Hmm, still undecided on getting this yet. I played the old Tomb Raider games and liked them, but haven't touched one since Tomb Raider Revelations on the PS1. (1999?! Christ that makes me feel old).
I keep hearing good things about this one, and am kind of running out of games to play.
It's absolutely worth playing. I don't see it having any of the replay value of the blocky first installments of the IP, but as an interactive experience and a mighty fine action game with an above-average believable heroine it's on par with the first Rambo movie. Not asking if you like that or not, it's just that no matter how you decide to play this game (zip through it or completionist OCD or just climbing, running and jumping around like it's a big playground once you removed all threats), Lara's story will offer a new and quite interesting approach to the character. It's a reboot and a prequel and an origin story of sorts all rolled into one, so I should hate it. I don't.
Depending on how well versed you are in movie tropes, you'll feel like a real-life Nostradamus most of the way, but there's still plenty of stuff that make the ride interesting and worthwhile, methinks.
I also dig the action quite a lot. It's quickly at odds with the newly conceived lore, but the gun play and the melee and the takedowns are an explicit sight to behold. Yes, it's Heavenly Goddess of Uncharted Bayonetta War or Tomb Raider May Far Cry all over again, but it's a neat package that's technically sound (except for the fancy new hair on PC and the crashes for NVIDIA users) if you don't happen to be Conan O'Brien.
Don't be Conan O'Brien.
