Humm...I've rarely been in a position to have most of the top Tier gear, neither with PvP or PvE. I mean, I was doing okay pre-Wrath and had done most of the endgame stuff and was in a good arena team, but, I kind of slowed down afterword.
Besides, I mostly collect gear that looks good on my characters, must have spent a King's ransom in gold of various whites, greens, and blues just because of how the gear looked rather than it actually being useful in game, but then I use that stuff solely for RP so it really doesn't matter.
My favourite outfit so far was an entire Winter clothing suit (Santa Suit) and a pair of flaming pauldrons from the Fire Festival, I'd go around handing out bags to lowbies who'd engage in a little RP for them.
Gotta admit, partly this is one reason I play, I like interacting with other gamers, which is why we're all here, right?
Havent done it for a year or so because there just isn't the newbie population any more, but during holidays, I'd log my troll, put him in nothing but a funny hat a bright pink dress, and some sparklers, and then announce to Durotar (the newbie zone outside the main Orc City, Orgrimmar)...
'Help help, a troll has escaped the asylum, report to me his location and earn a reward in gold!'
Then I'd go play hide n seek with the newbies, giving out small cash prizes to any joining in.
Now, of course, this could be used to say' lol WOW is so bad you have to entertain urself' but its more that I like it BECAUSE I can make my own fun, and help other players, and just interact with fellow gamers in a fun way.
Of course I thoroughly enjoy the main game too, although I don't have any max level players, I'm just not really a 'raider', enjoying the questing and levelling aspects more.
Sure we pay for it, but it's a pretty minimal fee, and I enjoy it. Not trying to convince anyone else to join in, but just stating that some of us can still have fun out there
Oh and of course, Blizzard, like Valve, understand the 'technically superior graphics just shut out your product to people without a gaming rig' and so spend their money on artistic people, not number crunchers, when it comes to design.
Really do you want your character to have 20,000 polygons and refracted lighting with hardward transformation and the rest? Or do you just want him looking interesting? IF the former, are you willing to pay an extra $500 to see the individual threads and stains on his loincloth?
And us WOW players are the freaks?
