According to ABS, the cost of a Cinderella's castle wedding at Tokyo Disneyland is a staggering 7.5 million yen - around $95,000 US. Mickey doesn't discriminate against the gay, but he certainly discriminates against the poor. Damn.
What I really wanted to ask about is the price. 95k US does sound like a lot, but not being from the US and not being married, I have no idea. Could a US escapist shed some light on this? And yes, I know you can get married for nothing or for a million dollars, I was wondering about the cost of an "average" wedding.
from what I could find average is around 19000- over 25000 so this was pretty costly too but the average includes stuff like caterers servers djs and all that you don't really need some of that but it's up to you and the partner what you want and don't want
O.T. good to hear the happiest place on earth is happy to everyone

You'd think that with all the weird shit that comes out of Japan's media that they'd be more accepting. Oh well. Oppressive societies lead to repressed individuals. Repressed individuals lead to madness. Madness leads to creative explosions. Creative explosions... lead to suffering.

I'm sure if I offered a hundy grand to get a golden shower from Minnie Mouse, they would oblige.

My point is money talks.

OT: This story is madness. Utter madness. Why would anyone want to get married at a goddamn Disneyland? I have never, and I do mean never, been to a more disturbing and depressing place in my life. And I've visted Portsmouth!
*shrug* I remember the story of the couple which got married in the shadow of Japan's 1:1 scale RX-78-2 Gundam.

Which was awesome by the way.

People get married in weird places, that's just life ;p

I'm not meaning to judge by saying this, just stating a fact:

Japan also allows people to marry their anime-character pillows and girls from dating sim games.

That is all. :p

You'd think they'd be more willing with real people.

Good for Disneyland Tokyo. It's nice to see a place take hold it's ideals and morale's, then make them laws. (or least have a ceremony) If only the rest of the world could do that too..

Oh wait... they are, eh??

Damn the majority!! Minorities should make the laws!

lolz
I... what? You're not sober at all!

That's kind of bitchy. It isn't enough that they're willing to do it at all?
Yes, it is incredibly bitchy to be able to wear what you want at your own wedding that you are paying a large sum of money for.

I've seen female dogs with less ***** in their swagga.

OT: Doesn't surprise me, the bunch of hippies; they let Donald Duck expose himself out in public for years.

Why would you not offer these? For the tiny amount you may lose from people objecting to them, the enormous boon you get from people having just one wedding makes it pretty smart business sense. We've seen this with recent US states who received millions in extra revenue from 'gay marriage tourism'.
Thing is, in Japan all you need to be legally recognized as married is for you and your partner to sign some paperwork. Everything else is either tradition, or an excuse to throw a party, and not as many people are into that part these days. You'd be needing more focus on the tourism part of 'gay marriage tourism' in order to consistently make money off of that.

That being said, yeah. They should still do that. No one is going to go all the way to Japan to get married and NOT tourist around for a honeymoon.

Disneyland Tokyo: It's more progressive than North Carolina!

North Carolina recently voted against legalizing gay marriage. Words cannot express my hate.

so basically you think its perfectly fine to hid the fact that your gay for a ceremony celebrating the fact that they are a same sex couple?

they're not being bitchy, they're being offended! To say that you have to pretend to be straight to get what you want is an extremely homophobic remark on disneyland's part. and it was good to hear that they let them get married in the end.

Also, if you pay 7.5 million yen/$95000 US for a wedding you should be able to set whatever rules you want.

that's pretty cool, yet kinda sad at the same time. a theme park is more progressive then the government of the country it's located in.... wow.

Japan has been slow to change its laws to account for homosexual or transgendered couples, largely due to the nation's glacial approach to social issues, but some maintain that LGBT or queer lifestyles are accepted, but not discussed.
Come now.

Not even glaciers move that slow.

Also, holy frick that's a lot of dosh to blow so that you can be married by unemotive, fixed-grin, bug-eyed Disney characters. Terrifying thought, really.

My Japanese teacher told me something about this. Isn't it something like, Japanese people are born Shinto, marry Christian, and die Buddhist? That's not meant to be racist, it supposedly reflects the types of ceremonies that Japanese people tend to go through at each point in their life.

Disney is private property though. They don't have to let them get married at all, especially since the state/region/whatever doesn't recognize it as valid.

The private property part is very important.

Thing is, no matter how much you look at it, its a business. Weddings are a service they provide. And at 7.5 million yen, they really shouldn't be picky as to who gets married and the conditions. I'm not saying that they're going on broke, rather that this is a business by the end of the day. they care more about profit then people.

In the eyes of government, yes they don't recognise it. but you can still have the damn thing.
