Does anybody else hate when people say TL;DR and honestly how long does it take to read a few sentences anyway? Also why even reply to a thread if you didn't even bother to read it, it's just so damn pointless.

Maybe they reply to tell them that their wall of text was too difficult to read. I dunno, but I'll definitely agree that it is annoying.

I can understand not wanting to read something that's three pages long on a subject that doesn't pique your interest, but yeah, tl;dr is pretty pointless. Why bothering responding?

I mean, calling out walls of text, yeah. That's legitimate. But complaining about length isn't necessary.

If a thread is too long for me to want to read at that particular moment, I don't post. Simple as that. Tull-derps piss me off. I don't even like when it's posted ironically or jokingly.
TL;DR

Haha, just kidding.
STFU.

It's even more annoying when they post it on a review you might have spent two to four weeks writing up... ¬¬

So yes, I hate them.
Still, it's a free bump, so it's not all bad in the end, if you lok at the bigger picture.

I'm sure someone will beat me to this but...
TL;DR

Seriously though, I think its a quite acceptable comment if a post is a "wall of text".
Make what your writing clear, concise and interesting. If it must be excrutiatingly long, break it up into segments and summarise where possible.

That's a good point. An important part of communicating something is to be concise. If it's longer then it needs to be maybe people shouldn't have to read it, and saying TL;DR helps them learn to get to the point.

Of course that is not why they are posting it... -,-

If a thread is just a gigantic block of text, it can be very annoying. Put some links in it to make colour. Add a picture or two. Use paragraphs. Use the quotation commands to organize your information. And try to bring your point across in as concise a manner as possible. If a thread is just a gigantic block of text, it can be very annoying. I would, except that I skip over walls of text all time. I'm sorry, but this is the internet. 80% of it isn't worth looking at, 19% is porn, and 1% is worth looking at and NOT porn. Those aren't good odds.

TL;DR

OT: Well there are some reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaalllllyyy long posts that can be essay length. Those I don't mind the poster putting a TL;DR part at the end, but I agree that when the post is like a paragraph long, there's no need to have a TL;DR summary.

Plus sometimes I'm intimidated by the walls of text I come across. Especially when they just look like a huge block of text.

Yeah, anything short of calling on Wall of Texts is pretty dickish.

Yeah, I'm a little slow in my writing process. Mainly as I have a few other things that require attention first, plus I'm not a great conveyor of my thoughts and opinions, unlike you are.

It does annoy me when people actually post TL:DR, especially when they're arguing with someone and they refuse to read the post that they are responding to. However, I occasionally include a TL:DR section in my longer posts, but I use it more as a way to summarize and close out an overly long and complicated post than as an actual option for people too lazy to read it.

I find it really annoying. If you don't want to read it, move on. Why post? As a writer, it's really frustrating to go to all the effort of putting up an article just to have some asshole pop in to say that they didn't read it.

I don't care what you think if you can't even be bothered to read. So don't post. In my opinion, posting TL;DR should be worthy of a probation, under the "Low Content Posts" rule.

What's even worse is when they don't read it because 'you're attacking them'.

I'll have to agree that TL;DR is little more than saying, "Yeah, I'm going to be a douche." Length is not quality; some walls of text are nothing but redundant blather that has no thought behind it. Other posts consist of thought out arguments or significant information and don't collapse into a blurb. TL;DR is just pure fluff. "I didn't bother to look at what you wrote, so I have no idea if it's well thought out or not, but I'm entitled to attach a smarmy note to it." Zero content, zero use.

Just ignore someone if you don't want to read them.

This is the only forum I frequent, and the most common form of TL;DR I see is when people put it at the end of their own posts because they acknowledge their thread introduction or post was really long. Obviously this doesn't bother me, but I think it's advisable to read their entire post if you want to reply anyway.

I have seen people say it in response to a wall of text on this site, but it's not such an issue that it would bother me.

I agree with most of what was said, TL;DR is annoying, and there are more polite ways to call out a wall of text. Yes, I know. Politeness, on the internet.
