After you fall into a rhythm, it really doesn't bother you anymore. Just force yourself to go for a week straight, and after a while, it will just become part of your average everyday schedule.
This is correct. I think it varies how long it takes for most people to fall into a routine, but 1-3 weeks is probably about right. You also kind of have to ease into it, if you try and start a workout plan that's too hard then you won't bother to keep doing it.
This is also correct, but don't be too easily fooled by what is "too hard". If you lift weights for the first time, you're going to be sore as hell the next morning. Keep at it though, and eventually you will stop getting sore.

Please note: Not correcting you, just adding a bit more advice to whoever wants it.

Once you're there and start your workout you seem to build up your motivation much easier and quicker. I know that I would sometimes not want to go to wrestling practice after school, but once I was there I was feeling great and motivated.

Another thing you can and maybe should do is convince a friend to come with you. That'll keep you from being bored all alone and will also provide someone to spot you on those really hard sets. Your friend can also be a source of motivation if he/she is motivated already, since you'll be getting someone else to ride your ass about going to the gym.

So how do you do it? Do you motivate yourself with crap you cannot have? Like a smokin hot chick or something? Inner peace? World Peace?

Before it is suggested - Working out on my own, as in at my house, or running around the neighborhood is just plain old NOT an option. i just won't do it.

WHAT do you do!!!? I NEED to know!!! Please help. Save me from heart disease and awkward sex with fellow Fatty McFatFats.
Wrong attitude entirely!

If you're looking at things you won't do all the time then of course you're going to fail.

Look for a proper sport you can do or would like to do. I can't go to the gym just for the sake of it, I have to do something fun.

I ride mountain bikes and swim, they keep me fit and out of the gym most of the time. On the bike I meet people and make friends as well as pounding around and in the pool I beat the crap out of myself but enjoy it.

There's more than one way to fight off beer bellies.

Where the hell do you find the motivation?
At the beginning, the pain. It just feels good to know I've done something. (It's not so good after a month or two of pain, cause it's usually a sign that you overdo it)
Later it's the endorphine my body kicks out in buckets while I work out.

I think it feels good, it's good to go work out. Gives me a feeling of satisfaction. Also when I go running I zone out so I just plan what I'm going to do that day while I'm running, good way to keep a clear head.

Oh and I'm training for the Parachute regiment. I should probably have mentioned that first...

Crippling self-hatred, mostly.
I don't do it often, though. I keep overdoing it and injuring myself.

Irritatingly enough, I never seem to get slimmer. My muscles triple in size, but all the fat stays right where it is.
Daily sit-ups end up making me look fatter. It's really fucking annoying.

just find something you love to do. Like me, I can't run like at all. I hate it and all my energy is drained within minutes. So for cardio, I bike instead, where those minutes I last becomes hours. For strength training, I rock climb. It works just about every muscle in your body and is loads of fun. Plus being high up gets the adrenaline pumping better then any game could :)

I'm personally just a competitive person, hence the reason why I play online AND work out. I wanna look better than my friends, even though I work out with most of them. What you should do is be competitive, try and use the motivation that drives you to play UFC, and win I presume, to make you work out (if that makes any sense haha, sounded so much clearer in my head). Another option is to try and encourage friends to work out with you, that way you can't be lazy. Lets face it though: to be playing a game such as UFC, you have to have a certain level of determination. Just try and use it else where. And, like other people have said, once you start you kind of get into a routine which is hard to break. Good luck man!

My motivation is seeing some of the results. Trust me, stick with it and in two/three weeks' time, you'd start sleeping better and generally just feel better about yourself. I know it did for me. Granted, you're going to hit a plateau somewhere along the line, but hey, at least you feel better than before you started.

Oh, and at home, I just use my one 14-lb dumbbell and do some curls or some exercises for the shoulders, and/or push ups, and some crunches. I actually did 100 reps of push ups everyday in my senior year in highschool. Then I kind of did not do it once I got in college, what with the all nighters, the projects and exams in between.

EDIT:
Shameless plug 2 (this will play out like a shady ad that would otherwise be blocked by ABP):

Try swimming. I generally hate getting all sweaty and hot so I go swimming to keep in shape. 3 times a week, low resistance, you'd be amazed what the results are after you do it for a while.

Not dying. Everyone talks about genetics as the only factor, but exercise and proper diet really does lead to more energy, fewer health problems, and a longer life. I exercise because my grandmother died a horrible death because she had diabetes and didn't take care of it. I'm making sure that won't happen to me. I'm trying to be like Jack Lalanne, the godfather of fitness, 94 years old and still lifting and swimming every day.

Also, looking like a god doesn't hurt either.

Try doing something you like, and remember it really is addictive after a while.

I was inspired to start working out again after I had an inspiring dream. In this dream, all my insecurities were listed to me and I remembered them. So now I can start working on them to cross them off 'My Name Is Earl' style. I'll be hitting many birds with one stone by quitting WoW and instead grind toward a real life goal: epic body.

Also, read this brilliant article [http://www.scribd.com/doc/6649314/Implementing-a-Habit-Tyler-Durden]. I know its about being a pick up artist (It should be a interesting read for men nontheless) but its one of the things that helped me find the motivation to frequent the gym.

Join a local MMA or boxing gym. I have been a member of multiple fitness gyms but to me they were all the same and very little reason to go regularly. I believe that the biggest problem with the large fitness club is sure they have all the new awesome equipment, but you?re just another number in their system. My local MMA gym the instructors made it a point to know your name. A good MMA gym will ask about your goals. If you want to fight the will guide you to that goal. If your goal is to just get in shape they are more than happy to help you out every step of the way. The main thing is with my MMA gym if you miss a couple of classes one of your classmates will usually call and see why you are not there. Some people may not like that but for I like being held accountable for my actions.
