Yeah i recently re-watched it myself, never realized you could stick blood, violence, nudity(Brief and light, but hey), and the destruction of earth 5-minutes in, and stil kepp a PG rating. Love that movie

I've seen this movie two or three times in my life and currently own it on DVD. It's good, but I wouldn't say great. I loved it when it first came out though.

Yeah, just saw it on teletoon too. Good memories.

The first time I saw this movie I was impressed by the CGI of the space debri where they form the new planet ... that bit (although only that bit) looked like it was advanced for its time. I liked the movie as a whole. I dunno why but it feels like a very short movie ...

Meeeeeh.

It came a bit too late for me to romanticise it. I was already a teenager and I remember feeling it was kind of bland and the plot didn't make much sense.

I also vaguely remember it having a pretty cool soundtrack for the time, though.
I agree the plot didn't make sense, by itself that is. I've only read 1 of the books .... Cale's story (before I saw the movie) so that actually helped everything fall into place.

I thought it was great when I was a kid but if I were to rewatch it now, well, I'm pretty sure I'd still consider it to be great.

Wasn't that movie about space pirates?
Nope. It was about energy beings who nearly made humanity extinct, and assorted humans and aliens wrecking their shit.

...that's a horribly lousy paraphrasing, since the movie was a lot more complicated than that, but still. I loved it, too.
That sounds about right to me.
:p

OT:I remember that Movie, i haven't seen it in a looooooong time though.

I remember watching that with my sister when I was around 5 or 6. It was wonderful.

no, that's metroid. I have only seen the first 20 min.
Or maybe Disney's Treasure Island?

OT never seen this, which is strange because I've seen most of Don Bluth's films i.e. Rats of Nihm, All Dogs Go To Heaven.

God I loved that movie, it's a total classic. I saw it back when it first came out on vhs and now I own a digital copy, just so I can be reminded how good animated movies can get.

Remembered it fondly from childhood. Re-watched it recently, and it lived up to my nostalgia. Really, a truly great example of Western animation. Just wish there were more movies like that.

saw it in theaters when it came out. Thought it was okay.

And since then, yea, it was just kind of a movie I forgot about, had no real lasting impact on me or made me want to see it again until a couple years ago when I saw it on Netflix and had a "why not?" moment.

And I think I liked it less during that 2nd watching. Was older and realized the pretty impressive cast of voice actors. But I thought the pacing was too fast, a lot of important things and characterization wasn't fleshed out and thus, I really didn't care about the characters or if I thought some of them had died.

For a game allegory, it was like a Jet Force Gemini. Fun sci-fi theme, good visuals, and Good intentions and a great development behind it- but ultimately skimmed over too much, never captured my imagination. That and the enemies in both seem similar to me

Think that was the Disney reboot of Treasure Island from awhile back. That the one where the kid is on the boat with the lobster claw bad-guy and the captain looks like a fat, peg-legged mountain lion stuffed in an old school captain's outfit?
