1. The toilet looks unpleasant with the seat up.
2. Men can pee either sitting or standing, women don't have that option (we can "hover", but it's a strain on the thighs, and generally uncomfortable). So leaving the seat down means its accessible to everyone.
Because as we all know women are incapable of putting the seat down when they walk into the bathroom. Thus leaving the toilet completely out of bounds for them if the seat is left up. :/
=_=

It's a courtesy thing. You *could* use the toilet if the seat is down. We have to lower it first. And personally, I hate touching toilet seats with my hands, when I have to use those same hands to wipe (none of that revolting "drip-dry" stuff, thank you).

Obviously this brings up the issue of actually sitting on the seat - which is why I rarely use public toilets. But even in my own home, I find having to lower the seat distasteful.

Not to mention how much more gross a toilet looks with the seat up - the underneath of the seat, and the exposed rim when the seat is up, tend to harbour more "dirt". Nobody wants to see that. Out of sight, out of mind.

I'm rambling - basically, it's just more polite to leave the seat down. Or, better, leave both seat and lid down - then we all have to raise and lower something when we use it, and we're all equal.

Now the real problem is the toilet seats in public restrooms or schools.
You know, the ones that are elongated and have that bit cut out of the front. I hate those things, whenever i had to drop a duce in school, its like sitting in a hole in the ground full of water. Thank god I dont use restrooms at school or publicly anymore.

ive never had a problem with men leaving the seat up i mean it should be each to their own right they like the seat up we like it down its not difficult to put it down and neither is it difficult to put it up its probably another hold over from the days when women were child bearing furniture and everyone being equal no one should really worry about the toilet seat and it should never be the big deal some people make over it

Why is it such an issue for women if a guy leaves the toilet seat up?

Is it cause the toilet seat being down looks better or is it cause they are too lazy to look at the toilet before sitting down and end up falling into the toilet?

Any idea? It just seems to be a common issue on TV and in real life.
I have a penis and prefer the seat to be down. So your characterization of this being a female only issue is unwarranted.

The thing is first it is a toilet seat and lid. What is the point in having it attached to the toilet if it is never used properly.

Second putting the damn thing down before you flush helps prevent the spread of germs.

Third who the hell wants to walk into the bathroom to brush their teeth and see your daily floater that failed to go down the first stewing in the commode.

I live in a house with two other women, and there has never been a problem with leaving the toilet seat up.

One of them has complained about getting urine on the back of the toilet (which may be the fault of me or the other guy i live with) but frankly urine anywhere else other than inside the toilet warrants a complaint.

I thought this topic would be on the varieties and types of toilet seats. I feel like I was misled coming into this topic.

Porcelain, plastic, wood, and metal are materials for making seats. Now you get to go with padded or unpadded. Heated is a nice option, but it's expensive.

OT:I'm a single guy. The seat's going to be up. Get over it.

Unless you're talking about sitting which very few men do (and less will admit to), having the seat down drastically increases the chance of get a urine soaked seat. It's not even incompetence in handling there can be wild splashes when starting and stopping. In a domestic environment the upright seat is a clean seat.

I figure leaving the seat up would be beneficial to everyone. Some guys are too lazy to lift the seat and get pee all over it, so that can be avoided if the seat is only down when needed :3

I feel like this is more ov a TV problem than a real life problem. But I always put down both the seat and the lid. Why not?

As a girl:

Ever walked into the bathroom at night in the dark, to sit down thinking the seat was down, and suddenly sitting a lot lower and most often falling in? yeaaaaah thats lame.

Also, lid should go down too! toilet germs spread real far when you flush and my toothbrush is nearby D:

Lesson to be learned here: turn the lights on at night when you go into the bathroom. I mean really, why would you walk in in the dark? You could stumble or hit something.

I don't care really. I just leave it how i want to. I don't think this is such a big deal in real life.

I sit when I pee. Problem solved.

Why all men don't, I do not understand.

It's better for you (as I have been told by a Gastroenterologist) and its more comfortable. I mean, yeah, if you're freaking huge, or are very excited, I see why it would be uncomfortable. But the average man should have no problem sitting.

Because other people are asleep in my house and turning the light on would disturb them :|

Because people don't want to touch the toilet.

It's a toilet.
this this to be a common response. but a guy has to lift the seat and then put it down again. so why cant the guy leave the seat up so they only have to touch it once?

what I do is close the lid as well as the seat, If I have to lift something every time I have to go to the bathroom she'll have to as well, plus it looks better with the lid shut.
Pretty much what I do. Then if any woman bitches about that, she's definitely just trying to be controlling.
