I haven't seen a topic like this and I thought that it would be fun to see what games really sticks in some gamers hearts.
I personally have to say:
1. Tombi (Or Tomba if you are American). My favourite game of all time, mostly due to nostalgia factor, but it's really one of those games that I can just pick up and play at all time.

2. Devil May Cry 3. I have always loved the DMC genre and the first one was the first game I had for the PS2 but the third was just so much better on so many levels. More weapons, more combos, more abilities, and just more of the bad ass Dante.

3. Bioshock. My favourite FPS. I had no prior knowledge of the game, It just stood there on the shelf in my local video game store and I was intrigued enough to buy it and from start from finish this game had my fullest attention and, too me, one of the best stories out there.

So what's your favourites? Please note that every person have different opinions. Please don't start a flame war.

Always a hard choice, but I will name three that were up there for me. But these are in no particular order, and that is intentional.

Ace Combat 4
Ratchet and Clank Going Commando
Rome Total War

Based mostly on playtime as well as how much replayability I felt I got out of them. There are others but these are definitely somewhere in my top 10 or so.

1. Starcraft
2. Dragon Age:Origins + Awakenings
3. KOTOR (1&2)

For nostalgia purposes I'd love to also throw Goldeneye and Perfect Dark in there :p But there isn't enough room. Mine aren't in any particular order, there's been a lot of games I've loved over the years

1. Phantasy Star II. Greatest RPG of all time, and was the first game I ever fully completed.
2. Uncharted 2. Amazing narrative, beautiful graphics, and extremely fun online.
3. Nightfire 007. I've spent thousands of hours playing with friends, and it's still part of our Saturday night gaming extravaganza. Not to mention Pierce Bronson is an absolute beast.

It's tough to leave out a lot of my favorites, but listing about a hundred honorable mentions would take way too long and I want to go to bed. Might put them in as an edit in the morning.

Escape Velocity - it's a genre I just absolutely love, and nothing comes close to being as fun as it for as long

Unreal Tournament 2004 - really UT in general, but 2004 is the best, and it just never stops being fun. Good for just playing 10 minutes and also great for spending hours at it

Super Mario Land - just something about nostalgia, I never get tired of playing it despite how many times I've beaten it.

My Top 3 would be:

Diablo II: So hours, so many characters, so much loot and so much fun!

Timeshift: Something about this game just really worked for me. I've finished it countless times and keep coming back for more. (plus I'm a sucker for anything with time travel in it!)

Final Fantasy VIII: That's right, there is 3 I's there! I do mean 8 not 7. I absolutely LOVED this game! My first JRPG and to this day still my favorite. Awesome story and believable characters - just fantastic experience from start to finish.

Diablo II. I haven't played it in years and Titan Quest took it's place as soon as it was released. But I've played it quite a lot and I always remember it.

Counter-Strike: Source. I've played it and earlier CS's for over thousand hours. It's one of those games I happen to launch subconsciously, when I can't think of anything else to do, and sometimes even when I'm about to launch another game, I happen to open CS:S. The best FPS ever made. And I'm quite good at it.

Elasto Mania. A smaller 2D motocross game I've played for countless hours. This is a game that almost everyone somewhere close to my age has played, be they gamers or not. Unbelievably well known in Finland and the rest of Scandinavia I think. Easy to learn, with dozens of different levels of masterfulness. Trials HD, Trials 2 and all those are very similar to it, inspired would be an under-statement, more of a copying. Although Elasto Mania has a lot better physics.

Normally, a question with an obvious answer (Rome: Total War and the two most recent Fallouts). But you said "in your life", and having just concluded a five-week stretch of nearly nonstop gaming, I'll call out one obvious and two not-so-obvious games that have really done wonders to occupy ungodly amounts of my time this past month-plus.

Fallout: New Vegas. Steam says I've already put 191 hours into this game, and although my attempt to play it through start to finish in one sitting failed badly (stupid brain insisting I sleep---dear gods, I'm old), I still played absolutely backwards and forwards, up and down, to an insane degree---and the game itself never gets old.

Hinterland. It's not even that the game is good---it isn't. Mediocre at best. So why have I spent 23 hours with it? Because it's maddeningly difficult on Hardcore Mode (where if your character dies, the game records your score then deletes the save. Very Nethack.) And because until I beat the game in that mode, I'm going to feel like it's somehow getting the better of me. It's a quick (well, relatively---three or four hours) Diablo-style RPG with some base-building RTS elements from 2008, and since I only paid $2.49 for it (Steam sale), I feel like I got a pretty good value.

Civilization 5. I called this game last year's biggest disappointment---and I meant it. The Civilization formula's been done to death and there's nothing here I haven't seen dozens of times before. But let's face it---it's still Civilization. Sid Meier's creation may have stopped impressing me in...oh, I don't know, 2001, when Civ3 came out and was a giant step backward from Alpha Centauri? It's a far cry from my Game of the Year rankings. But I have played the crap out of it (37 hours) the past five weeks.

Ha, I have been listing these a lot lately, but I'll never pass up a chance to gush about these games,

1. Abe's Exoddus. Technically, it should be combined with Oddyssey, but, because I have a rule that I'm only allowed to pick one game from a series, I'm going with the brilliant sequel. I just love this game. It's challenging and funny and I will never get sick of playing this game over and over again.

2. MediEvil. This game is hilarious, but, again, like Oddworld, in a rather subtle way. It's quirky and creepy and it still remains one of the most unique games I have ever played. The concepts behind it are great, and the whole Hall Of Heroes thing is just genius.

And 3. Is a tie between GoldenEye 007 and Star Wars: Dark Forces. I don't usually get into FPSs, but these games really stand out for me as excellent. Part of me thinks that these games were so good that they ruined the genre for me. (No, not really, but being games I love from a genre I don't normally like has to be an achievement.)

This is actually pretty easy for me...
Planescape Torment
Deus Ex
Age of Empires II

Quake II is up there, but on it's own I don't think I'd consider it one of my top games. With the community it had behind it and the countless mods, it's more or less untouchable. Communities like the first two Quake's had simply don't can't exist anymore. These days there's always another big game coming out in a month or two, so longevity has been cut down. Also, Quake and Quake II were virtually uncontested during their time as top FPS.

Half-Life 2
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Crash Team Racing

I guess those three. Quake II is a runner-up. These games are judged by the amount of my childhood wasted on them. Aside from HL2. HL2 is just a great game.

Wow, with so many to choose from, you'd think I were spoiled for choice. Yeah, so it turns out that I am, but then it's not that much of a shortlist that I have, when it all boils down to it.

1) Discworld. I have been a fan of the books since I was introduced to them by my cousin and by dint of chance, when he acquired a PC, he also acquired this game. Cue a lot of evenings spent over with them and trying to find a computer that would run it (We still had an Archimedes back then!), so I could steal it for myself. The early point and click games were fun, but limited, though this one does stick in my mind, particularly for thre vocal talents of Eric Idle, Tony Robinson and the late, great Jon Pertwee. The other game that was a very close second in this genre of adventure / point and click games would be Planescape Torment. Running around with a man who can't die, trying to remember just who you are. Brilliant.

2) Dynasty Warriors. Pick any of the main titles from 3 onwards and you'll be onto a winner with me. Though it hasn't caused me to invest in a PS3 yet, I can certainly see it being one of the first titles that I purchase for said format, if ever I upgrade. War, Huh! What is it good for? Taking over feudal China, of course. The story behind the Romance of the Three kingdoms is told ad infinitum in this series and with DW6, they finally seem to have been more faithful to the story itself (The one where Cao Cao's dreams of conquering China are realised by his son, Cao Pi), plus some of the characters are more believable, as opposed to having different weapons for the sake of variation. Sure, it was really fun in earlier games to see Xiahou Dun running around with a sabre and now he just has a mace, but Sun Ce looking less effeminate with his sword is always a plus. Multiplayer is fun and I can easily spend a lot of time at my friend's house playing alongside him until he inevitably has to kick me out, but he enjoys it so much, that he invites me back.

3) If ever there were a games franchise that I would sell my soul to, it would be Legacy of Kain. A unique storyline, that drags the player into a fantasy realm and teaches them about the corruption of the guardians. How the main protagonist is a guardian of balance and to kill himself would be to stop everything just makes the tale more juicy. This game spawned 4 sequels and as such was really enjoyable in every form of the game. I wish that Eidos would drop Lara Croft and... oh, they're owned by Square Enix, so until Final Fantasy breathes its last, we won't be seeing any more of Kain :(

I'm a hardcore fan of that series, so without wanting to sound so pissy, the story is not complete until balance has been restored! Chop chop!

Of course, there is another series of games, that has a unique storyline and has surfaced relatively recently. The idea of running around in the past and finding out what you ancestors did from the comfort of one's own armchair is strangely appealing. Unfortunately, since I am such a colourful character, my ancestors were probably boring. However, we shall counter this, with Desmond "Beige" Miles and his infinitely more interesting ancestors, Altair and Ezio Auditore. Three games in and I'm still saying "Ow, my brain hurts", with the promise of yet more to come. Where will they take this next? Will Desmond discover a third assassin ancestor (Someone who Lee Harvey Oswald played the fall guy for?), or will it be a game that my girlfriend has been banging on about and running around modern Earth as Desmond trying to capitalise on what has been taught to him by his ancestors and the equally mysterious Subject 16? I'm sold on this franchise and while certain critics will laud parts of the game, while outright condemning others, I quite like the puzzles and the mind fucks. Especially when you're trying to fight for your life in the middle of Renaissance Rome, while working out these things.

Legacy of Kain has the edge, because it seems to be a closed series at present, though Creed will have to work a little harder to supplant that in my psyche as the better series of games.

1. Dragon Age Origins. I just love the game.
2. Warcraft 3. Not so much for the game itself, but for the amazing people I met on bnet.
3. Counter-Strike: Source. Probably have about 2000 hours on that game, so yeah.

1. 007 Nightfire, endlessly playable, such a shame my disc broke, having adjustable ai bots makes for fantastic customizable multiplayer or lone night in gaming
.
2. Kotor(1) amazing game, much better made than kotor2 but a fantastic game in its own right.

3. Worms, any of them, fantastic games, great multiplayer and always good for a laugh.
