To Warhammer 40K fans: What's your favourite and least favourite Space Marine chapter or race?

I don't play but i consider myself a Chaos/IG man.

That being said i like the White Scars (Fast attacking mongols on bikes and landspeeders? HELL YES). Black Templars (For ignoring all that stupid codex bullshit and breeding a fuckton of marines for an eternal crusade). And the Salamanders, because they are the only black marines AND they have the most flamethrowers.

I don't hate any chapter but the Ultramarines just strikes me as a bunch of rule-fixated boors with brooms stuck up their asses. That's why i like Chaos followers, they are the rockstars of 40K.

I love the Dark Angels, I've got over 30,000 pts of them in minis. Been playing as them for more than 15 years. I love their background and attitude. Alpha Legion is also pretty cool, but they're Chaos now :/

My least favorite chapters would have to be Blood Angels or Space Wolves.

Least favourite has to be Space Wolves, they were the legion that started the rot, turning marines from cool future soldiers with awesome technological weapons and armour into a bunch of meat-head history themed religious nuts (Ok, technically the Dark Angels started that with Deathwing, but SW really cemented it) and introduced ridiculous special characters. Basically the space wolves becoming what they are today marked the end of Rogue Trader and the start of the abomination that was 2nd ed and all the other retarded shit GW has done to the setting over the years. Njall fucking Stormcaller and Ragnar cock gobbling Blackmane, I hate you more than everyone else hates Matt Ward.

I don't really have a favourite chapter ... perhaps if I'd read the Horus Heresy books and was more familiar with the Primarchs I'd have a preference.

Perhaps ... Legion of the Damned.

EDIT: As a side note, I play a non-Sororitas Witch Hunter army, using mostly modded Old Warhammer Imperial troops (handgunners, flagellants, etc). Tried to go for a 40K papal guard kinda feel.

No, really. There was a Space Marine Chapter called the Rainbow Warriors. I forget exactly what their paint scheme was other than that their helmets had a rainbow pattern. They used to appear on the side of Space Marine 1st and 2nd Ed. miniatures boxes (that's Epic? to you new people), and their chapter symbol shows up in the Command Centre on the Space Crusade board sections and Rogue Trader.

Favourite: Eh. I always picked Blood Angels when I was playing SC, and this just progressed naturally when I moved on to Space Marine. For 40K, oddly enough, I decided to go Chaos. Like many people, I find the later incarnations of the BA to be way too focused on twinky rules mechanics like the Death Company and the whole Carnsteins In Spaaaaaace! thing. It was better when they just carried the genetic memories of Sanguinus' last, desperate struggle against Horus.

Least Favourite: The chapter who always spring to mind as my least favourite from school-age onwards are those bland, blue, boring, over-used buggers the Ultramarines.

Favorite: Dark Angels. 1 They are my space marine army, and 2 I love both the look of the space marines dressed in robes and the mysterious nature of the chapter.

Least Favorite: Black Templars. During an enormous battle, the Black Templars on my flank (who were "supposedly" my allies) began loosing to the Chaos forces infront of me and chose to turn on me to try and win some cheap points. I've yet to forgive them for that. The traitorous scum soon regreted that decision when I sent the Deathwing on them. Muahahaha!

Least Favourite:They're all decent to me. I don't really have a least favourite. Although if I really had to choose one, I'd pick any Chaos Legion because they betrayed the Emperor!

Erm, there's actually a few chaos chapters that went to chaos FOR the emperor. They wish to kill the emperor in his corporeal form so that he can be fully released into the warp to duly ass rape the four major chaos powers.

Anyway, my favourite is Grey Knights. They are like the SAS of space marines, and the space marines were pretty SAS-like to begin with.

Least favourite are the Sons of Orar. Because they directly attacked the Alaitoc Craftworld, and I like Eldar the most.

You must have missed by subbing. I knew that a few Chapters were 'good', don't name them please, and so I mentioned that. "Except a few ones which didn't want to betray him." I said.

Favourite: It's a tie between the Iron Hands (What with their obsession with purging flesh and replacing it with mechanics.) and the Blood Angels (Only the Death Company, though. The rest of those pretty-boy nipple-armour-wearing twats can go die in a fire.)

Least favourite: Anyone and everyone who takes the option of shooting in the shooting phase.

My favorite would be the Black Templars. I like the color scheme, their close combat style and some of the lore surrounding them, like forgoing scout marines, having a fleet instead of a homeworld and their never ending crusade (something no other chapter can boast). Also the Emperors Champion is both a badass, running around the battlefield challenging people to duels, but not in the "heh, I just punched out a daemon prince" kind of levels.

My least favorite is probably the White Scars, not that I find anything particularly bad about them, but they just don't seem all that interesting. Although not using Dreadnoughts is a pretty major check against them. What greater honor is there than to continue to serve the Emperor even beyond death?

Not read through, but I used to love the Howling Griffons/Gryphons (can't remember spelling), Mentor Legion and the White Scars. Probably in that order, and purely on colouring.

(note, I played 40k when it was still called Rogue Trader and Ambulls were in the rulebook. Good times.)

Legion of the Damned are f***ing insanely awesome-sauce.. however they arn't a true chapter so I'll go with..
Dark Angels, I know they're still depressed after 10,000 years but that makes them awesome, plus they wear battle robes..

Least favorite.. can't really say any loyalists but all of you heretical scum can f*** right off, hope destroying bastards.. yes I'm specifically looking at you Emperor's Children.. hedonistic scum, you had a chance to end all of this but no you let the worst chaos god get to you... grrr..

Favorite would have to be the Space Wolves with the Raven Guard was a close second for the loyalist chapters... For the traitor legions, I would say the Thousand Sons or the Word Bearers.

Favorite: Death Guard. They're basically zombified space marines that are incapable of feeling pain. Plus their commander is a real nasty piece of work, even by chaotic standards.

Least favorite: Red Scorpions. These bastards are real fantastic racists and xenophobes. I doubt anyone would shed a tear if this chapter were wiped out.
