Too old for tabletop games?

So, I'm 31.

When I was a kid, I played some Warhammer/40k but never really get too into it because the strategy involved was over my head. So, I settled with Magic:TG.

When you get older, your mental maturity changes, and I find myself playing a lot more strategy type games, which got me thinking about Warhammer/40k again.

So... am I too old to play? I think if I could find some people more my age that played I would enjoy it, however, the thought of spending a Saturday afternoon with a bunch of early teen kids playing a tabletop game doesn't really appeal to me.

No you are not I used to work at a comic shop. The players that were actually fun to watch were between 25 and 55 because they
A) Didn't argue about the rules so heatedly
2) Used strategy as opposed to 'i use all my points on the biggest guns.'
C) Didn't ragequit

This.

You're never too old for tabletops unless we're talking kiddie tabletops.

As long as you can find someone with a similar mindset to play with, you're never too old for them.

Nah, you're never too old for tabletops, particularly Warhammer/40K. The majority of the people who play at my local Games Workshop are over 20, with around 20-25% being middle-aged, I think. Good gamers, as well.

Yeah, you're never to old. Just remember not to be a dick to some of the kids...

For example: My little brother, being 12 at the time, was playing a game of 40k at a Games Workshop store against a 30+ year old guy with a massive amount of money spent on his special custom army, he then admonished my little brother for statting out his Space Marines with an item that's in the Rule book, but can only be Special Ordered in Model Form from the GW Website.

That's right, a 30+ year old man told a 12 year old that he couldn't use something because he didn't spend STUPID amounts of money SPECIAL ORDERING something from a website...

Yeah...

Honestly, the most fun I've ever had gaming has been with tabletop games (Left 4 Dead and Rock Band excluded). I'm not just talking Warhammer/40K, either, but stuff like card games and board games. They are far more social than sitting with a controller, staring at a screen, because your concentration has enough leeway to actually hold a conversation with the people you're playing with.

Really, the older you get, the more the social aspect of life becomes important, so I think tabletop gaming is actually far superior to video gaming, at least in that aspect. But video games are kick-ass when you're playing by yourself, or when you're playing co-op games. At least in my experience.

Most players of Warhammer tabletop 40k or original are older because the figures and supplies are relatively too expensive for most teens. So when you play real games with people at a local hobbyshop, chances are theyll be 20s-40s. Never too old to play games. =]

You obviously didn't work at the same comic shop as me.

Yes, with maturity comes... maturity...

Used to play Magic TG in college and me and my buds would teach the youngsters a thing or two about unique deck building (without just copying something from the internet).

I am 32 now and I taught my wife to play Magic TG, she likes it. We play maybe once every other week. (old school, nothing past 6th ed, I "quit" when they changed the cards to look like Pokemon... no offense to Pokemon, just not my cup of tea). Never got into warhammer, but I say, if you enjoy it... there is no age limit.

My old landlord was well into his 50's (or early 60's) and DM'ed a weekly D & D campaign. He had been playing since it first came out. And his campaigns were an epic experience. So no you are not.

Quite honestly D&D and Warhammer 40K requires a more mature mind than that of a young teen. You're never too old for Tabletop gaming.

I think you only start to appeciate the complexity of the table top games when you start playing at a later stage, i remember when i was younger play 40k i bought like 6 tanks cause i thought they were awesome now i rarly used them!!!

Did some quick intel work and it seems the local shop I used to frequent is gone. This doesn't look promising.
