has anyone seen that video thats says "would you steal a car?", "would you steal a handbag?". piracy is stealing
erm ive just bought this film legally so why are you telling me this?
in all seriousness if they charge £8 to watch a film and a further £6 for a snack and beverage and stop you from bringing your own then they are the criminals
It is only criminal when it is against the law. You don't like the laws, rally or run to change them.
Anyhow, do you even have any idea how the economics of movies or games work? Now, don't get me wrong, I think the gaming industry (looks in EA's direction) does many awful and horrid things and I'm not happy with concession stand prices, either. But lets take a few examples of why they are so desperate and pricey.
Theaters make their money off of the concession stands, period. Ticket prices cover the cost to show you that nice movie and barely that. They also have to charge more to make up for movies that flop. If they didn't, the movies like Gigli would have put most theaters out of business. This is why they charge an arm and a leg for food and why they prohibit you from bringing your own food. Without those sales ticket prices would double. Would that make you happier? Something's got to be expensive, why not make it the optional part?
Games are no different. Lets take some mega blockbuster hit, say FF XIII, for example. Though I hated the tunnel game play, the movies and graphics are amazing. Do you have any idea how much it takes to make a game of that caliber? Do you also realize that most companies don't make money on the first game in the series any more? Why do you think there are so many part 23s out now? Is much cheaper to make a sequel. Did you also realize that with how expensive games are, the millions upon millions they make on one hit probably would not be enough to keep them out of bankruptcy if the next game failed? Yea, take each name you see scroll by in the credits, multiply that by 60, 000 (on the conservative side), multiply that number by the number of years it took to make the game, now you have the salary costs alone to make that game. There is also the upkeep of the building they work in, equipment, actors (voice and motion capture), royalties for using graphical engines, sound engines, video engines, payments to the console maker, royalties to the property owners, ad infinitum. Still think they charge too much for a game or movie? Of course you do.
