I thought that game was released in 1999.

EDIT: OT: Probably San Andreas or Legend of Disgaea.

2000: Pokemon Gold/Silver
2001: Silent Hill 2
2002: Warcraft III
2003: Jak II
2004: Half Life 2
2005: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
2006: Bully
2007: The Orange Box if I'm allowed, Bioshock if I'm not
2008: Left 4 Dead
2009: Prototype

I'd say Half Life 2 is the game of the decade, but to avoid being written off as a VALVe fanboy (because these days its a crime to be a fan of something too many other people are also a fan of) I'll give the honor to Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. Because I'm an Oddworld Inhabitants fanboy and I still play Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus aaaaall the time.

2001: Tropico
Tropico is an awesome game! I love it! Im looking forward to Tropico 3 in October (16th)
I'm extremely skeptical on Tropico 3, because Haemimont Games is developing it, and they couldn't make a good game if you put a gun to their heads. The wretched Glory of the Roman Empire and Imperium Romanum were Haemimont-developed games.

If Phil Steinmeyer (who did Railroad Tycoon 2 and the original Tropico and has since moved on to doing casual games) were involved I'd be more hyped up about it, but Haemimont's track record is gods-awful. I still own Tropico (and it runs fine on Windows 7), so I'll just play that.
I liked glory of the roman empire :/ But thats just me I guess, and my Tropico got broken, then my brother got punched in the face, its been bad because I've really been craving to play.
Steam's got Tropico with its Paradise Island expansion plus Tropico 2: Pirate Cove in the "Tropico Reloaded" pack for $14.99. Worth every cent if your old discs are no longer workable. As for GotRE, I tend to have higher standards for city-builders since I've been playing them since SimCity Classic (on the SNES, believe it or not the best version of the first SimCity.)

You're giving Game of the Decade to an expansion pack? Really? Is that your final answer?

I think that Civ 4>Hearts of Iron 2 in your list. Civ4 made me play Civilization, which was very odd cause I disliked alot the series. HoI2 while an awesome game didn't add much from HoI.

2000: Diablo 2 (Simply to fucking awesome)
2001: Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction (Cause it kept being to damn awesome!)
2002: Warcraft 3 (Need I explain?)
2003: Jak II
2004: Half Life 2 (Runner up being Rome Total War)
2005: Civilization 4
2006: The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion(It sucked balls but I can't recall playing anything better)
2007: Orange Box
2008: Left 4 Dead
2009: Plants vs. Zombies(!)

Of the decade? Diablo 2. Why? Cause I lost half of the decade playing it.

First released for the N64 on June 30th, 1998, so I'd say this one doesn't count...?
Other than that I agree with you, one of my favorite titles of all time. ^^

I spent just about all of 2005 (when I wasn't playing Rome and its expansion) playing HoI2, but I am also pretty well-known as probably THE biggest Paradox fanboy on these forums, so take that for what it's worth. HoI2 comes in at #8 on my all-time best games list; Civ4 ranks 12th.

2001: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
2002: Tekken 4
2003: Soulcalibur II
2004: Halo 2
2005: Tekken 5
2006: Gears of War (Oblvion close third behind DmC3)
2007: Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
2008: Devil may Cry 4
2009: Street Fighter IV

I like fighting games. I would give my game of the decade to Gears of War, although something in me wants to give it to Tekken but I think Gears just beats it. Also, 2006 was a very good year.

these are the ones i played the most and enjoyed the most. not the ones x-play said were great.

2000: Marvel vs Capcom 2
2001: Final Fantasy X
2002: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
2003: Soul Calibur 2
2004: Killzone
2005: Resident Evil 4
2006: Gears of War
2007: Ace Combat 6
2008: Left 4 Dead
2009: so far its Street Fighter IV but i still need to play, Dissidia, ODST, and Modern Warfare 2 before i make my call on 09.

but if i had to make the call for game of the decade right now i'd have to say Resident Evil 4.

Game of the decade for me is Super Mario Galaxy. I had so much fun with that game. MGS2 is a close runner up.

2000: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
2001: Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
2002: Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
2003: tie between C&C Generals: Zero-Hour and Commandos 3: Destination Berlin
2004: Rome: Total War (right there with ya, OP! R:TW rocked my world; I worked on Europa Barbarorum; sorry Dawn of War)
2005: Psychonauts
2006: fucking nothing. I didn't like any 2006 game that much. That year sucked.
2007: Team Fortress 2
2008: GTA IV, beating out Braid and World of Goo
2009: Empire: Total War

Best of the decade? Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, for summing up the single best series that I've had the pleasure of playing. Did everything that a finale should do, and even had me tear up at the end, when closures were presented for the characters. That game was the motherfucking shit.

I can't see any of the remaining 2009 releases dethroning my current favorites, so I'm comfortable with calling my Game of the Decade now.

Game of the Decade: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Expansions
Honorable Mentions: Diablo II, Rock Band, Knights of the Old Republic.

I'll revive this thread once Uncharted 2: Among Theives is released.
