Does anybody remember when our videogames had nice, large font that was bold and easy to read? It has oocured to me that for games on PS3 and 360 (not so much the Wii, but it happens) the font is super tiny and requires me to sit up closer to the TV to be able to read it. I do wear glasses, but my blindness only occurs when they are off. I certainly hope I'm not the only one. I'm talking about the tiny font problem, not my glasses (to get rid of any confusion).

It's the push for HD. It's damned annoying, it also cuts off a good deal of games from my lovely small TV. It seems I can't play current gen games anymore unless I've got HD or a big TV. I fucking hate the HD push.

I have a 32" HDTV and I still have problems reading some text in games these days. Mass Effect 2 is an especially bad offender. I swear the text up at the top when you select something is tiny.

Seeing as how I have a standard SDTV, this is a problem for me too. I'm looking to get a plasma at some point, but it's just too hard reading some of the text even up close because of my TV's resolution. It was the other day that I actually realized my TV was so low res, I see no difference in games with 2x Anti Aliasing and 4x Anti Aliasing. Worst thing is that I usually cant even read instructions or mission objectives and it messes up my gaming experience as a whole. Feels bad, man.

I can agree with this. I found the codex in Dragon Age to be damn near impossible to read, which was sad because I love that sort of stuff.

I play on an SDTV. Sometimes a game has text made for HD, like Dead Rising. I downloaded that demo, but I couldn't read anything so it felt stupid. For some other games the text is just really small. I wish there was an option to make it bigger/for SD.

More and more games are being made to suit HD tvs, resulting in small text when played on regular tvs. It can get really annoying, really fast.

I agree with this thread in its' fullest...

Being very limited in having cash to burn. I cannot afford a bigger TV screen, and find such a tiny font in video games these days to be damn near impossible to read..

I understand why they do this however.. They do it because of HD televisions...The technology is out there and they wish to boost sales in the spectrum...

The TV I play on is large enough that I'm able to play my PS3 well enough without a problem.. The problem is, when it comes to large amounts of text... Like in Dead Space for example... I cannot read it because there just simply isn't enough pixels to render the text remotely readable... Thus I'm going to have to Wiki it up after I beat the game in order to understand what the hell is going on in terms of storyline...

I really wish they would keep in mind that we're not all capable of burning cash at will... Though I really doubt they will ever see that, because if we're not constantly pushing to use our current technology in its' fullest, what would be the point of making that tech in the first place... -,-;

I have a 32" Bravia hooked up to my PS3 and I have to lean forwards to read the text sometimes. I find it annoying that on my old tv and PS2 I didn't have to lean forwards to read anything even if we were playing 4 player split-screen, but on my tv that is twice the size I have trouble reading something in 1 player.

They could really use an option to expand the text I played ME2 just guessing what I was pressing.(I could see okay if the background was dark though)

Bottomline, gaming is more enjoyable on a big HD TV.

If given the choice between playing on a 12 inch screen or a 42 inch what would you pick?

Most people have decent sized TV's so i really doubt there is some conspiracy to get you out there to buy big tv's but thats where games look the best and thats where everyones developing stuff for.

Unless it is PC and you can probably mod or get a mod for something like that for most games.

Depends. With a lot of them, it's non-trivial to do that, and if a patch/mod even does exist, it often breaks other things. I play on a 24" LCD at 1920x1200 (which I also run my consoles and stuff through, since it has composite, component, and HDMI inputs, too), and I have to lean over closer to the screen to be able to easily make out stuff in some games, especially older ones that were designed with lower resolutions in mind and use small fonts/icons that don't scale up in higher resolutions. On the other hand, Borderlands has HUGE TEXT that I can read easily from halfway across the room, and I actually wish it were smaller so more stuff would fit on the screen.

Really what I'd like is for it to be common/standard to have an option for interface/text size in games, because people play them on different size/quality screens and have better/worse vision than each other. Something that looks great for one person on their screen could be totally unreadable for a different person on a different screen. I'm used to that not being available in console games (even if I'm not happy about it), but it's kind of sad to see it happening less and less often on the PC, too, at least in stuff I've been playing.

I can't afford $400-$500 consols plus games AND HD television. I can't even afford a bigger TV. Or games right now. They're raising tuition! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MEEE??

I had the same problem. Even though I recognized the dialogue pattern [small](Up: good, Middle: neutral, Down: bad)[/small], I still go "Wait! I didn't want to say that!" when I choose something to say.

OT: Like may other people said, they're just pushing HD on us so we could see everything. I also think it's to push voice acting.
