Two games made after 2000? Eh, top ten nostalgia, more like.
Sorry, but wouldn't that be the top 8?

Also, the number 1 was a tad obvious.

Surprisingly well put-together list. My choices for absolute, purified digital crack:

5) Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Even more addictive than Civ2 because the game was so much of a Great Leap Forward for the series and added actual personality to the leaders. Destroying Sister Miriam's Bible-thumping jerk squad NEVER gets old.

4) The Sims 3. Virtual people? In situations that just scream for all manner of oddball digital experimentation in a world that evolves just enough to constantly keep things interesting? Yes, please.

3) SimCity 4. Take the original SNES experience described in the article. Then crank it up to 11 and add in a bunch of new and innovative ways to build out a city. Miles and miles beyond anything that has come before.

2) Oblivion. Beautiful world. Plenty of stuff to do---unique stuff if you add the right mods. Easy place to get lost in. Honorable mention to Morrowind and Fallout 3 for the same reasons.

1) Medieval 2: Total War. Rome's the best game in the series from a fun and gameplay perspective, but Medieval 2's balanced better and therefore offers more of a sense of fighting opponents that stay consistently interesting over time.

Warcraft/Starcraft? No surprise.
Tetris? Agreed.
Dr. Mario? Sure.
Double Dash? Not really. I was more addicted to 'Kart 64 and DS.

I wouldn't say 007 is the most addictive game... nowadays. I try to play that game sometimes but I can see that it hasn't aged well. It was good times for quite awhile until Halo came out.

Speaking of which, Halo 2 is no longer addictive since Live's been pulled from the old Xbox and Halo 3-OST-Reach is around. At least, from my perespectibve. Maybe in the LAN circles its still fun.

But my crack? Team Fortress 2. The only reason i'm not playing right now is because my connection's gone to crap.

I think that list is accurate myself. I'm surprised Tetris is so low, but everything seemed to fit well. I have to say that Diablo beats out Diablo II for the reason that Diablo is randomized EVERY time you play it. Different quests each time make it fun to replay, because you never knew what you'd be up against. Diablo II streamlined it (and took out the books you could find and read!), and while everything else in Diablo II was better, this was not. Same game every time you play it.

WoW being #1 was predictable. I wouldn't say it's that addictive personally but you get the odd few news articles showing it being like cocaine for nerdy kids.
It's not a bad game entirely, just has a bad rep.

Minecraft should be on that list though, that game isn't even finished and everyone's addicted to it D:

Championship Manager/Football Manager is absent from that list. Therefore, that list is not complete.
