I thought the whole angle 'war at home' angle alone was really interesting (and well conveyed by the trailer), but now that I hear that THQ claim they'll make the gameplay fresh as well...

I'm suddenly very interested in this game.

I hate how Japan always loses in all WW3 theories. Anyway it looks good but I would prefer FPS from south Europe.
Japan always did fail as a military power especially after WW2 if you haven't noticed... especially them having no nukes. They do have anime though so i guess that counts for something :D

OT: I'm still kinda tired of americans being the good guys....

ok!

we were are WW2 then moving on to the Cold war now we are at North Korea...would Afagistan/Iraq be the next mainstream enemies?

WW2>Cold war>North Korea

EDIT:
I suppose I've got an Idea, how about the Icelanders?

1.there are unknown for military supremacy
2.not in the middle east or asia
3.they might be semi fascist (some people claim on the Escapist forums that it seems like it)

no racism intended

Ehhhhh...

I like what this guy is saying.

But really, once you've constructed an entire narrative based around Americans playing the underdog defenders up against an invading army of Koreans, you've already surpassed my tolerance for jingoism.

It's simple: The US is the more visible target for people's ire. And if they don't notice or care to notice something, then it doesn't matter to them. Let's face it, nobody really cares about how horrible North Korea is, but everyone has something to say about "Those American jerks." People are self-centered and self-righteous in equal measure, and that's not going to change anytime soon.
Oh man, it's so cool to see someone reasonable here. I'm not too happy because the notion of "humans are bastards" was reinforced yet again, but it's good that not everyone is like that, at least.

Then again, America gets invaded by communists every other week. You'd think there'd be some other shooty-game-idea floating around in the ether, waiting for someone to stumble onto it in the midst of a drunken haze in the shadows of the great dark development cycle.
Yeah, i agree one-hundred percent. Perhaps they could make an FPS about an interstellar police force (think Mass Effect, but with less Cthulhus), or a steampunk shooter where you engage in the magic-versus-technology war (in which case your victory would be justified, too!)

..."steroided-out, super-soldier" in MW2? LOL, I died too many times in MW2 to ever feel steroided out or super-soldier-ish.

As much as the statements sounded like "This is why our game will be good" they also had tones of mudslinging or 'insulting the other guy to make yourself look better'. The gameplay will speak for itself, for better or worse.

the steampunk shooter exists. look up arcanum. its an WRPG but it fits the bill. you want interstellar police force? look up X-com. its like space police but they whoop the asses of any alien who tries to take earth over.
I've heard about them, even tried to play Arcanum, and i have a few problems with those. First, when i said "interstellar police", i've implied that you would have alien allies. No such thing in X-Com, i assume. Secondly, Arcanum is a classic RPG and X-Com is a tactical game (with management elements if i'm not mistaken) - both genres a bit convoluted for me. And last (in this case also least) - the graphics are pretty dated even for my tastes. So sorry.

And i was talking about the implementation of those ideas in FPS, anyway.

wow. i didnt expect to run into someone who puts graphics above gameplay on the escapist. i expect that from gamespot, but not here.
I usually don't. I like RA2's pixel art, for example. But the gameplay of those dosen't appeal to me, that's what matters. And come on, it's 2010! Rendering things like sprawling Panau islands of Just Cause 2 and Ratchet's fur are about par for the course now, and you suggest i should be in love with Arcanum's brown, blurry picture? Everything has it's limits.

Short version: i'm not a drooling "mainstream idiot" as you might have thought, i just like to keep up with the times and not be stuck in the past.

Well, you've already mentioned Arcanum (It's Fallout with dwarves, and yet more insane difficulty).

Also, G-police. They're not really interstellar, but they are in space.
Plus, they're a police force that pretty much always uses space-apache gunships.
And then in the sequel, they're a police force that fights off the earth military.

brown? thats like the pot calling the kettle black. everything today is brown, dirt covered , and set in iraq or some other country.
Yeah. Everything i don't play. Do me a favor: search for the screenshots of the aforementioned Just Cause 2, then come back here and tell me to my face that it's "brown".

I also like how you picked the flimsiest and least important of my problems with Arcanum, and attacked me for it while disregarding a simple fact: this is NOT my kind of game.

The trailer is virtually a re-worded copy of the into sequence for Op Flash, Dragon Rising...

Relevant in real-life to the backstory of this game: The Crisis of Middle-Class America by the Financial Times. [http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/1a8a5cb2-9ab2-11df-87e6-00144feab49a.html] It's an interesting (if somewhat depressing) read in its own right, but it also ties in quite nicely with the future of the US as suggested by this game. It's an extreme vision but not necessarily completely beyond the realm of possibility.

And Freedom Fighters fucking rocked.
