(i searched and found no topic like this in the first 4 pages.)

When did you first start playing WoW? And what were your very first thoughts about it.

I started my first trial account on the exact day Burning crusade was released. I started playing as a night elf rouge, and i found the game extremely enjoyable, but i can't put my finger on why. The player base was fun to play around with, especially going in a group and taking on tough challenges. And the scenery and largeness of the open world was very appealing. I didn't touch it much after that because i never got any money, so i had to keep playing trials. (played about 5 trials on different races) Then i finally made my first real account on the day wotlk was released. I still like it to this day and i really have been thinking of buying Cataclysm.

So when did you start playing?

My friend is a WoW player, has been for about half a year, and doesn't really stop playing it. He's probably doing it right now. He made me play the trial, I found it a bit too repetitive, and not very stunning looking except for cutscenes. But he said once you get the actual game it's far more fun.

I'm an on and off player, I became hooked as soon as a friend made me play it at his house.

I'm an on and off player, currently at an off moment until nearer Cataclysm. I started on release day, after months and months of anticipation.

I started in 2007. I was blown away at the visuals and felt serene. I played it after playing Warcraft III and after quitting Runescape so naturally I was easy to impress. Just give me a 3D MMO and I was like WOW! But after playing WoW for a few months I ran short on cash and stopped. Then WAAAAYYYY later in 2009. I started again and made it to 80 and was happy. Then about a few months later, I quit due to lack of cash. When I started again 4 months later... I was bored of it. That's why I am waiting for Cataclysm to see if I'll start again.

I miss my Orc...

Calumon: He swapped realms and faction so he could play with his friends but hated his Human... : ( Poor Jack.

My brother let me create a character on his account about three years ago. He sat next to me and helped me get up one or two levels. We logged off.
A few days later, I thought, "I might try to play this game on my own..." and I loaded it up. Logged into my brand new Blood Elf Warlock (on a damned PVP server... git of a brother), looked at the map, zoomed out a lil' and went, "Holy Fu... it's huge! Screw this... I'm playing something else." I logged off and thought I'd never play again.
Then my brother took me to join his D&D group. I met a dude there who said he'd help me play. Whenever we were on together, he'd give me hints, let me know what I was doing, he told me all about the add-ons I could download and I got hooked.
While I do have an 80, that particular character only just hit 70. I don't play as often as most WoWers, as I have University, dance classes and a boyfriend to contend with, but I get by. Haha.

Also, am I the only one sick of WoW players being expected to be apologists for playing the game?
Nope. I'm sick of it too. I don't get why so many people hate it and gamers say you're not a real gamer if you play WoW. It's pathetic. Yes, it might be pointless and yes, it's a little repetative, but it's also amazing amounts of fun. I got my mother into it, and she loves it. She's practically housebound and spends a lot of time on it if she isn't cleaning the house, walking the dog and researching the family tree.

I started playing a few months after BC, I then played until the March after Wotlk when I got bored. I am planning to start again later this year.

Started at the European launch and was instantly immersed in it the first time I sat my rotten foot down in the Undead starting area. Played it quite a lot for about 3 years, raided and did "serious" PvP (back with the old ranking system), until I became more "casual" in TBC by only playing the ocassional arena and/or battleground and leveling up alts. That continued until WotLK when I finally decided I've seen everything the game has to offer for me and quit.

So far I've had no desire to go back and not even Cataclysm looks to be reigniting my interest. I still keep in touch with my old guild mates though, and they were more or less everything that kept me in the game for the last 2 or so years anyway.

Might start playing again after I'm done with this army business of mine and if SW:TOR doesn't manage to keep me. Somehow I sense that might be a bad idea for my economy though...

I started WoW in its beta period. Played and cleared everything up until WoTLK. Cleared Uld 25 in the first few weeks it was out but quit when ToC came out. Tried to go back to clean up ICC but was so uninterested in the place and annoyed by the idiot fest that is gearscore, that I quit after clearing half of it.
My original impression of WoW (especially in beta) that it was confusing as hell. Granted a lot of it was extremely rough and without all the helpful stuff/ addons that exist now WoW was hard to navigate.
It was actually insanely frustrating because the game didn't do a great job of really telling you where to go or what to do. I remember stumbling about as a lock and getting slaughtered by the NPC infernals that guarded all the unfinished areas and just being killed over and over by things in general.
The game didn't do a super job of telling you what stats were important, where to find quest guys, what spells to use in junction with talents etc. I know a lot of people in the early game just fumbling around and spending talents randomly because the talents sounded good in theory but later on its like oh...this is useless.

I don't think I'm going to come back in cataclysm, I've just been so underwhelmed by all the cat stuff I've seen on MMO champ and I really don't like Blizzard's approach to changing gameplay. That and I really don't have the same time to invest anymore.

I played the trial a few weeks ago and it wasn't particularly amazing, not good enough for me to justify paying a monthly subscription to play it when I could spend that money buying regular console games that have less grinding and more variety. Plus the graphics in the trial are pretty dated now so it didn't look particularly great, even though Cataclysm is supposably going to update them.

I have played WoW since it came out in November, EU version, 2005, played all the time until after Wotlk then stopped for a few months and then on again, currently off now, but maybe after I pick up Cataclysm I'll start again.
