Really difficult to shorten the list since there are so many but I say this will do:

Shadow Of The Colossus
Silent Hill 2
Prince Of Persia Trilogy (Can't say which one they're all equally good to me)
Mass Effect
Portal
Max Payne (Loved all of them)
God Of War (Again all three, though the third did piss me off)
Batman Arkham Asylum/City (Though I do probably prefer the second one due to better gameplay)
GTA Vice City
Red Dead Redemption (Easily my favourite Rockstar game)

That list is in no order either.

I love these threads! Well here we go, my ten best games from my life time in no particular order...

My right hand is in physical pain but I still play this game. I love the redesigned characters and enemies (THEY'RE SO DAMNED CUTE, OH MY GAWD!!) and the amount of music available before download is greatly satisfying though I just realized that Vamo Alla Flaminco isn't available and that kind of annoys me...or rather it would if I wasn't nostalgia-gasming all over myself because of the other music on here. At time of writing I've put 40+ hours into the game in just over a week, having unlocked all but 3 characters and I'm planning on buying all of the DLC EVER for this once I get paid this week. Hopefully VAF will appear in the next week or few...that's all I really want...

Put here instead of Twilight Princess or Wind Waker because of how much time, love and, energy I've put into it. I loved this game more so than Majora's Mask and still play it from time to time. I loved the fishing minigame and Water Temple (yes I went there). This is one of the games on this list that made it because of Nostalgia of course. I'll put up a top five Zelda list in the bottom of this post though...I should do that with FF games too...

Out of the main 13 Final Fantasy titles, this is the first one I was able to beat (thanks to stupid, faulty memory cards). Even if I couldn't beat it though, I loved this game. I never owned it on the SNES (though I will likely have fixed that before the summer is out) and am currently replaying the PSX version since my GBA version was eatten by something invisible. Anyway, I love the characters, plot, etc...it's just a great game as far as I'm concerned.

My first PS3 game and the last Xbox360 game I purchased (it was $10 new, don't judge me). This game felt like a mixture between Metal Gear Solid and Spider-Man...only you play as Batman as voiced by Kevin Conroy. It's a pretty huge game considering it takes place on a single island and the variety of enemies you face off against is pretty amazing, even if Killer Croc is a freaking joke: it's ok though because Scarecrow more than makes up for it. I also love all of the background info you get on all of the villains who have appeared not only in Batman comics but other DC works (freaking Prometheus). The only thing keeping me from grabbing Arkham City GOTY right now is the upcoming Armored Ed on the Wii-U

TURTLE POWER! I never have many opportunities to play the arcade Turtle games but I was lucky enough to own the SNES game. This isn't just a beat-em-up I've beaten (unlike Super Double Dragon) but it's one that I've beaten multiple times and the first game I've ever beaten on Hard difficulty. This games is another which is a physical manifestation of my childhood and proof that somewhere out there is a benevolent, loving...something.

Hail to the King Baby. I couldn't tell you how many hours I've spent on this game mainly because I'm still building them up. Despite having downloaded and beaten this thing on the XBLA, I still play the N64 port more than that one (because Gameshark of course...also fucking bot matches) and since I haven't been able to play Painkiller, this is my golden standard of what a fun FPS SHOULD be: circle-strafing gigantic enemies with an exploding microwave gun after having popped pain pills and soaking up alien bullets without a single care in the fucking world. Also strippers.

As much as I loved Super Mario Brothers and 3, I actually owned Super Mario World for a good chunk of my childhood and it was the first game I actually beat (even if, to this day, I haven't beaten every star world...). Point being this is a nostalgia game but it's a damn solid one. It introduces Yoshi in all of its glorious colors and I love the Super Hero Cape.

I love Pokemon (that is to say, I love the RPG style games named after colors, metals, etc). I've owned one or more titles from each generation, these games being the reason I keep buying Nintendo handheld consoles, and even though I own and have beaten the remakes (Heart Gold/Soul Silver) the original Silver is still my favorite. Mainly for nostalgia of course because I love how in Soul Silver your lead Pokemon follows you around Pikachu style. Anyway, this is the one that introduced 2v2 battles and, breeding. It may have also introduced Shiny Pokemon but I could be mistaken about that. It also introduced my favorite legendary birds (Ho-Oh having grown on me) and, freaking Tyranatar. Sadly, my original cart was misplaced or stolen so I'm desperately looking for a new copy...

I know there are dozens of different DDR titles so I didn't even try. I've never played the new Americanized titles and I haven't played Mario or Disney mix but otherwise this game is nostalgia for me, specifically putting me in mind of the better aspects of High School and my teenage years. This reminds me: I need to put The Bomb and Butterfly on my zune ASAP...

I was close to putting down Mass Effect when I realized that, while I have played and enjoyed Mass Effect for dozens, if not hundreds of hours, Knights of the Old Republic is a game that had an actual effect on me. It featured perhaps the best Star Wars story I'd ever experienced and the gameplay was unique enough to keep me hooked. The characters were also great: unlike other Bioware games, there wasn't a single support character in this one that I disliked.

[sub]*=games I've owned/purchased more than once/on more than one console[/sub]

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy II

honorable mentions to Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest and, Crisis Core
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

1. Mass Effect 2: I still can't believe I have over 40 complete profiles for it)
2. Fallout New Vegas: In my opinion the best fallout game not that the others aren't awesome
3. Dragon age: Origins: Other than the slowish combat I love just about everything in it
4. Mass Effect: Kicked ass
5. Mass effect 3: Overall an awesome conclusion to the series other than that one big issue
6. Skyrim: I have sunk so many hours in to this game I think I've done everything 3 times
7. Oblivion: Very long and fun game
8. Legend of Dragoon: First non-child game I played when I was little and I still love it
9. Portal 2: Great game and I loved the story
10. Witcher 2: Just got it but it seems like it might get to my top three soon

I'll try this.

No real order though.

Resident Evil 4
Tales of Symphonia
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Super Smash Bros. Melee
X-Men 2: Clone Wars
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Dead Space 2
Alan Wake
Banjo-Kazooie

The only order is the first five. After that, its a big clusterfuck of "I have no idea" and "This is just off the top of my head, I can't check my game library because I'm at work".

I have in fact produced a definitive list for whenever this question arises.

1.Silent hill 2
2.FF7- I feel I need to explain myself ,yes, over 6,5,4 and 9. Only because its one of the turn based rpgs (and jrpgs) that I actually enjoy the combat in. I adore the materia system, love that there's barely any grinding needed, and i know the story is cliched and all but just call it a guilty pleasure of sorts.
The weird thing is I would only give the game an 8/10 in an objective analysis. Its all just personal.
3.MGS
4.journey
5.Fallout1/2/3
6.Half Life
7.Hitman blood money
8.Mirrors Edge-oh so flawed but they key free running concept is just my absolute favourite gameplay experience despite dodgy collision.
9.SOTC
10.Portal

Honorable mentions:

Ninja Gaiden/SMB3- My 2 favourite nes games. Although SMB3 is literally perfect unlike anything else on my top 10 it just misses out on my favourites list.

Earthbound- One of the greatest games ever made and it pains me not to put it on there but I just don't really get on with turn based combat anymore.

FF7-yes, over 6,5,4 and 9. Only because its one of the turn based rpgs (and jrpgs) that I actually enjoy the combat in. I adore the materia system, love that there's barely any grinding needed, and i know the story is cliched and all but just call it a guilty pleasure of sorts.
The weird thing is I would only give the game an 8/10 at most in an objective analysis. Its all just personal.

Condemned/Bioshock-These are the 2 games I'm most reluctant to leave of my list. In fact Bioshock would be top 5 if it ended after the twist.

Monkey Island/Longest journey/To the moon-my favourite adventure games (seriously give to the moon a go, it's amazing)

Planescape Torment-While SH2 has my favourite 'personal' story, PS.T is one of the only true fantasy epics stories I have played that actually felt epic. Combat is god awful though.

Being an A student of literature/film+writing and studying about vg narrative and gameplay and psychology/philosophy in my spare time i feel the need to go more in depth but it's 12:15 and I can't be bothered.

Note I have not played Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, or Civilization 5. Thus the only reason those 3 pieces of shit are not on my bottom 10 worst games ever played list. Had I listed them would take the 10th, 6th, and 7th spots respectively for the shit I already know about them.
How on earth can you say a game is 'shit' if you haven't played it? Have you got some sort of sixth sense that reviews games without having played them?

I find it hard to boil a dozen systems down, but here's an attempt:

Dark Souls, because it's just about the only game I can play on random, infinite loop and still find new things and try out new combos and strats
Demon's Souls, because it's got the scary and the dark Resident Evil and Silent Hill seem to have lost
Skyrim (PC), because it really is worth several trips to the wild side, and the editor randomness is better than LEGO
Uniracers, because it still rocks
Super Mario World, for hours of good fun and being the first thing played on many a Super Nintendo

Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai: Taisen Puzzle-dama (SNES), for its competitive two-player fun
Deus Ex, for its stunning freedom to do things as you please
Psychonauts, for everything; mind blown
Mother/Earthbound (SNES), for being Zelda's indie hipster cousin with an attitude
Wizball (C=64), Martin Galway soundtrack, awesome satellite cat, bouncing fun, best use of limited colour since eyeshadow

Of course, there's plenty more great games out and about, but these are amongst the ones that I consider to be influental and/or timeless enough to put up in a list from the top of my head.
