Time is just a measurement. What has happened cannot be changed. To travel back in time you need to reverse every event after the time you go to. An impossible task. But who knows? Technology is still young. There are many things we do not know yet. The invention I hope will be created soon is the Portal Gun.
Mass producing a portal gun would be a bad idea - people would just launch portals at peoples feet. But portal technology could be fun - if it was conrtolled. Knowing my friends they would use it on me in my sleep and take me to horrible places.

and a giant foam room with portal guns would be great!!

i dont know if its been said, but
isnt time just a concept a way in which we measure exsistance, just a name given to time passing.
so in theory time doesnt exsist thus making you unable to travel through it ;)

Because if it WERE, the public would eventually get their hands on it, which means millions of people would have the ability to change history to their will. Now, eventually, some idiot/crazy person/terrorist is going to go back in time to where the first humans were, and kill them, or something along those lines. That would cause a major paradox, seeing as the killer's ancestry line would never exist. So as long as the universe as we know it isn't destroyed, we can be certain that time travel will never be possible, at least for humans.

This isn't the only example to prove my point, there are an infinite amount of possible paradoxes, thanks to the butterfly effect.

Your thoughts on this matter?
Your ideas on time travel are based on a lot of assumptions.

Currently all theoretical time travel 'machines' allow the user(s) to only travel as far back as when the machine was created, this would explain why no one has come back from the future to our time or before.

Of course there is also the possibility that we become so enlightened that there are no more terrorists, fanatics or others wishing to cause harm.

Concerning time travel theory, it is possible that all events are pre-defined and by going back in time the person is actually a factor in the events that lead to where we are now. So while they may try to destroy the primeordial soup they will inevitably fail and it may be their presence that triggers its development.

Another idea is that when things are changed the time traveller simply transfers to a parallel universe or perhaps dimension.

So although we know of no time travellers that doesn't mean that time travel is impossible.

Isnt a guy making a time machine that can take you to any time between the present and the time that the machine was switched on? And if you switch it off and then on again, it would be reset. :D

I heard the guy talking about it a couple fo years ago, it was interesting.
I heard about that, too. I wonder if it's up and running yet...

assuming time travel to the past is possible. (i don't think it is, but oh well)

i think that the most valid theory of reverse time travel is that if you go back in time, you go to an alternate universe. therefore, no matter what you do, you are not going to destroy the present of the initial universe, because you are attacking an alternate universe's future.

this can also be helped along by a simplified explanation of the OP's ideas.

if you were to go back in time, then there would then be more mass, and therefore energy in the past then there was previously. there is only a finite amount of energy in the universe, so by going back in time, you have already changed things by changing the amount of energy in that universe.

If it WERE possible even if someone did kill everyone in the past time travel let him go back so it was created. The people in the future would still be alive.

Just because we don't know what would happen when said paradox occurs doesn't mean that it can't happen. It's beyond our understanding and may be possible - alternate universes?

Greetings from the future!
I have just completed the S-prime class flux deviation from null! It is a true pleasure to converse with the past on such an informal basis. I have come to confirm that it is possible to alter the past, even in minute ways - hopefully the Iclass parameters will allow this alteration and no collapse to the waveform shall be witnessed.

me; if your are reading this - success!

'Time' is a system of measurement created by human beings used to give us a sense of structure to the references/memories in our minds that we call the 'Past' and ideas we call the 'Future'. My point being: the past and future don't exist outside our minds. Therefore, physical time travel is impossible.
This.

I know it's scary, but it's the simplest explanation. "Time", as we choose to define it, is change. But change is simply the motion of energy. If something reached the temperature of absolute zero, it would in essence cease to change in any way, it would be "frozen" in time. But that's not really that big a deal, since as noted above, "time" is just a frame of reference we invented to add structure when talking about abstract ideas. There is no such thing as a physical "future" or "past", therefore time travel is quite impossible.

Quotation marks sure came in handy while making that.

Well, for time travel to work, they'd need a gateway from this time to get through to. IMPOSSIBLE. So we'd need to invent a gateway (or time station, hurr durr) then invent the device to transport back to that one period in time before the device was invented and OH CHRIST MY HEAD HURTS.

Listen people, Time travel is possible, its just hard.

first you need to find a dolorian, then u need a flux capacitor, and lets not forget the 1.21 jiggawatts of electricity we need.

BTW, libian terrorists are not the best source of free plutonium.

Wait, obviously no one will go back in time and kill all humans or something like that because humans are still alive today. It's actually impossible to travel back in time and change the present because the present is what it is because of events in the past.

I'd like that, but seeing as you couldn't do much of anything interesting, it'd be purely for shits and giggles, methinks.

But something like that actually existing...I can't see it happening. Ever.

And if it did, and someone decided to make the world "better" by going back in time and eliminating Hitler...well...it'd turn the USSR into the big bad.

And then C&C would happen.

And that's a bad thing.

If anyone wants to more about time travel I suggest watching the Red Dwarf when they go back in time to buy some vindaloo!
