one, unlike FF4, actually gets localized to NA.

I actually really like the new outfit, not so much that bonus one though. But even that one is hardly a stretch from the ones in previous games. They had french maid outfits and I think other bikinis too in the 2nd or 3rd game. The original didn't really have any of this that I can remember, so if anything your argument would have been better stated like 12 years ago when the 2nd game came out.

I watched a video on screwattack of the first 30 minutes of the game. It looked awesome!

I don't have a Wii U, due to no money/I barely even touched my wii (giggidy).

My friend, she would have breast AND beard physics. She would also have a school girl outfit and a magical girl costume with a little wand. Mr. Frederickson would be paid DLC of course.

Or better yet, you could just play as a floating pair of breasts. Cut out the fat. A floating pair of bosoms with a floating gun/camera. We know what the audience wants.

Leave it to the western gaming communities to overreact when it's just an extra costume only obtainable after beating the game. Have you ever seen the ones in Fatal Frame 2? yet no one cares about it.

These things has been a Fatal Frame since the 2nd game... >_>

Hasn't fatal frame had weird fan-service even though the game is horror before? I think it's gross but whatever. Since you mostly see her from behind it should be fairly easy to ignore unless they are blatant in cut scenes. I can't believe they actually bothered making clothing go see thru in the rain.

I don't see a problem. They do that in real life, you know.

Why should characters be plastic barbie dolls that have no physics?

As Arnold says, SHTOP VINING!
Lol no. Your tits don't jiggle like their trying tear themselves off your chest when you stop moving after taking a few steps. Maybe that's it! Her tits are just really scared and trying to get away.

The sexualization of the characters is actually something that's been around in the games since the start, so I'm not sure it's changing the feel of the game for the sake of appealing to an audience it didn't have.

Those jiggle physics definitely aren't DOA levels. DOA jiggle you don't have to look for, it's so unnatural and exaggerated that it draws attention to itself. This bounce, though unnatural because of how much of a snap back it is, is subtle enough that I wouldn't know it was there if I wasn't actively looking for it.

I can't even imagine how you'd react to all the creepy incest stuff which is as much a series trademark as the ghost camera. It's definitely odd though considering this is the player character, the person you're supposed to identify with and I don't think you're meant to feel objectified as they are. You're meant to feel weak in these situations, even in the third (or maybe it was fourth) game where you have times playing a middle aged man, but not like an object of desire.

All in all I'd have to say it's pretty racist.

Why do white men think it's okay to objectify not only their own women, but women of color as well? Can the white men developing this game not take women of other races serious enough to not make them whip out their boobies and butts? Sickening.
This has to be just lazy trolling, right? Or am I witnessing Poe's law?

Anyway, white men being behind all this creepy fanservice is quite the accomplishment considering no white man whatsoever is on the Japanese development team of this Japanese game that hasn't been released outside of Japan. And just in case there's any confusion, Japanese people aren't white. That's pretty prejudiced to assume anything resembling sexism can only be committed by white men.
Look at the name and post number. Don't bother arguing with them.

An outfit going partially see-through in the rain, especially a thin white shirt, seems less sexualization and more an example of graphical fidelity and realism...or am I just missing the point here?

As far as sexualization goes, this is pretty tame, I find. The rain making the clothes see-through? While I don't understand why that of all things has to be realistic, it is something that happens in real life. The jiggle physics are incredibly silly, yes, but I probably wouldn't even notice it if I played the game myself.

That's just what I think, though. I can see why someone would find this off-putting. Just because I don't see a problem with it doesn't mean that it isn't a problem, after all.

I don't think the jiggle physics are too bad. As others have mentioned it's not like their DOA-level jiggle (I'm glad I got Ultimate because it looked fine on some characters but on most it just looked really, really weird).

Haunting Ground is one of my favourite games and I didn't actually notice the jiggle until someone pointed it out to me. Then I just kept turning Fiona really quickly because it was amusing. Then I stopped because a stalker showed up and it's never a good idea to use the same hiding place multiple times.

Personally I'm more impressed with the rain and water effects. I hope this gets localised though I doubt it will because the previous game didn't and it's on the WiiU. Stupid region locks.

I heard Ayane from DOA is supposed to show up in this game but I wonder how that's going to work. Also: underwear as a bonus outfit whilst running from ghosts? I find it hilariously stupid but didn't the previous games have similar costumes anyway?

Never actually played a Fatal Frame game. Be nice if it came to PC.

The fanservice stuff, I'm sure I'd giggle a bit, but I'm sure I'd get used to it. It's not like sex appeal is anything special.

Believe it or not I didn't notice the jiggle until it was pointed out to me.

Also if you're gonna be looking at the character's boobs while a ghost is after her you need to change your priorities.

I used to play them on the PS2, but from what I've heard (and has happened) the series is now a Nintendo exclusive pretty much. Doesn't bother me of course as I have multiple platforms, but its unfortunate for some people.

It actually took me some time to see this jiggle. I know GIFs aren't meant to be SUPER AWESOME quality 3000 but the "Jiggle" seems like a small bounce with a jumpy as fuck framerate since the background and the rest of her seem to jump suddenly also. Probably just my PC needing a format though.

I didn't notice until someone mentioned it, and I had to look more than casually to actually see it.

But so what? Sexualization doesn't take away from a fictional character's abilities. I'm not a fan of the series myself, but everyone enjoys their fanservice somewhere, let them enjoy the slightest of boobwiggle.

Yes, but recenty certian types of people have entered the gaming community and started shaming everyone over sex appeal of fictional characters in some games in their choice of escapism and have people walking on eggshells and being super conservative.

Meh, seems kind of tame by other games standards. Out of place sure but not too bad.

The weirdest example of this kind of stuff had to be Dragon's Dogma. I liked the game quite a bit, but some of the fanservice-y bit (for lack of a better word) really stuck out. Playing through the game, most of the armor is really evenly balanced in terms of gender. Sure there are some sexy outfits in there (including a thong with garbage stats), but frankly they aren't too bad. Hell some even give bare midriffs to men, so there is that. However, inexplicably the best chest clothing in the game (aside from the abyssinnal outfit which is a ***** to get and Dark Arisen armor) the silver chestplate turns into a bikini with full on jiggle physics. I mean sure there are corsets and stuff in the game, but the only bikini-like piece of clothing in the game looks like a completely functional chestplate on a guy and is probably the best piece in that armor category. It just struck me as so... odd.
